Andy, thank you so much for this free video! It is excellent!! My husband and I took a five day workshop from you and I did a year of your mentorship course. What you give in this video includes all the wonderful lessons you offered in those great courses! You are a great artist and teacher!

Andy Evansen is one of my absolute favorite Watercolor Artist/Instructors. He is consistent and clear about what he's doing. Never presumptuous. And wow, the paintings are fabulous! Making the simple appear so beautiful. It's like he deconstructs a scene and then allows it to fall together. I've never seen another artist handle the medium in this way. Fascinating.

Thank you for the free demo. Beautiful. Amazing! And the process it is a boon. Thanks. Marvelous!

Thank you. Your method of painting is very conceptual in nature. Your paintings are so soothing to look at because they reduce the number of units the brain has to keep track of. Your method of simplification gives your paintings integrity and your method mimics the process our brains perform when forming concepts. Each shape is like a mini abstraction that evokes a flood of concretes in the mind. It is really genius.

I watched the demo the night of the meeting, and it was wonderful, including the sound. I just listened to this recording to hear what the comment about the “throat clearing” was about. I could only hear a few minor muffled instances, and without turning the sound high and putting my ear on the speaker I wouldn’t even have noticed the “problem.” (I do have great hearing btw) The commentor is correct, Andy is a wonderful artist with a lot of information to impart, and it would be a shame not to enjoy watching this demo.

Right, it would be good to have the brand name because different companies use different formulas for those.

-Paint; Tubes of paint, not the dried up cakes in pans. My palette consists of Paynes Gray, French Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Turquoise Light (Holbein), Neutral Tint, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna (Holbein), Quinacridone Gold, Cadmium Lemon, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Opera, Cadmium Red, and Lavender (Holbein) All are Winsor & Newton unless otherwise specified. (*These are suggested colors, you’re welcome to use what you have*) Googled his workshop supply list and this came from that.

What a shame, Andy is a wonderful artist and teacher but I couldn’t watch this because of someone in the recording constantly clearing their throat.

It's a free video. If you'd paid $300 to attend his workshop, would you leave because one of the other students was clearing their throat?

A suggestion: the little screen showing the artist doing the painting is not necessary. What is that adding to the understanding of the process? Eliminating that little screen above the palette frees up space for showing the more important part.

I found it interesting to see how he is looking back and forth at his references and then painting. He's kinda nice to look at too 😉
