They're apparently not just an expy - the ending of Z3 implies Asakim dies, only to be reborn as Masaki. ...Or rather, Shurouga becomes Masaki, considering Asakim is simply a hologram Shurouga created based on its deceased pilot.

@juliox9 althoug Cosmoa Nova was at its best in Divine Wars, at least the fights were better staged, simingly the ova would have needed that person as well (well the animations of DW were somehow acceptable in the end)

Ok, why the games had amazing animation and the ovas have...this... . Seriously I'm not agree with this animation is lazy as hell. In the 90's this will be unaceptable.
