I remember hearing about when they first signed him in 1996 and Vince McMahon prematurely signed him originally to a 20 year contract & once he regretted it the WWF/WWE tried so hard for so many years to get him to quit so they didn’t have to pay him for the remaining years left on his contract if they terminated it instead which is why it appears that they were trying to bury Mark Henry all the time because they were pretty much trying to bury him all the time to get him to quit to save money

What I still don’t understand about that incident is why? Why did Vince pull this rib Mark Henry in particular? Why rib a veteran of the business who have long since paid their dues and have put on some of the best performances with the top stars of the company? Why rib him on live tv?All the infamous or hilarious ribs done to wrestlers were done backstage among the boys. What purpose did it serve for the show that night? What goes on in Vince’s head is a total mystery I swear.

Vince wanted Mark to go full heel but Mark didn't want to partially becuse he felt he couldn't control himself when full tilt angry and he felt he didn't have it in him to be angry or pretend to be angry and heel.
