@@off7hewall it took me 5 hours of deep research to get to the conclusion that a modern computer PSU needs pure sine wave, otherwise with a non pure wave both PSU and UPS will slowly get damaged over time, depends on how often the power goes out. A decent pure sine wave UPS for a high end gaming rig + monitor (~1000 watts) will cost around 600$, compared to a average 200$ UPS without pure sine wave but same wattage

@@LinkinPark4Ever1996 I'm in the same boat. My APC 1500BR UPS of nearly 12 years finally gave up the ghost. It lasted for three builds and now I'm looking for a new one and running into the Pure Sine Wave vs Simulated/Stepped Sine Wave debate. There is a big price difference between the two styles no matter which brand. I've narrowed it down to the APC BR1500MS and the Cyberpower CP1500PFCLCD. They are both very similar in price to each other I just wish they weren't $100 more than their non pure sine wave counterparts.

Linus, mains AC power at 120V does NOT mean that the peak to peak voltage is 120V. What that number is is the RMS voltage. The peak voltage is that multiplied by sqrt(2), or about 170V. With 240V mains the peak is about 340V. This gives a peak-to-peak voltage of 680 volts.

I love my UPS. I've been waiting for the power to cut long enough for my PC to initiate a safe shutdown sequence, but it hasn't happened yet -- the power always restores within a minute or two and my UPS battery lasts about 12 minutes, and I've told it to safely shut down with 5 minutes of juice left. P.S. It's uber satisfying to see the lights flicker but your PC, monitor, speakers, modem, and router stay on. Sometimes I don't even notice until I see my microwave clock flashing.

Makoto Alexander i work as a technician in a ups service center and i can assure you that tripp lite and cyberpower are really cheaply made compared to apc upss. sure apc upss are more expensive but they are a thousand times more reliable than theses other brands. Eaton also make some good ups.

kiskiller3 Thanks for the reply. I have already purchased a CyberPower model and am quite satisfied with it once I tested it myself. However, don't you think your "assurance" is more of the same as I stated in the last sentence of my first post? You cannot assure someone, who don't know you from Adam, without verifiable evidence.

I picked up a CP1500PFCLCD (higher capacity/beefier version of this) about 1 year ago and I notice that I get a lot of "dips" and brown-outs. At least once a month the UPS beeps to let me know. It also saved my system from a HUGE surge at a LAN party that was due to amateur power distribution on the down-leads. Fried two other PSU's in the same row as me, yet I was fine.

Oh and also Li-Poly hybrids, despite not being suitable for cars (LiFePO4's are suitable to automotive usage so my previous comment still applies), they have most amazing power-to-weight ratio. I have a 1.5 kg 30*5*5cm Li-Po hybrid battery lying on my desk, and being that light (and small) it is 37V 5Ah (lead-acid of same Wh capacity would be 5 kg or so), it's capable of 325A discharge, which at 30V (let's count in the voltage sag..) is 10 kW. Find me a 1.5kg lead-acid that does that, I beg you!

Seems like UPS' have barely advanced in the past 10 years. Linus, you should do a deep-dive into UPS'. The market is an absolute cluster, and reviews across the board for seemingly every option out there are uninspiring at best, scathing at worse. Would be great to get some direction on what's good, what's bad, and what differentiates the products on the market.

I live in Florida - Lightning & Brown-Out capital is the USA. It sure isn't anything but "1st World". If you really hate you PC, TV, etc Expensive electronics then don't have an UPS! In the past year my APC recorded 53 events in (1) one year: Brown-outs + Outages. ALL of my LCD/LED TV's, PC's and Printers are on UPS. I've looked in to a whole house UPS. but it's big bucks! Don't forget your Cable & NIC from surges/lightening.

so is this model "Pure sine Wave" or not? box does not describe it. this models cost around $135 vs APC $500-$1,000 pure sine wave UPS. why?
@briansnj
@briansnj 9 жыл бұрын
This product line is pure sine wave. The datasheets, etc. on the website can be downloaded and read and even their customer service reps can confirm that. I have been using Cyber Power for years and they have proven to be MORE reliable than APC or Tripp Lite. I have nothing against APC or Tripp Lite. I love their products BUT APC has been insanely expensive for years now! TRANSLATION - OVER-PRICED because they have the name brand everyone knows about. Even for just an UPS model that can protect a basic gaming rig with AFC power supply or a SOHO desktop with AFC. AFC power supplies are completely common now. APC wants suckers to pay double or triple but the truth is they are over-selling also. They are attempting to get average users to buy their server grade type UPSes. Even Tripp Lite has a lower price point than APC. I have installed at least 100 or more different Cyber Power UPS units, whether desktop or rack models, in residential and commercial client sites and they have all performed as advertised/expected. I even went so far to try an experiment. A client with 75 PCs and a rack full of goodies like servers, NAS, routers, gateways, and managed switches - plain and PoE, allowed me to install equal but different product lines. So, I installed in the rack APC, Tripp Lite and Cyber Power units. All performed the same. You could not tell the difference that way. However, after 2 years the APC unit batteries were definitely degrading. Tripp and Cyber were still going strong. In the end, with all things being equal, I typically shop/price Cyber Power first then Tripp Lite. I don't even bother with APC any more unless for some oddball compatibility reason I have to.

I fail to see what part of this isn't entirely true? He was still either provided the samples or bought them from NCIX at a discount. Your point was that this is his job and he does this for NCIX, which it isn't his job and he doesn't do this for NCIX. He doesn't make any money from this channel, NCIX doesn't pay him for things posted on this channel. So this isn't his job, and he doesn't do this for NCIX. So your point is wrong.

I have been using that exact model UPS for about one year now. I choose that specific version because of the pure sine wave output. It was the only UPS that I could find with that feature. I'm definitely glad I bought it and it's worked well to keep me going during power surges or outages. Here's a tip: in addition to your PC, plug in your modem to the battery backup outlets and you can even remain connected to the internet when your power is out. (for about 15 minutes until the charge runs out)

@Comeyd wrong. LiFePO4's are capable of 30C continuous discharge (30 amps for every amp-hour of capacity), which is 3 times more than lead-acid (10C). They also have way longer cycle life (1000 cycles at 100% DOD, vs 100 cycles at 100% DOD of lead-acid), higher energy density (220 Wh/L vs 75 Wh/L for lead-acid), and higher specific energy (100 Wh/kg vs 35 Wh/kg for lead-acid), and higher specific power (300 W/kg vs 180 W/kg for lead-acid).They also don't suffer from low temperatures,like Pb's do

120 V is RMS , actual peak to peak is larger. The 120 V is an average of the difference to ground. The waveform itself is actually around. 1.414 times 120V so we have in reality +170 then going to -170 60 times a second. This how it is possible to end up with 240 by having 2 sources out of phase with each other you capture the full difference between the +170 and -170 without running a higher voltage line.
@GeorgeTsiros

The things that he unboxes on this channel he either receives free samples from the manufacturer or he buys himself with money generated by the channel I'm sure he gets an discount from NCIX from working there. He even has discussed this, asking if he should add those video adverts to the videos to generate more money to buy more things to unbox/test on this channel. So before you call someone else retarded, make sure you aren't wrong.

Nope, I think the 600W rating on the UPS is the power it can output from the batteries, so in a way yes if you're actually drawing 1200W when the power goes out (unlikely) the UPS wouldn't be able to power your PC.
