If you listen to these covers you begin to realize how much of a bass master Jason really was. Outstanding work.
@ernieball75672 жыл бұрын
Not sure what this cover has to do with Jason Newsted ? This is this guy’s interpretation and cover of Metallica. This guy’s skill by far exceeds Newsted. Part of the reason newsteds bass was turned down AJFA was because it clashed with the guitars.
@georgedomse2 жыл бұрын
@@ernieball7567 I absolutely do not agree with the last part of your comment, and based what James and Lars say this is not true either. There are remixed versions of AJFA here on YT, and Jasons parts were almost identical to what is being played here.

@@georgedomse Dude, Jason played with a pick, this guy plays with fingers, how are they comparable?
@georgedomse Жыл бұрын
@@nicolausteslaus how does that matter in terms of bass lines created? I don't care what technique a player uses as long as it fits the music. But musicality is a different beast. Jason's bass parts are great.

This is by far ONE of my most favorite Metallica songs! At the risk of sounding redundant, you truly did it JUSTICE! I listened to the full album cover before listening to individual songs and I must say that your mixes are superb! It seems like you tried to stay faithful to Newstead's bass line while giving it a Burton flare [flair?]. Obviously your own interpretation went into the playing, but overall you nailed it and I wish I had a copy that I could jam to in my car. Truly words CANNOT express your genius. I have heard many bass covers for this album, but yours is the most impressive above them all.

Much RESPECT! 👊

4:04 that is some incredible dexterity and strength shown. Any advice on how I would even begin to tackle this song?!
@muriloninja5 жыл бұрын
There are no secrets to it, practice, practice, and practice some more. Having played for what, 26yrs or so now Metallica songs are rather rudimentary to play, they aren't hard by any stretch of the imagination HOWEVER endurance is the key and that takes a lot of playing to build up. I admittedly would have to put some time in to make it through Frayed for instance. That breakdown before the solo would be the main part for me to work on, talk about a bitch to nail down (with a pick, easy but I don't like to use one)! Yep! I'm a bigger fan of Cliff's stuff because he actually played bass, doubled when necessary but otherwise played bass. Doubling the guitars all the time for me is boring and uninspiring and I am a huge Metallica fan, Cliff is why I started playing actually.
@Metal_Horror Жыл бұрын
@murilo if you ask me, Jason mirrored James' playing *when it made sense.* Sometimes it's better for the song to just give the guitar riff some more low end. And Jason sure as hell didn't just play the same thing James was playing the whole time. This song for example, only like half of it or less is "doubling" James. Listen to the chorus. The bass is adding a huge layer of melody and groove to that chorus. And yes, sometimes it's just metal as fuck to play the same thing as the guitars. Case in point: 4:04, the part the guy asked about. As fast as James is playing, Jason is right there with him. If you get it, you get it. 🤘😤
