Absolutely! My two full playthroughs are both over 130 hours each, it should tell you how good it is. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for its board game version, even though there are interesting mechanics there, inspired by the video game. I find the real time element a completely unnecessary gimmick, which heavily weighs down against backing this. I feel they could have found another way to limit what you can do, like more aggressive enemies (which is what Gloomhaven does), fewer action cards (and a limit on how many times you can reshuffle your deck), etc. Instead, you get a timer that indeed puts pressure, but is also more likely to force stupid errors that are likely to sour gameplay. So a hard pass for me, unfortunately. Still, you did a very good showcase of what the game is, so your video was very helpful, though probably not in the way the designers intended ...

…made after Gibson books
@WilliamAlves8022 ай бұрын
@@eriksjogren800not inspired by the Gibson books. Pondsmith cited the novel "Hardwired" and the movie Blade Runner as main influences. Unless he has a grudge with Gibson...
@eriksjogren8002 ай бұрын
@@WilliamAlves802 Gibson wrote stories from the 70s and onwards. Burning Chrome is one. And if reading his book Neuromancer the connection to Cyberpunk (2077) is obvious. Flavourful dystopian mega cities, with mercs for hire, high tech cybernetics etc. First mention of cyber space. Jack in shards in the head for instant skills and information. etc. Published -84, it was so succesful and different, it got the whole genre a name - Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk 2077 RPG published -88. "Hardwired" rode on the wave of interest and influence for the Cyberpunk genre of that time. So Gibson not being influencial on the Cyberpunk RPG, and consequensialy the video game, is just not possible. After all, we live in the same world. And even if it's true, Gibson most certainly influenced others, who then made works that was an inspiration for others. Gibson had to rewrite the beginning of his book Neuromancer, because it was too similar to Blade Runner, which released just before his book was supposed to. An example of when something is trending people pick up on this and simultaneously similar idéas and works appear. Blade Runner the movie, was based of the book "Do androids dream of electric sheep" by Philip K Dick. Who is seen as a predecessor to Gibsons work. Although it does have the same vibe, it doesn't have the same setting as the movie or the "Cyberpunk" genre. However, Dicks work (and other Sci-fi writers) certainly paved the way for the Cyberpunk genre. And then, we can continue down the rabbit hole, with writers like Jules Verne and others, who inspired the 20th century sci-fi writers with their imaginative tales of future tecknology. Verne was inspired by Dumas and adventurers of his time. And on it goes. Back to the first scribblings on caves. We all stand on the shoulders of giants.

Very much Project Elite-ish. Less enemies, more cards, still has turns. (Which might fix a tiny problem we ran into with Project Elite: everyone started doing things that aren't allowed by the rules because of the speed and nobody being able to pay attention to what others do.)

@user-rm9qi9lz4u Almost every board game let's you play at your own pace. This one is trying to be different and I like that. Also, the timer can be anything, you don't have to use the app. You can house rule it to card limits too.

I’ve been against the timer mechanic from the get go and still am. You could house rule this by giving players a limit of perhaps 6 turns each before the next cooldown to totally eliminate the timer and the hectic gameplay. Somebody mentioned this idea elsewhere. You guys averaged about 6 turns each per round.

Hi, yes we are. The die allows you to continue to roll as long as you roll the 50/50 successfully. It could easily fizzle out if you roll a 'miss' on roll #1. Hope that makes sense (no you don't roll the enemy's black die).

I wonder why they chose to have cards just deal single points of damage rather than roll your weapon dice. It feels much more thematic to be able to shoot your weapon like in project elite. The enemy could then just perform their retaliate at the start of your turn 🤔

Was interested in this game, the real time ruins it for me. Feels a lot like they are counting on the frantic pace to hide the flaws. If slowed down, there doesn't seem to be many interesting choices to make.
@darkranex2 ай бұрын
Yeah, still waiting on a playthrough by someone who hasn't run through the scenario several times already. And even though it's a tutorial mission they managed to finish it in less then half the allotted rounds. Seems really easy. Dice rolling didn't really seem to matter either.
@ste1bro2 ай бұрын
@darkranex This is a prologue training mission. It's *designed* to be easy. By all accounts, the difficulty starts ramping up in the third and final prologue mission (a few KZbinrs were foiled by that), and gets harder and harder after that. Too mamy people are judging this game based on playthroughs of an easy tutorial - more and more mechanics are introduced later, the enemies get smarter, every mission will need a few attempts at least to beat. And the timer has already been extended - at the moment, everyone is playing on what will be one of the harder modes. Going by the campaign page, the normal and easy modes for the timer will give players 5 minutes or more per round. I'm hugely excited by this game, and I love the real time element. It's perfect for our group, five minutes of tense action, and in-between rounds we can take as long as we like discussing strategy, what to do next, etc!

@ste1bro well, it's the developer fault on choosing an easy tutorial mission to showcase his game. I'm not fully convinced the game gets much different than this.
