In case you’re still confused about the beginning, that guy in the shootout’s memories were recorded onto a chip called a braindance (BD) and David was using a device to relive the experience to test it out for the Doc

Well, they made an effort, but she was working multiple shifts and was overworked. That physical strain ontop of the car accident and minimal work is what finished her, sadly. If she wasn’t overworked, she would have had a better chance to recover.

One of the things that is so great about Cyberpunk (and this show and game) is that it is such a fully developed world. The lexicon/slang in the world makes so much sense when you you figure out what it means. (Chombatta or Choomba or Choom: Neo-Afro-American slang for a friend or a family member. they use it the same way you would refer to a close friend as brother or sister today) Also Trauma Team is a private company that is basically top of the line healthcare in this world. Their services are expensive but they are sometimes included if you work for one of the Mega corporations in this world. But if you have a contract with Trauma Team when they detect that you are injured or in danger over being hurt they scramble a tactical team of the best paramedics along with the best armed security/special ops soldiers to get to you, stabilize you, and evac you and kill anyone that might get in the way. And if you aren't a paying customer (Like David's mom) then you aren't their problem.

Cyberpunk as a genre was always a bit of a cautionary tale about the potential dangers of unchecked corporate ambition and greed. In a lot of ways I think it's why this show really hits home, because there are aspects of the society of Night City that are essentially part of real world society - just taken to an extreme by the setting's exaggerated corporate culture.

Cyberpunk has never really been about unchecked corporate greed. It has always been about futuristic technological and scientific achievements, such as artificial intelligence and cybernetics, juxtaposed with societal collapse, dystopia, or decay. Cyberpunk the tabletop role-playing game though, has elements about unchecked corporate greed but due to either lack of governmental boundaries or the acquiescence of government forces. What little government still exists in the tabletop rpg and it's setting.

It's appropriate to reward artists for their work and let them carry it with them rather than assign it to whatever corporate overlords the name was technically under. Besides, Kill la Kill alone would make any studio legendary and that was all Trigger (Also Darling in the Franxx was incredible up to the whacked out ending. It was 85% legendary lol)

First of all, Cyberpsychosis is a disorder that in part depends on the subject's overall internal susceptibility. Just like every person who drinks a lot at parties doesn't end up an alcoholic in the gutter, not everyone who gets loaded up on cyberware is going to automatically go cyberpsycho. You have to have an inherent susceptibility, which (in the TRPG) is represented by the player's Humanity Stat. Humanity is not just a measure of one aspect of personality, but an overall measure of several elements including the subject's ability to emphasize and relate with others, their ability to absorb and rebound from mental and physical stressors, their ability to show compassion and flexibility to others, and whether they are able to balance their worldview through other methods.

Trauma Team is basically if SWAT ran a private ambulance company, so they get paid the big bucks to not only respond super fast to their clients being injured but also have to be ready to jump into live combat to get them out. So frankly anyone not in their client list would eat their time of trying to save those who are paying them before they are too late.

The mom was at the scene of the crime overnight and snatched the implant. The Braindance seem to be physical chips someone has to program. It is not clear how David could possibly have witnessed that event the same night. He sees it on the regular TV.

Yeah Trigger didn't do a good job segwaying the two scenes or explaining braindances. I blame Netflix for denying their request to have had more episodes for this show so it wouldn't be so rushed at times. and David was watching an XBD not the BD of the guy, they show what he's watching for a few secs it's easy to miss.

Life is cheap in the Cyberpunk world. Playing the game really helps you get the feel of how the city is just out to get you and you won't survive alone, only having someone along with you will keep you alive and make a name for yourself. David's mom understands this, but not David as he trusts his mom. And he's gonna have a harsh lesson, starting now.

So basically the big dude at the start that was rampaging was a vet named James Norris, and his tech (the one that lets you slow down time) was a Quiant Sandevistan. His memories were recorded onto a chip and sold as a Braindance, which is a way for others to relive the experience, which we see David do. His mother is an EMT, and she acquired the Sandevistan from Norris' body with the intentions of selling it to somebody in particular on the black market, but David ends up getting it installed into himself after she dies

Great reaction also the game came out in 2020 when it was announced a few years ago it was a big thing but because the game had so many problems it became unplayable and people just kinda did whatever they want to try and enjoy it like sleeping with keanu😭. One this show completed a lot more people started playing because they love the characters and it was sooo good

The soundtrack of the show is from the radio in the game. All of the locations are in-game places. All of the "call" sound effects and hacking overlays are straight from the game too. There are several settings for scenes from the anime that I was easily able to remember and recognize from the game. The attention to detail they applied in order to maintain immersion when changing forms of media is amazing.

