Not sure if this has been recommended to you, but you would have almost no flats if you used tubeless tires and rims. It takes a bit of practice to get used to tubeless, but no patching and only rarely you have to poke a bacon strip into a hole, which is way easier than removing the wheel, tire, tube to patch. You can fix it in a couple of minutes. Tough to make that change in the middle of a tour, but check it out next time. I would never ride with tubes again.

Hey there Bill! I've been using Stan's No Flat since 2004 on my MTB and it works great for that. However, I would never recommend using this for long term bike travel. One thing you would need to carry a jug of it with so you can replenish your tires every so often and I am not sure you would be able to properly fill your tires with the enough PSI for the load. The advantage of using it with my MTB is so that I can run lower pressure in the tires and not worry about pinch flatting. If you're traveling long term with tubeless tires that is cool, but nah I wouldn't take this chance, nor would I suggest this to anyone. It takes me a few minutes to patch a tire and we're back on the road. We each carry one tube just in case we get a slice (this has happened once) that can't be patched and I carry a couple dozen self adhesive patches with us. While in Pueblo, Mexico I was worried we might run out, so I picked up a patch kit that came with glue and a couple dozen patches to carry with. Also, I drilled each of our rims to accept Schrader valves so that if need be we can get a new 26" tube anywhere in the world. Thanks again for following along and all the best on your travels. Take care. ~Ron

Yes, faces look miserable when you’re pedaling but the feeling inside can be quite different, the experience can be very satisfying! 👏👏 thank you for the visit to my country I’m glad you enjoyed it. 👍🤣❤️

Love to see the new video of El Salvador. Thank you for the efforts to share your journey with us. My favorite part of this video is hearing your wife tells the story about the people who bought you lunch at the Puma station. #thekindnessofstrangers #pedalwell

Many thanks Juan! We truly loved the amazing people of El Salvador! Sadly, we don't record our personal interactions with people (unless the camera is already on) so we are unable to really show how kind and welcoming El Salvadorians are. We wish El Salvador and her people all the best. Cheers Ron and Petra

So many beautiful views, Pacific ocean, tunnels, rivers. It's hot 103-105F Only reason you can handle this heat because you're from Florida 😆 Good to know that people are kind in El Salvador. 👍

Hello Thomas!! The ride along the coast in El Salvador was very nice and the people in El Salvador are really really friendly and welcoming. We don't film our interactions with people unless the GoPro is already running because we consider these moments "Special" and "Genuine" encounters and with a camera rolling they may not be. Hope that makes sense. However, despite the horrors that grab the headlines in the media about El Salvador, we found everyone we interacted with to be genuinely friendly. Take care and Happy cycling and birding my friend! ~Ron & Petra

Finally I was already wondering what happened. Nice to see another video from you guys. Sounds like it was a little bit warm in El Salvador, lol.How come you wear long sleeves? Wouldn't it be cooler to wear t-shirts when it is hot? Anyway. Nice video and I am already waiting for the next one. Safe travels.

Hello Artep! Thank you for following along. All good here! :-) The long sleeves are to keep the hot HOT sun off our skin and we feel it helps keep us cooler. Take care!

If you're doing instructional videos, I'd also love to know if/how you do stretches at the beginning and end of the day!
@PedalPowerTouring2 жыл бұрын
Hey there Elizabeth. We do have some "How to..." type videos and want to create more, but at the moment we're just focusing on documenting our travels. As for stretching, this is something we need to do more of. We do some stretching before, during, and at the end of the day, but nothing is really set in stone or routine. Probably something we should focus more on to be honest. :-) However, can add something like to our video to do list. ;-) Take care Petra and Ron

Did you guys ever have to provide proof of onward travel while in latinoamerica? I noticed you only had to show passport on one occasion. I plan to go from Mexico to Argentina and am very curious how it is border crossing. most info on internet is only for plane and motorcycle travel
@PedalPowerTouring Жыл бұрын
Hello Cahookie901! Pretty much every border police asked us where we were headed to and we just said whatever country was next and that seemed to be ok. The only border we were asked to show anything (ie a flight ticket) was crossing into Panama from Costa Rica. However, we know of a few other cyclists when asked at the Panama border just told them they were on bicycles and heading to Colombia. When crossing into Costa Rica, we were asked where we were staying for the night and I pulled out my phone and looked where the next hotel was and that wrote that down. Nicaragua was by far the hardest one to cross both in and out of. You need to submit some paperwork a couple weeks out and then have it with you at the border. Then you will get more paperwork to fill out and then have to take your bags into another building and get them sent through and X-ray machine. They only inspected the number of bags we wrote down and that is all we took into the building. When you exit Nicaragua, just leave all your gear and bicycles outside, go in and pay your exit fee and then walk back out and get on the bikes and roll into Costa Rica. Hope this helps and happy cycling! ~Ron & Petra

Other than Costa Rica, you won't get another stamp You get one Central American stamp for 4 of the original 5 Central American countries. Costa Rica is an international tourist destination hotspot so they logically opted out
