It's not an algae, it's a bacteria

A 50 hour blackout did wonders with vacum and 40-50 percent water change

Cool! Worked very fast. I usually have to do if for at least 4 days.

Wow, I saw this very late. I had a very nasty problem with cyanobacteria becuase I used for too long an algicide (API ALGAEFIX). It got so bad that it killed a lot of the bucephalandra I had in that tank. My theory is that because I was killing all of the algae, the cyanobacteria took over and almost ruined my tank. Now I know that it's better to have some algae than to deal with cyanobacteria.

I don't have this but I have got BBA which is really annoying at times, I am thinking of doing a full re-scape soon.... thanks for sharing this its very helpful :)
@AquascapingCube2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy. Yes BBA can be very annoying :/ I'm actually planning to create a video about it, I just want to be prepared for it and get some good material. And re-scape? Always fun! :D If you decide to go for it - let me know about the results ;)

@@AquascapingCubeI will do matt, I'm really just trying to wait and see if things get better or not but on the bright side my 9 goldfish in the pond outside are doing great ;) This was another thing we set up this spring :)

I have it in a 100 liter tank set up as a river strea with a huge reef tank powerhead so it seems that poor circulation is not a key factor. I will use the blackout method for 5 days and maybe I will also add some potassium nitrate trying to rebalance N and P

Does it work with diatom too9?

So wont plants die if I do a complete blackout for 5 days?
@AquascapingCube5 ай бұрын
No, they should be totally fine, plants can live without light much longer than algae.

What’s the problem with Cyanobacteria? They are in the substrate, it doesn’t do anything as far as I know
@AquascapingCube6 ай бұрын
It can take over entire tank. It covers plants and can eventually kill them because they cannot photosynthesize. Besides it can unbalance everything because it uses a lot of oxygen. And it smells :P
@uchihasasuke945 Жыл бұрын
do you still feed during the blackout?
@AquascapingCube Жыл бұрын
No, never. Fish will be perfectly fine without it.
@sure.bol.99911 ай бұрын
hi! do i have to turn off the co2 during blackout? coz i understand plants dont need co2 when there is no light?
@AquascapingCube11 ай бұрын
Yes, definitely. Plants don't need it and CO2 could kill your fish during longer blackout.

So all i have to do is cover my aquarium with blankets for 5 days and let 0 sunlight or brightness in and dont feed or allow co2 and then it should be gone?
@AquascapingCube11 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly. You just need to be sure that there is ZERO light comming in. So be precise about covering your tank. And make sure that this blanket doesn't let any light through. Just cover it, and don't touch anything :)
@ploobmann89411 ай бұрын
Thanks for your reply! Absolutley, there is no light of any kind making its way into the aquarium its pitch black, i hope that it fixes my issue. Also side note, am i allowed to peak inside for 5 seconds at a time and close it right back up?@@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube11 ай бұрын
@@ploobmann894 I wouldn't. You really need to 'starve' the algae from any light. But if you really have to - do it in the evening.

kk I wont look at all then. Thankyou again@@AquascapingCube
@ploobmann89411 ай бұрын
It worked perfectly! everything was gone. however, a couple days later i noticed it again lol. Is there a way of making sure it never comes back alive? or should i just keep doing blackouts every so often, im not sure what is the best plan of action@@AquascapingCube

5 days? I always 3 days. Maybe that's why there's some always left for me
@AquascapingCube2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, 5 to 7 days is really not a problem. 3 days will not be enough in most cases.
