They were trying to get Stone Cold to do it, but couldn't come to a financial agreement. There was always a bigger feud between Rock and Austin, so the original plan was to have Austin give Rock the Stunner. Since they couldn't get Austin, Undertaker is probably the most giving man to help out, in all of wrestling, so Taker probably did it for free.

I kept it a secret from my eldest son. He watched on replay. I kept it a secret for a couple of weeks actually because we watched the replay when we had time. I kept telling him "something is going to happen that is going to blow your mind." When the gong hit, I'm getting goosebumps talking about it, when the gong hit he went bananas. If only I had the foresight to record it. What a moment.

One thing not a lot of people mention: Dusty let Taker throw him over the top rope AND pin him in his debut. Fast forward to Rumble 2008, Taker took a dropkick and bumped for Cody, there's a very sweet clip on YT where Cody talks about it. Rhodes' and Taker's friendship goes on for decades and spans generations, and that's why it made all the sense in the world why Taker showed up to even the odds for Cody.

Now, being the legend he is and well deservedly so, but he has not wrestled again, so at the risk of sounding like a 'mark', he's retired, but he'll always come back to give us moments...but you right, he LOVES the business waaaaay too much

Hindsight Taker is the better choice. He's feuded with the family longer and by just being Taker it allowed it to be a quicker spot and keep the focus on Cody and Roman. Plus, it allows Austin to be a possibility for the Rock/Roman feud that you know we're going to have, which would still make sense.

Undertaker was my favourite character since I seen him for the first time around '93 through to retirement. I was fortune enough to win a Facebook competition to see WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans. So, the only time I got to see my favourite wrestler live was when he lost the streak 😂😭. Insane, especially listening to these stories now he's retired.

Was in the crowd as a 35 year old father of 3 attending my first WrestleMania. Ive been bummed for a few years that I hadnt made my money in time to ever see Undertaker live at his show. I swear to god I couldnt contain how much water was in my eyes when the gong hit. I didnt even think it was a possibility he'd be there and was looking forward to Austin showing up. But when that gong hit and the lights shut off, it felt 100% perfect for that moment. I was the 10 year old boy again watching Undertaker at San Antonios Freeman Coloseum for the first time. That was an absolutely magical 30 seconds

I was one of those people that noticed him in the suite lol it was so cool cause i had never seen him live before. But not in a 100 years did i ever expect him to be the one to take out Rock. Everyone around us was literally saying that Stone Cold was the one to come out. Honestly, Stone Cold would have been insane. But when we heard that gong hit, we freaking LOST ITTTT.
