My computer is something I can't afford to lose. We all have so much irreplaceable data in them. Once my setup is complete I'm gonna invest in one too. Power outages are very common in California and being able to properly shut down all the main stuff after a power outage is great. Education 101 via Tomas, great work man.

I purchased 4 of these from Costco for $99.99 each. I like them a lot better than the APC's I've owned over the years.

...and Costco is still selling this same UPS in the same box for the same price 3 years later. Just picked one up to replace an old APC.

I cannot figure out how to keep the display in “Always on” mode. I wish I would have gotten the other model with the 3 individual switches. It is more straightforward and easier to do. I don’t like these “one button does 100 different functions if you click thought the confusing menus correctly.” But this was an excellent investment and you got your at a good price.

There's a recycling depot right at the end of my street and i pick up discarded tech on the weekly(CRT TV's, Stereos, Computer Monitors, etc.) to fix up and sell for a quick buck and i recently picked up 2 of these UPS's. Plugged them in as soon as i got home and to my surprise they both powered up without issue. After some quick tests i figured the batteries inside were dead so i replaced the batteries on both of them and voila! Two almost new UPS's. Decided to keep these for myself and the wife since brand new ones would've run me around $125 each. People throw out stuff without even trying to see what the issue is.
@DanielTheCooliest2 жыл бұрын
The batteries will go bad after 3 years of use or so apparently, but most people don't know how to replace the battery I believe. Your skills definitely make the most out of what is there.

I’m assuming this would also be useful in a storm. Say we get a hurricane and power goes off. No where to charge your phone in your town and you have no generate. You could use this to charge devices in emergency?

Is it normal for these units to produce a running noise? Mine is brand new and makes a slight hum/buzz noise when it is plugged into the wall and my pc and monitor. It isn't loud but I wanted to see if it was standard in UPS to make a running noise.
@chris4869 Жыл бұрын
Your UPS should not make any noises unless it's running off battery. The fan will kick in when it's on battery power but it should be off under normal power.

Tomas, "Wiring Fault" refers to the power that the UPS is plugged into. Not the devices that are plugged into the UPS. Most often, the "Wiring Fault" indicator will catch a missing Ground on the AC outlet that the UPS is plugged into. As, DIY'ers (non-electricians) will often install a three-prong AC outlet, without actually grounding that third prong.

@TomasVillegas7 жыл бұрын

@BluntForceTrauma6667 жыл бұрын
Yeah? Me too. But I think I should clarify. I've had a CP1500 LCD something or other running for YEARS and it has pretty much run so well that I have barely even thought about it. **HOWEVER,** just a few weeks ago the power went out for a brief moment and when it came back on, apparently it's batteries were done, but I had not been given ANY kind of prior warning. No beeping, no alarm, no indicators OF ANY KIND on that nice, big, backlit LCD. Still, no biggie, it just needs two new batteries. Correct? Well, I've owned _numerous_ APC UPS's and since those idiots can't seem to implement a decent battery charging algorithm, and/or don't understand the concept of a "float charge" those units absolutely COOK their batteries in record time. Every single one of them. EXCEPT, when their batteries failed, the rest of the unit continued to function minimally at least as just a surge protector. An "outlet-strip" with an intensely annoying, screamingly long alarm beep. No harm no foul, I suppose. So, I was super happy that my CP1500 ran "flawlessly" for so long. Or so I thought. I wasn't present when the power recently went out, but when I did get home, I soon noticed a continuous "click-click-click..." noise. I eventually tracked down the source of the sound. Yep, it was my CP1500 clicking, with it's blank LCD AND ALL THE ATTACHED DEVICES with all their bright green LED's _endlessly_ turning ON-off-ON-off-ON-off, remaining in each state for just about one second. The attached devices were a dual-WAN router, a 2.4/5.0Ghz wireless access point, a Western Digital 4TB NAS "My Cloud" device and a nice desktop PC. To make a short story endless, that incessant ON-off-ON-off-ON-off bullshit had apparently been going on for HOURS and HOURS before I got home and I ultimately found that my "beloved CyberPower 1500" had bricked my router, trashed all the disks in my WDEX4, and destroyed the Seagate hard drive in my PC. Think about it: In one single hour, those devices were briefly powered on and then off, 1800 times. If my neighbor's memory serves hiim correctly, this went on for SIX fucking HOURS before I got home. *SO:* Not only did this PIECE OF SHIT trash my main hard drive but it also took out my fucking drive BACKUPS as well. I lost a SHITLOAD of irreplaceable data/projects/pictures/documents/e-mails (shall I go on?), EVEN THOUGH I made every attempt to do things "the right way": Power all critical devices using a surge-protector/UPS and make frequent backups. I've NEVER seen such amateurish engineering and/or lack of proper field-testing IN MY LIFE. Presumably all because of the SHITTY (so-called) engineering done in India and Chinese manufacturing. Oh, and the giant, rotting cherry on top, covered in green mold? I was DENIED any of that $300,000 warranty BULLSHIT because this was "not a surge related incident." **YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED** Yes, I'm SERIOUSLY fucking *PISSED OFF* about all of this...
@mortalstorm7 жыл бұрын
Yep, the retarded charging circuits in many of these units are practically useless, and in particular, as you mentioned, the APC's. I've taken to using a separate trickle charging unit to keep the batteries fresh. Yeah, it's a bit more of a chore, but the tradeoff is a longer lasting battery you need not have to worry about for a an extended period of time. The old Belkins probably had the best internal charging circuitry for home UPS's. I have an old F6C650 that's still running like a champ after 10 years of use. I just swap out the battery every six months or so, to desulfate it. BTW, those "warranties" put out by the UPS industry is as useless as the charging circuits in their units. I don't know of anyone who has been successful in actually collecting on it. If you ever took the time to read the fine print covered in these warranties, you'll find a maze of hoops you need to jump through to even stand a chance of being successful.
