It's CDPR, they kind of didn't have a choice. But it's still technically worse off. It lost its massive MP spinoff, the rumored 2/3 xpacs, and probably tons of content that got thrown out because of the focus on actually finishing the game. I can't wait for the big 2.0 patch but none of it is going to change the game's most glaring issues like how lifeless and wasty the open world is, especially compared to games like GTA which has its problem but man has a shitton going on around every corner which is why people keep coming back to it 10 years later. Hopefully they learn from this mess...

Maybe, if possibly maybe - they could push 1 last dlc for this before doing a 2 might make the whole experience for the returning players really great again. Don't be fooled. Cyberpunk was ALWAYS good... for people with a decent PC. The VAST majority of the crappy bugs you saw was from people playing on last gen consoles. A decent PC with a decent graphics card ran Cyberpunk 2077 just fine at launch. Were there bugs? Sure there were, but no more than most other AAA release in the last 10 years. People claiming otherwise are ignorant or simply lying. Of course, its possible to simply not like the game itself but that's personal taste and a completely different story. All that said, I'm really looking forward to this new expac! It looks amazing!

The story was the only good part about the game, and by that I mean the core story. All the side quests and most of the companion quests were pretty boring or outright terrible, and few had any consequences. The 2.0 patch should make it player it actually bearable though, and supposedly it gives the game an ending that won't piss people off by insuiting your V dies anyway post credits. Solid high 80s games I guess but man I'm glad people didn't give it game of the year as a freebie because it in no shape or form deserved it. Hard to believe this is the same studio that made Witcher 3.
@mraso30

@@CrystallineLore Yeah I am thinking I will mainline the story this time around. Last time I did a lot of the side quests and I didn't like many of them. Got about 15 hours in and gave up on it, but I did like a lot of what the main quest had going on (only complaint is they should have had like 5 quests during the introduction, instead of that lame montage with Jackie, would have been so much better to have the intro that they showed off as just a quick cutscene). Almost feels like there should really be another DLC made, which is more like a prequel, and fills in that gap of time.

I'm definitely ready to finally give Cyberpunk a fair shake. I put in about 15 hours over the past couple of years, usually a few hours after each patch to see how it is doing. Back in June of this year it finally felt like a game I could really enjoy playing, but then I realized Phantom Liberty and Patch 2.0 were due out in a few months and decided I'd hold off until the game is truly completed. Thinking I will update to 2.0, restart my main story with female V as her voice actor is a lot better everyone says, replay up to the point I am at currently at least, and then if I am truly feeling great about the game (which I do think I will) I will buy Phantom Liberty. The only issue is that I am enjoying Starfield so much, I don't really want to put Starfield down or on hold... So I am sure I will DL 2.0 tomorrow and start a new game, but it may still be another month or two before I fully jump in again. Soooo many great games coming up to play. Spiderman 2, Alan Wake 2, STALKER 2, Avatar is looking good, Phantom Liberty / Cyberpunk, AC: Mirage is looking pretty good too. May be missing one or two that I am looking forward to as well that release in the next 6 months or so.

I'm in a similar boat. I've been slowly playing Starfield, and enjoying it more bit by bit, each time I play, but then Lies Of P came out yesterday, and I've been looking forward to that game for so long, so I immediately jumped into that and I'm loving it. Still wanna remember to keep putting time into Starfield, though, as well as checking out CP2077 for the 2.0 patch, and a few other games you mentioned, like Avatar, Assassin's Creed, and Stalker 2. Lots of stuff to look forward to, just gotta figure out where to put the time into which game.

Previews of stalker 2 are extremely negative so far. Like its miles from being complete. I would temper my expectations. Btw, 2077 is amazing. I find it better than starfield in the most important ways. But both are awesome in their own way. I love such rich-men's-troubles of having too many new games at once :D Not a dull moment.

Are the 100+ new items (weapons, cyberware, cars, and fashion) of the DLC only be obtainable in Dogtown, or are they also available in the main game when PL drops and it‘s worth waiting for the DLC before starting a new game?

