Discounting this was your FIRST experience installing and setting up the tent - all went well. Leaving the tent IN the truck and losing little space for hauling non construction "stuff" is a GREAT feature. Thanks for doing this. Now I Know...

How? It took 2 minutes to unfold and inflate plus 2 minutes to pack up? It's always in the truck, ready to go with just a pump.. you also get the auto leveling of the truck, multiple active outlets, lighting, lots of weather proof storage underneath you have access to without getting wet, built in sleeping pad, you're off the ground, no need to worry about bears and other animals, no need to worry about flooding. So if you use your own regular tent.. you're on the ground, you often won't be level unless you're at a curated camp ground, you need a sleeping pad, you need a power bank, lighting, you do have to worry about food storage and animals, you do have to worry about flooding, your tent will get dirty, muddy etc, you will only have vestibule room for weather proof storage. For $3000, you can easily attain most of the same feature set but the cybertent does afford you ease, convenience, safety, and functionality you simply cannot get with a standard tent. And if we can afford a $100-130k truck, we can probably afford the cybertent.

When I ordered mine, Tesla installed it and they installed a different clip on the aeroflap that makes it much easier to remove at the camp site. I couldn't even order the tent delivered to my house, they had it shipped to the service center and I had to set up an appointment for them to install it.

Definitely wasn't designed by the same team who designed the actual functional truck! Otherwise it would be a much, much easier install. Too crazy that they didn't include an electric pump, but I guess 1 PSI, they didn't want you to pop it; but then, they could have just included an automatic stopper when the pump hit 1 PSI... Thanks for sharing this experience with us!

Is there a way to use the aircon of the cybertruck in the tent? Retaining pin would be the obvious solution to threaded holes. Just put that retaining ring through the end of the pin on the other side. You can still do that with a drill to make the hole smooth for a small retaining pin. May need an alternative solution if you get the towing battery.

Bring your Starlink when camping. Also, there may be some way of fastening and in fastening that cover with a spring loaded pull ring instead of screwing all the time. @@MikesTropicalTech The suspension needs lets say 10 liters. A singl etire alone needs up to 200 liter. It is always a compromise between building larger internal devices like compressors or inverters or letting the customer do it himself. Of course it would be better if the CT had a 1000l air generator inside. But: How many would need and use it? I know i would not. Tesla can not build individually. They can put in the maximum amount of gadgets everybody MAY need. Like a 9 kW outlet which can drive even the largest single pase compressors you can buy.

This doesn't need a lot of air to inflate at all, so I guess they decided it's not worth adding cost for an electric pump
@katmandomo
@katmandomo 3 ай бұрын
This looks very much like a first generation product. There is a lot of engineering space left to reduce cost, complexity, and difficulty of use. Plus, the tent ended up being pretty small. I guess it isn't so bad because you'll be storing your stuff under the tend instead of inside, but it's going to be cozy for even just two people in there. Three is right out. The big idea with the tent was supposed to be that it was low effort. This does not meet that design goal. A standalone inflatable tent will be up in half of the time because you're not futzing around with taking bits off of the truck to set it up.
@Pehz63
@Pehz63 3 ай бұрын
Just unfold it, hook 2 things, then pump it up. What's so high effort about that? The only way you could make it any easier is have an electronic air pump. Otherwise, it's way easier than a typical tent where you have to figure out how the tent unfolds, unfold each of the rods, loop them through the tent, and hammer in the stakes. Any inflatable tent is also harder than this, because you still have to hammer in the stakes or otherwise tie it down. Because the Cybertent is already tied to the truck, it saves that effort.

Interesting to see how it is assembled. If you can afford to buy a Sybertruck, you can also afford this tent. A normal tent requires a suitable surface. With this tent, you can camp anywhere, and never have to worry about water getting inside. It's a nightmare every time it happens.
@BlazerRox
@BlazerRox 3 ай бұрын
It's a hand pump because: 1. It only needs to pump to 8 PSI 2. If you are on a public campground, nobody wants to hear a noisy air compressor. (Yes I know technically the suspension leveling is using an air compressor, but that's an internal one that is quieter, and yes the CyberTruck could/should have come with a compressed air outlet)

In another video, a couple with a Cybertent replace the two screws for the aero cover with hand turnable screws. I wonder if those could be tethered somehow, so one can't drop them. I'm an industrial designer and professor, and I would grade poorly the installation. The process assumptions are not robust enough. Imagine you trying to set up this tent at night or being set up by a person who isn't tool savvy. What happens if your camping stuff is in the way of the installation? You should install it at home before leaving to the camping trip. Seems a rushed, not well integrated solution. Once installed, it looks spacious and very practical. Threads on aluminum is a very bad idea. They should use a threaded steel insert for reliability.

Definitely doesn’t look like a $3k experience to me 🧐

the design seems ok but the price to easy of use seems far off to me.

I bet that the person who designed this tent never gone camping in their entire life. That person now should be forced to go camping with this tent for couple of months

Terrible and too expensive. Thanks for doing this, I’ll be waiting for a 3p copy 😏

Too fiddly. Might as well toss a real tent in the back and slide it in & out.

Maybe a $400-$500 tent but not for 3K!. Model Y camping has the advantage of climate control but is that really camping? and I can't take my Model Y or pull a trailer to a lot of the places I want to camp whereas a self contained Cybertruck has a lot of potential. Guess we'll see what 3rd party vendors have to offer.
