Every US politician needs to watch this video.

17:00 to 18:30 or so; Perhaps we need to ban shareholder buybacks and regulate dividends. That's privatizing profits and socializing losses, which the video rightly calls out. But it needs to stop. And which politicians in the US in power are going to stop it? None that I can see.

The last thing we need in the US is protectionism. It's turning the entire perspective of the industry backward. Our manufacturers and our politicians have resisted innovation and they need a stiff dose of Chinese competition.

In the early years of the 50’s-60’s Volkswagen concentrated its expertise in the very successful Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Bus, just a few models that only improved over the years. Wonderful cars.

When you talked about how China used GM Siac to learn to manufacture cars, I kept thinking about when given the same opportunity for the US to learn to make batteries from CATL, WV politicians stepped in to prevent it. It's like they want America to fail.

We also have such a bad situation in Turkey. Automotive manufacturers and dealers are cartels with high castles and moats. They prevented developing electic or any turkish national cars for years. Then the turkish government shotgun forced them to make a turkish electric car called TOGG. İts been selling a lot in turkey now. New car company togg uses Tesla style developmend and sales distribution. They call themselves a tech company rather than a car company. The fact that the situation in europe was getting so bad, the government had to push them really hard to get these several auto giants in Turkey to join forces and create a new electric car.

Tesla factory layout is identical to other manufacturers that have been around for decades longer. It’s common practice. Glad Tesla uses it too, but that doesn’t make them different,

How about less innovation and lower prices. Or innovation to lower prices rather than bling that most of us don’t want.

I want a vehicle that costs less than my house. I want a vehicle that I can work on myself without a degree in computer science. If someone would offer a base model truck, keeping the price affordable and making it simple and reliable, they would sell. Government regulation has forced the auto manufacturers to produce vehicles that are so expensive that most people are priced out.

But if I haven't watched the video how do I know I like it? Every person who tells me to press the like button now, instead of when it is correct to do so thinks I'm stupid. So now I have 45 minutes of content that I can safely presume will talk down to me and probably just lie; because it was posted for SOME reason and it thinks I'm stupid.

Ohhhh, oooohhhhh Don’t say that! About Holden. The “they stole our industry……” mouth breathers will pipe up. And that is the official story here. The conservative government “stole our dang instustryyyyyyyyy” Closer to the truth is, The official plan was to close the factory with the VE during this time the federal government sick of never getting a straight answer from GM told them in a grandstand put up or else… It would be then the de facto closing of Holden by idling the plant for 3 years till 2020 and do??? Became kill it, this turnip is dry. Trouble is the greedy bastards never gave up the dream of selling the ultra high margin lux stuff here… (There is a obscure podcast by brand(ing) experts on how the inconstant quality and absolutely hateful crap GM dumped here ruined Holden a long time before but I forget its name) 9 or so months after killing off Holden (that was clearly dying on its feet in 2019&2020) they drop the GMSV Clanger, still yet to do anything of note… Word is we only got the VF from middle management at Detroit fudging and memberberies from there times at Holden. It was an effectively a MK2 version of the platform done to prove a point. A platform wasted by the 2008 chaos (look up the torana concept & imagine what Cadillac could have done….) Gm very spitefully refused to sell Holden not wanting another Opal embarrassment but said they didn’t want Saab like chaos. There would have been a very good chance a Chinese brand would have bought it to fast track moving into the austral-pacific region. They also closed down the world class proving ground, that vinfast got burnt with.

Ford > 750,000 F150's - Tesla... <50k CT's. ". Many paid $10,000 for a CT option they haven't even received. And right now I have to ask, has ANYBODY had a service/part replaced at a Tesla dealership that took less than a month? It doesn't matter how many you sell, if you can't keep them on the road & the customer happy. Sales will tank. & Failed to mention the Cybertruck "CyberTent" cost $2,975. Three thousand dollars, for a tent & add a Tesla cook stove for another $6,000. (pass)

Its a controlled demolition, the goal is to make private vehicle ownership a relic of the past. Always remember the WEF motto driving everything in the background "you will own nothing and be happy". So the moguls will bleed the industry dry and let it collapse and "whoops, sorry guys it didn't work out, but its been a good run" the usual schemes and scams thats justified because they truly steer the ship and we are just along for the ride, which is exactly how translort is going to become. We'll just be along for the ride, well as long as we do what we're told....

Greed came to town. The fun and love for the American vehicle has lost it's shine. Everyone is buying imports, you killed the race tracks, insurance companies and the private equity corporations took over the collision business and the talented people lost interest. Keep using stupid innovations and we'll have to start all over.

IMO most people don't really want innovation. They want a car that isn't junk and is easy to get fixed if something does happen. Every manufacturer has dropped platforms that had those reputations of being bulletproof for tiny, wound up turds of engines and EV systems that are so proprietary, the dealers can't even work on them.

This was well done. Great lesson. I offer up the Aptera as a new US company that might lead the solar vehicle journey. Only if they get the investment . Currently showing at CES 2025. BTW, they promise to offer "Right to Repair". Why not? Not much can go wrong with an EV. Much superior mode of transport in urban areas. Not so great for rural as of yet.

Why are there no more "Stick Shifts" in cars and trucks? Buttons or a Dial are now used to switch gears leaving behind "Form follows Function" engineering. A handful of Woke Lesbians complained to car companies that "Stick-Shifts" are too masculine and they are "Offended". Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. Or have to. And never mind Lesbians only ride scooters or broom sticks.

DEI has been better than bullets ruining western culture and businesses. Putin could not have invented a better concept to harm America. Or did Putin come up with DEI and implemented by Rogue Russian agents let in by our open borders thanks to Democrats being in charge? Riddle me that one Batman.

Understand these are the result of the "Woke Liberal DEI Agenda" that has been not "Embraced" but "Forced" unto companies. DEI being simply the process where people are pushed to the front of the hiring process that do not have skill or talent, resulting in Failure every time. A process I believe conceived by Russia, and it was only the Liberal LBTQ Crowd, as always, that drank the Russian Kool -Aid. Nobody cares if you are gay. Simply whether do you have a skill or talent, or a brain enabling you to learn one? DEI is better than bullets ruining western culture and businesses.

Your analysis of US car companies losing their R&D mojo is true (first hand experience, too long to narrate), but that doesn’t justify lionizing Tesla. The stock price is unjustifiable, though explicable as an Elon pump and pump. Comparing an Audi R8, a real pleasure to drive, built by engineers for car enthusiasts, to a Tesla pierces the veil of hype PDQ.

I fuckin' hate EVs. Stop making cars for political reasons and get back in touch with the customer. Case in point - modern pickups/trucks hated by farmers who wants and old school pickup. Another case - an Indian 3 cylinder specific for their markets and economics. Just give me a "Cortina 3.0 V6" and I'll drive it till I check out. Easy.
