To be fair, this is informed speculation rather than news, which may (or may not) turn out to be true. We'll have to wait for the actual production Cybertruck to see how accurate these predictions are. It's going to be an awesome truck, but It's easy to get carried away with what features it might have and I think it's best to manage our expectations so that we're not disappointed when the actual truck comes out.

Individual Brake Control for Off-road would be game changing. If Steering, Braking, and Acceleration is decoupled, then you should be able to "Slide" the driver position from left to right making every car independent of country. I wish they also would use a One or more of the Bumpers as an Air Tank so that you can actually get some CFM without needing to locate a big tank somewhere. Onboard air is nice, but without CFM, not so usable. My other wish is a Solar Panel Expandable carriage that could clip to the CT side rails and hinged at the roof line. That way you could flip it up out of way if needed. As well, for normal travel around town, you could just "Unclip" the carriage and leave it at home.
@ConnectingODots2 жыл бұрын
Air tank will probably happen - when CT was just announced i was a video on EV-TV where they discussed what you said - that you need a tank, not just a compressor and mini-tank, to drive power tools - spo pretty sure Tesla are aware of it (otherwise they'll be laughed out of the room). Bumper sounds like a great place to put it 👍 Off road part i wasn't aware of - not being an off-roader myself. I wish i did, cool option and would've def mentioned it in the video. Thanks for the input👍

@@ConnectingODots If each wheel is independant suspension, indivdually driven, individually braked and individually steered, it will break 4X records. Add a bumper air tank, movable front/rear winch, individual wheel articulation - Records all around. Useability that beats them all. Then we have Cameras, tow hooks, Air Tires Up/Down from the dash. That along with capacity and power, makes a number one off-road/work/construction/fire trail/police/emergency vehicle to beat them all.

@@fetB ok but the diamond steering tank turn is not much better than rivians and just as useless. even though rivian tank turn is still not released, cybertruck hasn't even been demonstrated. Musk just wants to show that he can do everything better than the competition, you cant even use it to park, or on paveent, why try to copy it. I think for off roading, 4 wheel steering is way more useful. with opposite rear steering you can have the rear wheels follow the same tracks as the front ones, have shorter turning radius, go through a tighter space while turning, like if you had a narrower vehicle and have. with 4 motors torque vecctoring and traction control, 4 independent suspensions, the off road potential is huge the ONE thing I would love to see tesla innovate on, and I think if anyone can do it it's probably them, is to revive bose incredible active suspension. maybe buy the patents, improve the linear motors, add terrain prediction using under body cameras and make an active suspension that can literally soak all bumps/potholes/speedbump at any speeds, giving a WAY smoother ride than ANY current passive or active suspension (where only the dampener setting is active), and still corner PERFECTLY flat at any speed, with diving under braking or squating under acceleeration.grip would be iproved in every situation and comfort exponentially improved. the cherry on top would be recuperating energy from the damping, instead of converting it to heat like in classic dampers. even for handling, citroen xantia activa 27 years old moose test record could be completely blown away with modern rubber technology, an EV with very low center of gravity. even the 4 wheel steering could help have a tighter trajectory without hitting the cones. this is for me the single biggest improvement that could be brought to the car industry and would instantly make every other car obsolete. current cars are already very fast but suspension and comfort is a big limiting factor (and speed limits 🤣) especially on poor roads. for off road, I think the potential for active suspension is huge. you could have fully independent suspension with zero rollbar, and maintain even wieght over every wheel

I thought independent braking had been done like 10 years ago. It's just so logical. Removing the hydraulic fluid has one more huge advantage for high-performance applications. The problem is that if the fluid boils, you can lose braking abruptly. Brake fluids, especially racing ones, have very high boiling points, but over time water seeps in and lovers it drastically. Steer by wire is another thing I assumed was done a long time ago. I was really surprised the Plaid Model S didn't have it, because it would have removed the biggest complaint about the yoke steering wheel.
@eubikedude2 жыл бұрын
@EX German Maybe on the plaid S in Europe starting this Dec along with matrix headlights and camera side mirrors? 👀
@gregbailey452 жыл бұрын
@EX German one objection, I'm sure, is the fail-safe failure mode of an assisted mechanical system where if the power assistance fails, the nechanical system backs it up. A fly-by-wire steering (or braking) system a priori does not have this backup safety capability.

