heard of "Fail fast Fail often"? The whole CI/CD world in software development is basically what Munro calls "Lean" but applied to software. So it's really a lot more related than you think. Tesla/SpaceX use the equivalent of "agile" for manufacturing. (Never really fully applied at that scale)

@@markbeleski3524 It is important for Tesla fans and especially Tesla investors to understand at least the basics of manufacturing. many call Tesla a tech company or a software company. This is simply not true. Every dollar Tesla earns comes from selling a product they manufactured in a factory. In order for Tesla shares to be worth the price they sell for today the company needs to build and sell millions of vehicles. They are learning quickly but face serious competition from experienced experts as they move forward. Tesla's continued rapid growth depends on developing mastery over and vastly expanding their supply chain and manufacturing techniques.

So very true. Every time some guy comes out with a "simple affordable car" for just puttering around town or picking up groceries, they make it a one or two seater, using a basic motorcycle engine and minimalist frame. Then they wrap the thing in a swoopy carbon-fiber shell that's nothing but complex curves which doubles the price of the thing and wonder why they can't sell any.

András Bíró good luck with affording that. Titanium isn’t really that expensive but at a pretty costly amount. The cost is the labor it’s hard to work with. Also I heard it’s kinda rare. Putting it on a truck that will add the Tesla from $40,000 to probably an extra $10,000 or $20,000 at most. So the truck would be around $60,000.

Amazing comparison, just a suggestion for the future, try using audacity to remove the white noice in the background of the audio. It's easy, just important the audio, select a section of silence, go to effect>noise suppression, then press on the analyze noise button, then select all the audio and again go to effect>noise suppression, and select apply, export the audio and use the filtered audio in the final edit. Hope this helps, keep up the amazing work!

Just makes you realise how little all the big manufacturers have budged from the traditional design conventions for fear of failing to trigger the emotions of their target market. And the Cybertruck comes along, strips away all the curves and glossy paint and its the most curious, provocative, seductive product in decades. Love it or hate it, people want to know about it, everyone is talking about it and wouldn't say no to having a ride in one.

will you be going into the details of how the unibody material behaves in the event of a crash? how differently does the material behave in the event of high speed collisions? what about collisions between the truck and a person (also compared to a conservative design)?
@steveseeger
@steveseeger 3 жыл бұрын
It should benefit from the same improvements found in other Tesla's vs ICE for the most common head on collision you have more empty space up front (no giant gas motor and accessories) allowing for best in class crumple zone. If you are in an accident, being in the heavier vehicle is an advantage with transfer of energy, less energy gets transferred to your person. CT is heavier than all those trucks. It may be worse for striking a pedestrian since its a giant truck, heavy and harder materials.. however Tesla has the best pedestrian avoidance system with all the cameras surrounding the car running algorithms to analyse and detect objects constantly.

Great show. The Laser etching pre bending, interesting, but I have this image of 2 guys manually aligning panels in a conventional brake. The Prototypes were probably done this way, manually. I believe the bending will need to be automated for alignment and multiple braking starting with panel crease line and multiple braking in fixture to brake 90* edges for TIG welding assembly by ROBOTS. To automate this bending process requires lots of equipment too which are robotic and complicated and different than stamping but probably expensive for automated production. Great comparing comparing RIDGELINE ENDOSKELETON differing with CYBERTRUCK EXOSKELETON, Were DELOREAN panels stamped using thin Stainless Steel. I thought You gave GOOD comments about all 3 trucks and a lot of people learned for the first time about Carbon Fibre option for GMC box. JAY LENO show tonight could cause pre orders for CYBERTRUCK to move up from 700 thousand to 1 million. Mr. Munro: I'm wondering why you recomend waterjet cutting over laser? I've priced waterjet parts vs laser cut parts (1" Gade 50 steel plate) and the waterjet is generally 3-5x more expensive because of the inches per minute of cut. I'm guessing it's the edge quality/zero heat warpage and ultimate precision of the waterjet and how this eleminates problems down the line. Still, a well tuned laser using nitrogen can leave a very clean edge and very little Heat Affected Zone with .0025" precision while running crazy fast. I'm sure you've done studies on this, what are your thoughts on these processes?

Agreed. Waterjet edges are also rough compared to laser cutting. That's one of the advantages of SS over Al, easier to laser cut.
