Vidalia Mills who bought most of the Draper X3 looms from the closed White Oak factory is currently closed. They laid off people and closed before Thanksgiving 2024 supposedly temporarily, but seems like they need more money invested to be able to reopen...

I'm 48 now and I still feel like I'm a young person. Time passing makes me sad because it will never come back. I see my parents get old (they're 80 now) and it depresses the fuck out of me.

Interesting. I realized I was an adult when I moved to Chicago from D.C. at 21. I had all the money I saved and my car. No job. No good place to live. It hit me hard. That caused a mental shift. I learned how to survive and take care of myself. But in my mind I matured more slowly. I still feel youthful at 58 and am thankful I made it. I have yet to figure out a lot of answers to the eternal questions but I have routines, relationships and responsibilities which keep me on track. Without them I would be lost. Thought provoking video. Thanks Carlito.

As a gen-X, I feel like I will both always and never be both an adult and a child. We were the only generation who was 30 at ten, and still 30 at 60.

I was born in very early '81 (Jimmy Carter). I have heard my generation referred to as both X and Millennial. I never felt like I fit into either, then I heard someone refer to "Xennials" a slim in between generation that grew up in an analog childhood but had a digital adolescence and adulthood. We know how to change the TV channel by a knob and adjusting the rabbit ears, but also feel comfortable with smart TV's.

One of my favorite memes is “I’m at the age where my mind says you can do it and my body says, don’t do it fat boy”. As far as getting older, the worst part is all my toys become way, way more expensive! Case in point for more expensive is the Russell Moccasin boots. That’s on my short list for boots! My only issue with the Unbleached Apparel is I don’t paint that much and I’d be concerned that people would just expect me to paint their living rooms if I wore their stuff around town, lol. Hope you have a great week Carl!

My Connecticut is very warm, great for the car because it’s very short, unzipped. Had Ralph at Weatherwool send me some midweight wool and forwarded it to Tin Duck Denim, made me an unbelievable trucker. Two rights can make it really right. Brave Star has sales with the White Oak. Quick turnaround, custom fit selvedge jeans. 👍

Just a note of appreciation for your channel, C, and a "pitch"; I know how WE feel about Filson, but I recently got something I think is a bit unique; a bomber style ( knit collar/cuffs/lower hem) that is down filled, with a waxed (light) canvas shell... fantastic! A bit pricey (450$), but not really for what it is. Huckberry has them, and currently reduced last week, or of course the home site. Most durable down jacket I've handled

I guess things were different back in my day. I felt like an adult after getting drafted in the Army. Went to school on the G.I. Bill, all the other students who were a few years younger than me seemed much younger than that. I’ve always worn lots of wool in the winter. I like it better than any synthetic material.

I think people mistake what maturity is. I'm in my 40's and still young at heart but experience has taught me lots of lessons, lots of them the hard way. I think a big part of becoming mature besides having people depending on you, is just rolling with the punches and picking your battles. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference"

If I intended to be in places that cold I'd buy a B-3 but I don't. We get single digits and always windy here and the best I've found is a hooded wool pullover under my discontinued LC King fleece lined hooded windbreaker. I have some flannel lined jeans from Texas Jeans and Diamond Gusset and they aren' warm enough for those conditions. I need to find better pants for that weather.

I swear we need to start teaching how to dress warmly in elementary school in New England like they do in Scandinavian countries, it really amazes me how much antipathy there is towards winter in (southern) New England when cold weather is a pretty solvable problem, why live your life hating 4 months of the year? Embracing the cold weather by preparing for it properly totally changed my perspective on winter, I love walking on the beaches here in winter now.

Sold all my heavy wool coats (Filson and Woolrich), double Mackinaws, Hunt Coat, etc. They were beautiful coats, but the way the wind blows through them was a no-go for me. Also, heavy for the warmth. If it's really cold (low teens, to below zero), it's my faithful Carhartt over Carhartt insulated bibs. If I 'm not moving, It's a vintage N-3B parka over the same bibs. FWIW, I picked up a TAD Deck Jacket. Nowhere near as warm as I would like. Beautiful coat, just not for single digits. I imagine any B3-style jacket/coat would be warm.

@@CoffeeWithCarl1 No, sir. I'll have to check it out. Don't know how I missed it. Maybe I did see it but my size was out of stock. They had a huge sale recently. I picked up their Deck Jacket for well under $300. Got the blue version. Looks like black and blue depending on the light. Been in the teens and single digits, so I had a good chance to try it out to see how warm it was. Like I said, it is still a very nice jacket.

Hey Carl, my wife and I talk about never feeling grown up all the time. The odd thing is that none of our long term friends (i.e. those we have known for over three decades) feel like they ever “changed” to adults either. Maybe that’s why they are our very good friends?? One thing I have also noticed is that when I have mentored folks in the past, they refer and act differently with me, and honestly, I don’t like it as much as before. No answers here from me on this… just feel the same way. Have a great week… next thing you know, your kids will be “adults” and maybe we will feel grown up then. I hope not.

Agreed! Part of me wants to always feel a sense of youth and wonder, no matter how old the shell is. I do think that like-minded folks tend to seek each other out, and you're lucky to have found some friends like this.
