So to help make some terms and in universe mechanics for Cyberpunk more easy to understand going in for the people who haven't played the game (no spoilers): Slang: "Choom" (choomba) - friend, family, dude "Gonk" - idiot "Eddies" or "EDs" - short for EuroDollar, the currency in Night City "scratch" - money or payment "Zero" or "flatline" - Kill or die "kibble" - synthetic low grade food "Chrome" - cybernetic enhancements (i.e. metal arms and legs and eyes) "Chrome Jock" - someone always looking for the next upgrade "Borg" - someone who's gone past being a cyborg and replaced nearly all organic matter with cybernetics "Cyberpsycho" - someone whos gone insane after too many cybernetic upgrades "StreetKid" - a street rat, gangster, thug, etc. "Nomad" - drifter, someone who lives outside the big cities and travels "Corpo" or "Suit"- someone who works for a corporation, this can be anyone from a CEO to an intern "Fixer" - street level criminal who gets jobs done, including hitmen, smugglers, and dealers "Mover" - Corpos on the lower end of importance who hope to rise through the ranks, they often hire fixers to get things done for corpo elites "Power dealer" - someone important, either a celebrity, world politician, or high ranking corpo "cyberpunks" - general term, often referring to low-lives that commit crime "Edgerunners" - a cyberpunk who performs in unorthodox or risky ways (living on the edge) Common Cybernetic enhancements: Cyberoptics, - artificial eyes (pretty much everyone has them), lets you see facetime calls and notifications, they light up during calls or when interfacing with tech cyberaudio enhancers - artificial ear implants, lets you make phone calls at all time (pretty much everyone has them) interface plugs - basically SD slots on peoples necks to hold cyberchips that enhance skills/abilities as well as a digital wallet or some BDs (pretty much everyone has them) interface jack - basically a USB jack (usually in your wrist) that let you talk with computers using your mind (common tech, especially for tech specialists) Chip - programs, often referring to items you plug into your neck in universe terms: Wreath - basically VR glasses that let you use a BDs BD or Braindance - a VR/AR simulation, can be made by recording people's memories and burning to a drive XBD - Extreme Braindance, i.e. porn, snuff films, and illegal 'videos' of all kinds Netrunning - the ability to travel through the net by uploading your mind into it and traveling through it like it is a physical location, often used for hacking Black Ice or "Ice" - basically a firewall, capable of killing someone who tries "netrunning" places they don't belong Ripper doc - someone who replaces organics with Chrome Maxtac - cyberpsycho control unit, basically the swat team Arasaka - one of the big corporations in Night City, Japan owned information security service Militech - one of the big corporations in Night City, makes military grade weapons and enhancements There's more but these are the big ones that aren't explicitly explained, if you want a great spoiler free (in terms of the edgeruners and 2077) intro to cyberpunks world/lore, TheNeonArcade made 2 videos that does a great job going over all the major keypoints and i highly suggest watching it either before or after finishing edgerunners

FYI, Trauma Team is not just insurance. Trauma Team is a private mercenary force that you pay for. They will send in a paramilitary and medical force to clear out any hostiles and rescue you from any bad situation, including administering life-saving medical procedures in the field. NCPD will back off and stay out of TT's way. The response time and level of force committed depend on the level of your contract (Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum). That's why they ignored David and his mom. They weren't there for them; they were there for their client who were involved in the shootout.

@Ian Moone I don't think Little Stranger was in the game. I'm pretty sure the opening, ending and Little Stranger were recorded just for this. The rest of the soundtrack is 100% in the game if you look for it ir spend enough time listening to the radio.

Excited to finally watch your reaction to this incredible show! Also a cool fact is all of the music in this is from the video game. Some of the songs used in this episode were "Who's Ready for Tomorrow" by Rat Boy & IBDY, and "Major Crimes" by HEALTH & Window Weather. The only two songs not from the game are "This Fffire" and the original song "Let You Down" by Dawid Podsiadło which has a separate animated music video that I would love to see you guys react to sometime.

I'm really glad that there's a range of familiarity with the game on the couch! Most group reactions are all pretty uniform with what they know. And it's especially great that Chris is *very* familiar so they didn't get hung up on the braindance thing right away that even a lot of viewers who've played the game didn't fully understand how it works. Since they knew that that all actually happened with the Norris (the cyberpsycho in the first scene), they were able to instantly figure out that Gloria took the Sandevistan which David now has, and that's a lot more than I can say for most reactors! Show's great, excited to see more!

A lot of the themes that Chris picked up on are part of a whole genre of media known as "cyberpunk" (lowercase C), this does include Bladerunner, Altered Carbon, Deus Ex, and most recently Cyberpunk 2077. The game has improved a lot over the past few years and is in a great state right now. Still features I'd love to see in the game but many of those are coming in the expansion this year.

Right now is probably the best time to get back into the game. It's far more stable than at launch, they fixed a lot of problems (some remain), and did a really good job of implementing story threads from Edgerunners into the game. "Cyberpunk 2077" is good on consoles but recommend playing it on PC because of the vast amount of mods the modding community has created for the game.

Yes, CD Projekt Red is Polish. I played CP2077 on launch on PC and it was fine. It had bugs but nothing crippling. The problem most people had was trying to play it on underpowered hardware. That said, it's MUCH better now.

dub is the way to go with this tho. In the English dub you can hear how just like in the game, everyone speaks their own languages. You can hear some people speak japanese, or spanish, or english with different accents, because Night City as a cultural melting pot. If you listened to the Japanese dub, all of the diversity and nuances are lost.

You could argue they wouldn't have gotten in the wreck if David just got the upgrade because then they would not have had to stay behind for the meeting with the principle.

"Even if he got the upgrade , he would still be in the accident" in the bigger picture, yes there is always a risk in night city, in this specific one. No, if david would have gotten the update then they wouldnt have had the talk at the academy, then his mom would still live. so yeah, people can be angry with him. but on the other hand (like some other youtuber pointed out) if his mom would have just hit the breaks and steered away fron the shooting as soon as the first shot were fired, they also could have avoided the accident.

If you want to consider " The OG content" It is better to consider this an example of the original R. Talsorian TTRPG, Rather than the video game by CDPR. For public clarification on one of the fundamental features of the Cyberpunk setting, Cyberpsychosis and how it manifests as a control mechanic for "gameplay".... The way cybernetic implants works in general is: Every piece you install cost you a portion of your humanity, sometimes more, sometimes less. It depends on many factors including how extreme an implant it is, for example: a prosthetic replacement or a natural item that merely replicates normal function is not as dramatic as a military hardware with weapons and extras. Another factor is how the process was performed: in a sterile "with anesthetic" environment, by the finest professionals with counseling and treatment or..... Fully conscious + no pain killers by a psycho in a back alley. All of that chips away at whatever levels of humanity and empathy you had in the 1st place whether it be high or low. Add to that any naturally occurring traumatic events that damage your psyche in the 1st place..... And once your humanity/empathy reaches 0 you go Cyberpsycho. That represents a severe disassociative break with reality, and often results in a violently rampaging heavily modified cyborg. Fun times.

I played the game when it came out at launch and it would crash every hour. But I did my second playthrough after this anime came out and they have definitely fixed nearly all the glitches. Didn't crash a single time on my second playthrough. I would highly recommend this game to others now who haven't played it yet.

This series they made based on cyberpunk is basically a masterpiece in my opinion. Very little to actually criticize about it. Unless you prefer a slower pacing but for the amount of episodes available they handled pacing pretty well with what they had.
