I first encountered Virtual On as a free one-stage demo from a magazine for my Sega Saturn. Although I got the full game shortly after, I'd played the demo so much by that point that this is without a doubt the first tune that comes to mind when I play the game.

In a show, the first arc could be that story line, and the second arc could be Oratorio Tangram (where the events actually happen). There's a lot of 'in the manual' here for back story, I'll admit, but it's there and I've always felt it would make a decent story ever since I read it. And with it being a game in the present day, it makes sense for the main characters to be young, so it can hit the kids market, and could allow for a great tie in game.

Actually...it would be quite easy to animate, especially if they stick with the core storyline of Virtual-On Cyber Troopers and stay away from the follow ups. The original game was basically 'The Last Starfighter' with mechs and the main character being you, seriously. The story goes that the arcade machines were sent to the past to train a super warrior to remotely pilot these mechs in virtual simulations. The best would be pulled to the future to fight the real thing.

That would mean coming up with characters and a "story" or purpose for the human pilots to fight. Rather than using pre-existing ideas and plots to just "tell the story". thats why it is a bit harder to adapt into a show, it requires more thinking then just animating some other novel or game with a detailed story. VO just had too little dramatic stories.

Virtual On would be so hard to animate... since there are almost no characters, and a detailed story will be very hard to do. Marz was barely successful in it's story telling.