Corpo = Corporate Trauma Team is a high priced insurance. Suits are the high ranking corporate employees. The academy David goes to is run by one of the largest corps (corporations) in the world, Arasaka.

This show is quite possibly the closest adaptation of any game. Playing the game is essentially living in the exact world the show is set in. Same aesthetic, same technology, same city, same locations, pretty much the same everything. To the point where you can find Edgerunner characters items and gear in the game. Playing the game is like living in the Anime. The game had A LOT of issues when it was first released. It ran fine for PC players for the most part but on last gen (PS4/XBOne) consoles it was a dog's breakfast. There have been a tonne of patches and upgrades since then and the game is all good now.

So glad to see you react to this show. It was a real sleeper hit, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Yes, when you create your character in CP2077 and choose to have a penis you're able to choose it's size (small, medium, large) and decide if it's circumcised or not. You'll get A TON of comments about which language version you absolutely must choose, so be prepared, but don't worry. You'll get a bunch of free engagement and most commentors argue out of a genuine wish to help, so people usually are nice. :) Personally, I'm really happy you chose the EN voice actors. The show takes place in California, this is the language that uses all the slang created in Cyberpunk lore, and characters with diverse backgrounds talk with different accents, or even totally in foreign languages. I consider the EN voice over as the official, original one, and the JP version as the dubbed over. On top of that all the songs are in English (and one in Polish) so it just fits.

Few terms to help out: Choom/Choomba - Just a generic thing to call someone. "What's up choom", or "Hey there Choomba" Chrome - Literally any body upgrades. Netrunners - Hackers like Lucy, they can hack people to incapacitate their chrome. Preem - Just a way of calling things cool. Nova - Also a way to call things cool/new Eddies - Money. Short for Eurodollars, Shards - Data chips like the ones they put in their necks Picksocket - Pickpocket but stealing from the neck socket. These are probably the most common ones. They made their own slang for the game and used it for the show too, so it is meant to be a "future lingo" that confuses you. It does have some kind of meaning though.

Basically, Arasaka is a mega corporation with subsidiaries in every sectors, from military to education, transport, medical... Corpos are people working for those mega corps (white collars mostly) Most people have basic implants which include augmented reality vision, integrated communication device and chip sockets (so theives are picking sockets instead of pockets now) Some have more advanced implants to boost their physical habilities and become stronger, faster, having added cpapabilities (hidden weapons, hardened skin, enhanced vision...) The more you "chrome yourself" (getting more implants), the more you risk to devellop cyber psychosis. It's when the metal from your implants slowly infuse through your blood to your brain and damage it to the point of develloping dementia. There is meds to slowing down the effects, but it's almost impossible to stop if you keep too much "chrome"

if you have a ps5 or a high end PC the game runs very well, it has a central plot but the game is fun with the side missions, they put a lot of little details through out the city. no one gets to have a happy ending in Nightcity. the show is taking place like few years before the events of the game and all the music is also in the game, plays on the radio when you are riding your vehicle.

FUN FACT/THEORY - I think the eason the blue haired kid's kung fu starts off with him just punching the air in front of martinez, is because those moves are preprogrammed movements, he does not KNOW kung fu, he's letting a chip take over his body and do a specific combo, so he has to take a second to line himself up with his target so he can hit them, but so people don't know this, he likely plays it off as him feinting at them first, because if people found out it was a pre programmed movement, they could easily side step and smash him WITHOUT the sandevistan,

The games story is way darker than the show, but, the gameplay. What you see the characters do in the show, you can do in the game. The show captures the gameplay pretty spot on, and even mocks the glitches.

The little chips that they are swiping from people's neck sockets are basically cred-sticks, easy disposable cash storage chips that the banks and such will honor without needing to worry too much about who's buying what, the setting-era equivalent to hard cash since anyone who has the physical chip can use the money stored on it to pay for stuff.

