I've been a professional auto glass installer for almost 20 years and this hurt my soul. Cowl panel still on so it's going to be a stuff job. Round bead strung out. We can only hope he used the proper pinchweld primer to inhibit any rust.

Round bead "strung out" I don't know WTF that is either but then again I've never done this. Dupont U-428. AH! Pinchweld is a type of welding? and you use this UNDER the bead if that's present? Well wouldn't one use it anyway I mean its cheap as hell... Betaprime 5504G ?? Anyhow this goo likes sunlight and high humidity. AK.. not good. AZ not too good. FL very good!

Round bead creates 2 points of contact. The reason you see installers cut a v in the tip and run against the install surface is so the glass presses into the tip of the V shaped urathane and spreads evenly without air into a square.

Cut a V on one side of the tip and put the tip directly on the windshield channel. It will prevent the potential of dropping the urethane on the dash and interior and also creates a ridge of urethane which creates a better seal when the glass is applied. Keep up the good work🤙🏼

​@@PonkyKongaccording to about any manufacturer of the glue and how they do it on original assembly you are supposed to use a v notched nozzle that lays a triangle shaped bead on the primed (looks like that was done) metal, so it spreads evenly and without trapping air. Also you are not supposed to just let it float and drop down, but lay it directly onto the metal with the nozzle, to prevent air bubbles again and get good initial contact. Laying the bead on only loosely like this might result in bad adhesion and water ingress.

I remember, I used to work at Honda car plant and one day, robot who was lying that glue was shut down. 20 plus people was needed to replace its work while mechanics were working on it.

Gonna sound silly, I worked at the Mercedes Benz plant and our robot did the same.. I remember correctly the robot puts the you urethane on the windshield .. primer goes on the vehicle frame

@@ASti_Spumante regarding the Glue both works. Primer usually is only needed on the metal. The glass, especially the black coating around the edge does not need to be primed. I have seen most often glue is put on the glas, as it is easier to move around the glas on a stand, than the vehicle frame. It seems it is easier to apply for a robot as well, as you can lay the glass mostly flat, which helps as well. And you can possibly get a way with a slightly smaller robot. Technically, if the glass is positioned and pressed on correctly, it should not make a difference.

Not silicon. Urethane. No way silicon has the holding power to bond a windscreen properly. Betaseal is my go to. Sikaflex doesn’t seem to stand up in a v as well.

We did as well when I worked in a bodyshop. Over 30 years and this is the first time I have seen urethane applied to the car instead of the windshield. And we always v grooved the tip after we warmed the cartridges.

With a steady hand like yours, you’d be a great installer! One technique for a longer-lasting installation: I did install quite a few windshields on BMW’s, and glue always goes on the glass first. 1. Use an adhesion promoter called a primer on the window frame and glass before installing 2. Cut a V in the tip and make a sharp peak with the glue on the glass like a mountain top. 3. Overlap glue slightly where the start meets the end. This guarantees even spread, good adhesion, and no leaks. Good luck!

I have had to do this with the cheapest, standard caulk gun before. My brother and I are both big and strong and were taking turns squeezing out the adhesive. I now have a heavy duty applicator and laugh when I think back on what we did.

This is why windshield leak after getting a new windshield installed. This guy just hoped and prays the butly sealant seals the new windshield . In fact if you don’t smush down the gasket with your fingers you chance a small air bubble inside the butly tube . Which you won’t notice until you have a moldy musty smell inside your car . Great job

Thanks. I did my first windshield this way also with a circle bead and had no issues whatsoever, no leaks etc. The comments are so foolish as if a V bead is superior which it really is not-the claim is that V uses only “one point of contact” but it actually risks more chance of porosity because you have to lay the profile of the V down in order to mate the first point of contact. The whole theory and teaching behind it is actually really flawed-especially when you pay to learn such a foolish technique. God is with you Sir, stay blessed. ❤
