Chuck - well, the girls performed a bit of a miracle. My wife was a big “NO” to FSD and I was forced to fly FSD solo until… she saw this video and your girls were so persuasive, that she backtracked a bit and started letting me engage it in simple back country roads and then graduated to secondary roads and is growing confident with it. Highways are still off limits, but I think that is coming soon. We had a bad wreck about a year ago (we were T-boned by someone who ran a red light. We were traveling at 50-55 mph and she caught us right on my B pillar). My wife has been a nervous wreck ever since, but she actually likes how FSD has handled some situations and is far less apprehensive about giving control to the truck. I just wanted to say “Thanks!”! After all, the whole reason I bought the CT was to make her trust being on the road again. We went on a long ride today and she shocked me by saying she may want to try driving the truck, just not quite there yet..😊😊😊😊

Excellent. My sister in law used to HATE FSD and would veto using it any time she was in the car (motion sickness etc). With v13 she prefers it to me driving 😂

Chuck- loved following the girls processing this FSD excursion. I have a funny story concerning my sister-in-law refusing to use cruise control in any vehicle telling me FSD would never fly in her cars. Well, we all went out to dinner and through an extensive Christmas Winter Wonderland Light Show that was set up in a closed water park (it’s a bit chilly in NY to go for a swim) and back home. I had FSD V13.2.2 engaged on the CT the hole trip. When we sat down to have a cup of coffee at the kitchen table I asked her how she found the drive. She raved about the comfort and the sound system. Then I asked if she noticed that I hadn’t been driving the truck the whole trip. I think she had to intercept her jaw before it went crashing down on the table. She thought that I was joking with her, but then my wife (who was not a FSD fan either) chimed in and confirmed that she saw the blue path planner on the screen. I know that was cruel on my part, but no worse than enduring her terrible driving habits. Anyhow, she may have a better appreciation for Tesla FSD going forward. 😊😊😊😊

Awesome video and great questions by your family members! Shows a basic understanding and what people care about before using an autonomous vehicle. I think if soon FSD is too good to make as much videos as you are doing today this kind of content would be a great addition!

“Does the truck self park?” - Welllll, right now, it’s complicated…😅
@1flash357121 күн бұрын
since there is no option to self park once it gets to the end destination, it is random. Sometimes it parks itself, and sometimes it doesn't. It depends on the situation.
@lastoneontheboat21 күн бұрын
@ and non-CT HW4 is more constantly self-parking on FSD even though that’s not a currently ‘active’ feature - sometimes not really parking but sometimes parking well and even backing in, which the CT currently can’t do. But almost all Teslas including the CT can now Autopark, but that’s a feature separate from FSD. But you can’t currently activate it while on FSD. Sort of how a Black Rider, despite the swiftness of his steed, passed the hobbits in Woody End as they hid in the bushes, and Frodo unknowingly made himself visible to the riders by putting on the ring, sort of activating Summon on them. After which the riders basically needed to reverse and pursue the hobbits through buckland, narrowly escaping them at the ferry before arriving at the town of Bree. But soon FSD v13 will include self-parking as a feature, and drivers will be able to pick between pulling over, parking in a parking spot, driveway or garage in the future.

Did a 400-mile round trip from Vancouver WA to Edmonds WA for a Christmas Eve family get-together on v13.2.2. Only 1 disengagement, and that was just before getting home, turning into my neighborhood! It is so amazing with city lane merges and roundabouts, hundreds of miles of I5 including 80mph driving and stop and go driving (in Seattle), then neighborhood driving and errands around Edmonds. The disengagement was because the turn into my neighborhood is from a suicide lane where you can turn in both directions. This instead of a dedicated turn lane, and it, for some reason, won't get into the suicide lane to make the turn. Silly error by FSD. Also rained on the drive home heavily 3 times, and fsd never gave up. It reduced its top available speed during the heavy rains and moved over to the slowest lane, but was able to at least stay at the speed limit. Sped back up again as the rain eased off to full hurry mode speed and performance!

Interesting @31:35 when the Cybertruck hesitated to stop and halted past the crossing, you can see on the screen that it interpreted the green number sign which is to the right of both lights, as a green light once it is stopped. But still waits until the correct one turns green to start rolling: this means it hesitated to respect the correct red light before stopping, but made the right decision smoothly for the circumstance.

Girl in front really needed to know the answer to, “can it parallel park?” You got distracted and left her hanging. That probably was the one thing that would’ve sold her on it full stop. Because plenty of people are really bad at it.

when people hear full self driving they assume it will be perfect so the mistakes stand out more. if they expected it to be bad and instead it handled it well then those instances of good driving would be standing out to them instead.

Chuck why do you say FSD can’t read signs? What’s the difference between FSD reading a stop sign versus reading a “no right on red” sign? Isn’t it just a matter of FSD recognizing(reading) the sign?

Sorry Tesla can’t actually read speed limit signs since v10.69. This goes even for AI4 cars. I have multiple areas I would challenge you to drive in Nashville where it never actually reads speed limit signs. Construction on interstate with posted signs don’t get recognized. In west TN there is city that don’t use normal 5 MPH based speed limits. It has 23 MPH and 28 MPH.

It was good to give your nieces exposure to FSD but they didn't seem to be too impressed. Unless your nieces have a computer or tech background I got the impression they do not realize just how impressive Tesla AI driven self-driving tech is. What Tesla has done is state of the art and much more advanced than any University real world AI research program that I am aware of. Not really surprising I guess considering the same lack of public awareness applies to the advanced tech in the design of integrated circuits, or ASML photo lithography machines, or aircraft, or sky scrapers, or the latest cruise or container ships, or starlink, etc. All of these advances affect their lives directly or indirectly but few can appreciate the science and technology behind it. Of course there wouldn't be many sales of computers or smart phones if people did need to understand what's under the covers to use them.
