Great tip on reaching out to the current IR team in your org to ask for job shadowing opportunities. That’s how I got into IR. I was on the firewall team prior to IR, and they really liked my enthusiasm and passion to get into IR.

Great video as always. I'm thinking of getting my CySA+ to complement my Security+. Being a SOC analyst would be a nice transition for me, then I could put the info in this video to use by going into incident response.

Hi Meg, thanks very much really helpful 🙂. Do you have to pull many overnighters? I previously did shift work in a SOC and I only lasted 8 months because i wasn’t good with the nights.
@CybersecurityMeg2 жыл бұрын
No. At my old company I did because there wasn’t a dedicated IR team - I was the IR team - at my new company we have team members all over the world, so no one works weird hours.

Can someone get into this WITHOUT having previous IT experience? I have a bachelor's in IT and a current Security + cert. Can you offer some advice. I am 49 and trying to make a career change from previous retail background.

A lot of people recommended getting into a SOC as a starting point
@CybersecurityMeg2 жыл бұрын
Incident Response isn’t usually a first job within Cyber. Generally people join a SOC first and spend some time there getting to know their way around.

@@CybersecurityMeg So, how do I get start with or in SOC?

@@drkdrive If you're not too old, you can also join the Military and try to join Army Cyber. Their Cyber Protection Brigade training pathway is some of the best training you can get for "free", not to mention the other perks that come with the military.
