I always treated my cyclamen as annuals - once the blooms and leaves were gone they ended up in the bin. Thank you so much for this video - with your advice and care tips I'll try to grow them again

Ah, a common complaint. Many cyclamen are killed in this way by kindly people trying to revive a poor plant that just wants to rest. I am sure you will do better with your cylamen from now on and not kill them. I recently did a cyclamen planting video if you are interested. Just search 'Douentza cyclamen' in KZbin.

Thanks for the informative video. Cyclamen are great and easy here in Western Oregon. The winter flowering variety requires patience over a few seasons but are well worth it. They even seemed to not put up any foliage for a season or two but have now seeded around slowly from the first three planted. The fall flowering ones are much more prolific and give eight months of interest in my garden with foliage from fall through mid spring and lovely flowers in late summer. Especially useful for smaller and middle sized gardens. Would not be without cyclamens in my garden

Hi Rachel! I love cyclamen! I have had my community pot of florist cyclamen for three years! The best yet for me 😁. I put mine in a shallow pot with a lot of grit. I cannot grow the Hardy ones though, I've tried it's just to cold here 🙁.....I also have one ornithogalum dubium out of three! Boy they really like to go dry! Thanks for sharing

Hi 🙋🏼 Love you're video! I'm so glad to find someone who maybe able to help me.. Recently i was gifted a cyclamen persicum plant & it's beautiful although im struggling with caring for my new little buddy 🌱 I've never had the responsibility of this plant before which makes me a perfect beginner 😊 I've been searching for information about it & have learned how the plant has a dormancy period which has given me a bit of hope on being able to keep him for some time.. My confusion lays with the fact that we're just reaching the start of september, he has stunning leaves & is pushing up quite a few new buds below them at the stems of their elders.. Should he be going into dormancy around now or has he just recovered from that? I'm unsure if he is preparing to go into dormancy or if he's dying because im doing everything or something wrong.. I feel like i need to learn fast if im going to save him... Any advice/tips would be so greatly appreciated!

Hi there and welcome to the channel. Cyclamen persicum hybrids should be waking up around now. Generally they are summer dormant. In my greenhouse one is in full leaf, one is sending up its first growths and the third is still dormant. If a plant is making new growth it should be encouraged with water, a little at first and then more as they plant gets bushier growth. Hope this helps and good luck with your cyclamen.

Where do you live? They might be okay if it's really sheltered. I have a friend in Bray who gets away with the florist types in the ground all year.

I have never seen hard Cyclamen corms at sale here. Several years ago I collected seeds from Cyclamen persica which I planted in the ground and which managed to survive there for a number of years. Oddly enough it rotted when I decided to plant it in a pot together with the seeds. However just now I have 4 plants sprouting on the flower bed I have planted with succulents a few weeks back. The soil has been removed and they showed up in a diferent place. I am ansious to see if they Will grow enough and bloom. Aren't plants surprising?

Hi Fernanda. I am not surprised you have gotten away with persicum outdoors. A friend of mine in a sheltered Dublin garden also grew them outdoors for several years. Don't know if they survived the 2018 snows though. Good luck with your seeds. It's always nice to grow something from seed. The C. hederifolium 'Silver Cloud' in the video, I raised from seed a few years back. Happy growing 🎄

I have mine in a non heated place next to a north facing window between 16-19°C. I guess temps will go down to 14 or 13 during a cold snap, we will see if they slowly die in these conditions. I hope they wont.

@@GardeningatDouentza well, my cyclamen think that it was too hot in my appartement...so now they are outside, in bright shade, northern exposure, with temps between 7-22°C during the day, and between 2°C-9°C at night. I hope they react well to that. :\

I have bought a mini cyclamen but don't know wether it is a hardy or not - it just says 'mini cyclamen p10.5! Anyway, i have left it indoors tonight as it is cold - oops!

It is probably a florist cyclamen, C. persica, so that means it's not hardy ( in this part of the world anyway).

I always thought that you had to water indoor Cyclamens from the base, but as the leaves were wet in the ones you showed us, I guess that that is not so!?!

No, no need to water cyclamen from the base but i wouldn't pour water directly onto the corn. Happy growing!