Do we have an estimated time to beat for the new content alone? I understand this is more a Hearts of Stone than a Blood & Wine in terms of hours of content, but curious if it's worth me grabbing now from the get go vs waiting when I do a full replay.

I dropped the game near launch due to bugs and poor performance, tried again a few months later and they nurfed my build into the ground (stealth hacking, when they made the damaging hacks tell everyone were you were) so I dropped it again. Hesitantly excited for 2.0 and will be giving it one last chance, hope its the game we all expected way back when.

I finished Cyberpunk 2077 recently on the PS5 and I found the experience to be enjoyable for the most. It was a good game, but not necessarily a great one. I spent 40 hours playing the game and I got to level 25. Even with the update, I still came across some bugs and glitches. At the end of the day, it was still a fun game and it definitely had some wonderful moments. I'll probably check out the Phantom Liberty DLC and I'll go back the main game as well. Plus, there are a lot of side missions that I still haven't completed yet. Thanks, Karak! As always, I appreciate the honest, unbiased, and detailed review! God bless and stay safe!

Keanu is one of my favorite actors and now Idris, another one of my favorites, I watch him anytime his name pops up in a movie. I will try the update first, it sounds like a lot of fun (truly unfortunate that the cops don't go into Dogtown, that is kinda the whole point; cops in the worst parts) but I for one could never get into the game. I have a good rig, AMD Ryzen 7, RTX 3060 on a 1080p. Will be up grading to a 8k next month but something just is off with the game to me. Maybe the update will help.

Despite it's many flaws I really enjoyed the game at launch. It only got better as they patched it, even to the point I'd call it "good", you know? The lack of world immersion was a big sore spot, but as an ARPG I think it's a pretty fun game. I'll be waiting some mods (QoL, UI/HUD and some cosmetic ones mainly) to be hopefully updated before I get into this, then I'll be doing a full fresh playthrough. I'm kind of interested in comparing it now to what I remember of my initial Dec 2020 time.

@@flouserschirdSaints Row 2 did it way better in 2008. If a game of the scale of CP2077 can't hit that benchmark over a decade later there's a problem. Rockstar definitely sets the gold standard for what other games should be aspiring for, though, even if they don't manage to get there. I think the problem with CP2077 at launch is that it was like they didn't even try. Crowds had zero reactivity and were basically lifeless. It was very distracting.
@iDEATH

@@bcorey3660 They did improve it in the patches along the way. Crows scatter, some (foolish) citizen might even draw on you, drivers panic...it's still not exactly "alive", but they did make it feel a lot less lifeless. It's certainly less like just a very pretty stage set the game takes place on, let me say that. I'm hoping the improved police system will help, as well as the random car chases.

I just can't wait to see the next Cyberpunk game they announced. They finally know how to make meaningful new gigs with strong, heart shredding decision branching, can't wait to see their new skills in action without being impeeded by older designs. I think comparing the original Gigs with the new ones is basically a study on why "show don't tell" works so much better to create an emotional response. There were plenty of good ideas in the diverse story logs in the original Gigs but they were all in text version in computers and shards instead of played live.

I think you are right that the expansion probably doesn’t change the core lack of immersion. I am concerned that we are all back on the unrealistic hype train again; I’m seeing many people claim that this update will “give us the game that was promised”. No, it won’t. Not by a long shot. It’s still Cyberpunk 2077, but as you say, some of the most obvious mechanical stuff has been fixed and we have a DLC with a bit more story going on. But it isn’t suddenly an immersive sim or an in-depth RPG.

I like that you covered the two paths on if this might be worth trying if you didn’t love the original release. I’m in the latter camp. I was disappointed with the world sim and my lack of being able to play my own character through it. Doesn’t sound like (nor did I expect) this to resolve that. Same reason why Fallout 4 didn’t capture me. The story forced you on a path that was too narrow to flex in.
