I will forever think how goofy it is to have the tv in the MIDDLE OF THE ROOM! Imagine having the toilet be in the middle of a large room.

To anyone who is trying to build a video game with isometric graphics: real isometric (120° angles) and video game isometric (2:1 lines, which ends up being dimetric and not isometric) are not the same thing, so definitely work things out with your artist beforehand (speaking from experience here hahaha)

This one has such a homey feeling to it, the cramped form factor really does give it a unique flavour of nostalgia! ✨ While watching these isometric videos, I always have a fun time seeing the objects move around the room and remain in scale. It never gets old! Also, I liked that you pointed out the technique adding a bit of depth to the walls - it really does make it look like a slice of a space 😁
@BJGpixel
@BJGpixel Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It'd be fun to see this form factor in an in-game scenario; being able to walk around all the objects with depth etc. And yeah, the most fun part is arranging the room after having made all the objects, just placing tables and chairs being like "wow art is so easy!" 😅

Cool! To me it's amazing to see how comfortable you seem to work in such a limited color palette, while creating very readable objects. I guess that the many hours of practice with monochrome palette (and other minimalistic ones) really pays off :) Great result! Great demonstration of techniques, I also tend to use building-blocks when making certain isometric objects! Another valid technique is creating isometric shapes by stretching 2 isometric lines between 2 "flat" shapes (EX: Circles, to create an isometric cylinder) Or in the case of complex objects like Red, I stretch reference isometric lines across parts of my object, I can use such a line to make sure the feet are isometrically-aligned for example, as well as the hands.

Great video Mr. Greer, you certainly have a love for quality! The only thing i would have added was that the approach taken also draws inspiration from games like "MegaMan Battle Network" or even Classic JRPG's (i think that would have added to the level of quality and consideration of this project - still a great end result though!)

wow! A pokemon remake in this style would be awesome! Man, you are a wizard! I see many other artists creating great pixel arts, but what your creations are so convincing!! From a technical point of view, I could image this as a DX version of the original GB game, for example. That's the type of game I could imagine Nintendo doing 25 years ago, adding a special chip to support more sprites.

Always love your videos! Would love to see another one on isometric character design! Quick question, when working with isometric angles, how do you account for the "room" having the 4 pixel corners at the top and bottom? Doesn't that mess up the 2:1 ratio for lines? Been struggling with this myself
@BJGpixel
@BJGpixel Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah hoping to do the character one at some point :) For the corner thing, if the opposing 2-pixel lines end up creating a 4-pixel joint I just think of it as a bit of rounding along that edge. I think it's ok that the line could change around the corner. You could also pinch it in to 3px or 2px for a tighter fit, whatever looks good I suppose. For this one I was using the 8x8 tile grid to guide me, so I think the walls ended up being simple mirror images of each other and I just went with it ✨