In phase steering (crabwalk) is a GREAT thing to have when towing. There is an incredibly dangerous circumstance that occurs when making an emergency lane change when towing a bumper pull trailer. Take for instance a quick swerve into a lane to your left. When your front wheels turn they act like they're pushing a lever with its fulcrum at the center of the rear axle. The distance between this fulcrum and the ball of the trailer hitch makes its own little lever that pushes the trailer hitch a little bit to the right, imparting a weight shift to the mass of the trailer opposite the direction you need it to go. Just as the mass of the trailer starts to the right, the rear wheels of the tow vehicle start to follow the front wheels left and immediately jerk the trailer back to left. This quick right then immediate left action on the trailer ball causes all of the weight above the trailer axle to tip the trailer to its right. The correction back left is what starts the wild tilting tail whip that often causes the tow vehicle to spin out and the trailer to roll over. If instead, the rear wheels turn in phase with the front, the whole tow vehicle and its trailer hitch head left together without that momentary counter force. TFL Trucks made a video explaining and demonstrating a system like GM's old QuadraSteer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnrEpImffrGZrJI

I often see ads for pickup trucks traversing through rough terrain while the truck would Pitch, Roll and Yaw. Wouldn't it be great if it can glide through it like a hover craft? I think It can be achieved by each of the wheels having a computer controlled actuators. By applying some AI like the Boston Dynamic robots, the truck body would be kept steady and level. The truck would drive through speed bumps, parking lot blocks and pot holes as they weren't there. I could imagine the Cybertruck auto unloading a stack of 4x8 plywood or bags of concrete by bouncing it down the builtin tailgate ramp. I would by one of these in a heartbeat.

the technology already exists and works since 2007 although tuned for the road, its hard to not see the potential for off road: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXyzinyXoNhki7s bose had been working on it from the 80's but never made to production because of "weight and cost" hopefully almost more than 15 years later with the massive progress in motors, electronics, it could be made cost efficient and weight...lets say I would be ready to concede a lot of weight for this level of suspension. I think the biggest limiting factor is the performance/compactness of linear motors. todays EV's are fast and handle well despite the weight anyway. I think next gen suspension is exactly what they need to take driving to the next level

Wow great video. One of the best explanations of Cybertruck technology I’ve seen yet. I really hope you’re right about everything you predicted here.

another tech that could be in the cybertruck: Liquid Cooled Seats. tesla filed a patent for it back in 2019 and they filed an amendment to the patent a few months ago. This is the next logical step in integration following the seats directly mounted to the battery pack. by placing a liquid coolant loop in the seat, the seats can be heated/cooled by refrigerant pumped in from the same heat pump and thermal management system that regulates the battery and the A/C. This will unlock new levels of passenger comfort, as you can dial the liquid in the seat to a specific temperature, rather than just turning a electric resistive heater or fan on and off. This will be much more effective at heating and cooling passengers and it will be much more energy efficient. I could see this reducing the overall need/usage for cabin AC by quite a bit which will save tons of energy in and of itself...

Pure gold! I love it. Here's my take on that patent. I wondered whether they'd use it on Plaid, they didn't. But you're right that seats on batt make it much simpler! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2isZKeYnreGjpo

@@ConnectingODots just watched your video. Had no idea that you covered the liquid cooled seats in the past. Hopefully we see tesla roll them out soon I'm excited for it.

So the new "break thru" braking is "brake by wire"? Ok, so I watched the rest of the video. I'm impressed!

I have had ABS, traction and stability contol on the last several cars I have owned. All of this works by individually controling the line pressure to each wheel. This does however work by using a hydraulic pump and a brake modulator module.

A step on the bumper is better. You don't need handrails. The side of the truck is the handrail. Tesla tilting the whole truck is even more complicated. It is a good addition, but isn't a replacement. If you tilt the bed, and you have things in the back, they can roll out as soon as you open the tailgate.
@ConnectingODots Жыл бұрын
True. Tilting mostly for using ramp and loading. Without ramp, just lower (rear AND front of) truck and use bumper step

Given Tesla's focus on manufacturing at scale, and the new technologies you describe including brake by wire, electric brakes, electric steering and so on, I wonder if the CyberTruck will have 2 identical "drive modules", one for each axle. Each module will contain a pair of motors, air suspension, independently steerable wheels, and electric brakes! Imagine that! This would open up a further reduction in cost as 2 or more identical axle drive modules are fitted for either the 4WD or 2WD (or 6WD!) CyberTruck! Then "just" software configures the role of the module to differentiate the operation for front wheel and rear wheel operation. Plus, reversing at high speed with unmatched stability would be possible :)

Don't forget it's ability to potenially swim. With an onboard pnuematic system, there's all kinds of Bond toys that Tesla could add. I'd like to see a drone added, also. The Cybertruck cockpit would be an excellent mission control.

I could be wrong but at around 37 seconds into the video when the cybertruck is backing up it looks like the rear wheels do turn.

Yes they do! I missed it myself, then added it quickly to the end of the "Rear wheel steer" section while editing the video, after the sound recording was done. Definitely RWS
