@@brooksroccoI think he’s snuck in a cut there, but his playing is still fantastic. I don’t know how you could fake such complexity in playing guitar. Alright, time to finally drop a comment after watching this video easily a few hundred times. Even die hard Metallica fans probably don't realize this is arguably James' best rhythm work ever. This song is insanely complicated, which is probably why they never played it live (or not until later and only by request). My sleeper hit from And Justice for sure. This is one of the best covers of all time: it is flawless and that's saying something because of the complexity.

4:04 is sick! I used to listen to this album all the time when it first came out. My brother burned a copy of it on a cassette for me to play in my Sony Walkman. He had it on CD, which was cutting edge at the time. We used to listen to it while cruising with all our friends as well. We had all the previous 3 albums prior to that, so it was a very memorable thing when we put Justice in the tape deck in his car for the first time after school one day. That intro for Blackened and then the intensity of the first rhythm was electric. That was the last album that had that effect on us.

Think that justice is one of the most well-written metal albums ever. Even though Cliff was gone at this point, his influence can still be heard. It's just such a shame that the mix is so Goddamn awful - no bass, midrange out the ass, and drums that sound like a metronome. Also, I read that they doubled James' voice on every track which makes it a bit more harsh. But the composition, lyrics and theme of spiritual isolation really makes this a metal masterpiece. All of this is my humble opinion, of course.
@cwmmetal6 жыл бұрын
It's my favourite album of all time. I absolutely love the mix and I may be in the minority. I love how harsh it is, sterile almost. It really suits the vibe of the whole album. I usually crank up the low end every time I listen to it, not to try and salvage the lack of bass, but theres actually a whole lot of information down there that really shines when you crank a couple of DB, especially in Lars's drum track. I think the remastered 'bass' versions are great, but I am 100% into what the guys were trying to do with the mix, with the lack of bass, for obvious reasons involving Cliff. This is Metallica at their angriest, most vulnerable, most progressive and the tightest they will ever be, and I wouldn't change anything on the album at all.
@chernebog076 жыл бұрын
@@cwmmetal You know, I never looked at that way before. You make some damn good points! I love the album, too. I had everything else that preceded this, but I only started listening in '88. So this was the first "new" album I bought. It holds a special place in my memory and heart as it helped me through some crappy times. I knew someone else out there felt the way I did and made music the way I wanted it to sound. I agree that this is their tightest album. It's so damn precise!
