My favourite series on this channel returns!! 🤩 Loved this breakdown of the individual pieces, I thought it was particularly neat how well-defined the wires & leaves are at the top with such limited colours there! Also, I like the sound of that jazz pixel art analogy 🎶😎
@BJGpixel6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I was digging how those wires on their own were looking as texture; they got layered over a bit with the foliage but it's a interesting mix of organic and inorganic... of nature and machine coming together as one... biodigital jazz, man 😎

Fun fact: in the Polish language, "pharmacy" is "apteka", which is very similar to "apothecary", since both are derived from Latin "apotheca".
@tetsi08156 ай бұрын
As far as I'm aware, most germanic and slavic languages use a word derived from "apotheca" or the greek "ἀποθήκη". Not sure if the Norman conquest is to "blame" for the use of "pharmacy" in modern english.

@tetsi08155 ай бұрын
@@DontDoPhlog That is basically correct, but modern English has - and I'm not a linguist or historian, but as far as my understanding goes - ~2/3 of it's vocabulary derived from romance languages and not Germanic. That is mostly due to the Roman invasion and Norman conquest. Especially "upper class" words are often derived from Romance languages.

Hello There! Prequel something something... This design was a total win. You have really mastered the niche of cyberpunk x pastel aesthetics. My one remark - cant recall if the palette bit count was same in all similar of this 'series', but would have loved to see 1 more color, of a cyan light blue, to use for accent. Especially to also differentiate the plant/vegetation vs wires/cables up on the roof.
@BJGpixel5 ай бұрын
General Dan! Thanks so much, glad you like the design! You've got a good eye, I usually do tend to use at least one more colour to balance out the pop of alternate colour, so a cyan would fit perfectly in that way. I've been interested in keeping things limited and reductive, so I started from that this time - but it'd be curious to add that in and do a recolour variant or something. 🤔☺️✨

I don't how you'd do it, but what if one day you made a piece lining them all up? It could be a good opportunity to create a scrolling animation gif of a character walking by all the store fronts, and as they walk passed them, little bits and bobs are happening between them. It'd also be satisfying to see them in a rainbow pattern, but also seeing them in a disordered pattern might set up and good moment for creativity.

Beautiful work as always! I'm kind of curious what your work would look like at a native 1:1 resolution on a CRT as opposed to scaled up? The nature of CRT's and their scanlines, the way the phosphor glows, and all that jazz was exploited to great effect back in the day by artists to achieve all sorts of awesome things like transparencies, the illusion of more colors, implied shapes, etc. Dang I might need to dig out my old Trinitron and look at some of your stuff on it lol ❤