Cyberpunk was based off a role playing game. One of the mechanics is that the more "chrome" or cybernetics you have installed in your body, the less humanity you have. Some people get a god complex because of the cybernetics and go "cyberpsycho". An elite police unit called Maxtac hunts down cyberpsychos.

The chips they are stealing is called shards in world. Lucy is hacking the targets so they wont feel or notice them gon till they are. In the world of cyberpunk information is curancy. Any one corpret employee wouldn't have much to take but if you steal enough info from a bunch then you got back.

So the setting of Edgerunners is Night City, a fictional city in California that borders between the north and south cali states and is considered ‘independent’. In this place, it takes ‘corporate america to its furthest extreme. The city was founded by many of the mega corps of the world like Militech and of course Arasaka. Although Night City has a mayor and government, kthe corps pretty much dictate everything. Things we may take for granted now is something most of night city does not havr Most are homeless or are in poverty. Good Food and clean water is rare. The design of things takes things like Judge Dredd, blade runner, soylent green, ghost in the shell, the matrix, and Johnny mnemonic). Trauma team is like private healthcare. You get the best treatment around, but they will only treat their plan holders. The things lucy was ejecting out of people are called ‘shards’. Think of them as USB/SD cards meets apple pay. It can have things like books, passwords, to access to your wallet, car and house. Reason she targets ‘suits’ aka corpos is they are more likely to have some valuable shards. What david was doing in the beginning was using a ‘brain dance wreath’ and he was experiencing a xbd or extreme brain dance. Think VR but you sense everything from the person they pulled the recording from. And yes like Ready player one, its a form of escape from the crap world they live in. Most people will have cyberware installed (chromed up) because without even the basics, it makes interfacing with tech harder. And yes the more eddies you have (eurodollars), the better quality chrome you can get but it plants a big target on you. Imagine you drive a Lambo or mclaran while most people have a old honda civic. Very tempting to steal it and sell it. To get ahead in this world you either need to be a corpo (even then, no guarantee) or you take a life of crime. Sadly, the fact that a life of crime may actually be the better option shows you the world they live in. Doc is what is called a ‘ripperdoc’ who implants cyberware for people. Some of the slang they use: Choom/choomba - brother or friend Nova or preem - premium/awesome To ‘delta’ - to leave Corpo aka corpse - corporate suit. To flatline/zero someone - kill em. Gonk - idiot/ fool Iron - a gun To ‘klep’ - to steal Output - someone’s girlfriend Input - the boyfriend

So you were asking “who’s the corrupt government in this society” but in Cyberpunk… most of the government ain’t completely corrupt, their just absolutely mute in anything they can do. Cyberpunk Edgerunners follows on from the universe of the Cyberpunk 2020 role playing books where not governments are in charge but corporations - think a universe where stuff like Google, Apple, Amazon, etc have more influence over the world than most governments. Also Eddies are slang in this universe for Eurodollars (also slanged as Eurobucks) after major financial collapse in America was “saved” by European Bank intervention (may also have had a hand in starting the need for an intervention too)

The game version its open world, and there are multiple different endings, the show u watching is based off the map from the game, the main characters from the show is not from the game but only two characters, Adam smasher and a woman named rogue In the bar but she wasn't too involved in the show, lastly arasaka, afterlife, lizzy's, trauma team, maxtac and millatech, came from the game

The anime is actually quite similar to the game, especially in things like the environments and body modifications and oppressive atmosphere. Obviously, since the game is a first person game with shooting mechanics your experience will be different than watching an anime, but since the anime is basically a "prequel" of sorts (has nothing to do with the story of the game but takes place a year before, in 2076), there are signs of the anime's events having happened. Having 295 hours in the game, I highly recommend it if you like story-driven games with fun combat. It's by no means a perfect game, it has its faults, but those do not detract from the amazing experience that is there, especially when it comes to the story, characters and combat. Since the anime's writers are part of CDPR, they've made sure to really keep the story accurate to the Cyberpunk lore that was created in the 80s. You do need a good PC, or a PS5/XBOX Series X. I wouldn't recommend playing it on PS4 or XBOX One or a PC with poor hardware. If you do decide to play it, let us know how you like it! We always love to welcome new people into Night City.
