How the hell you know for certain the MT07 is better if you have not ridden the other? The 690 can do whatever MT07 can plus jumping and some offroading, riding a tall bike is never the same as a standard bike. As for reliability, any bikes longevity depends on how you maintain it sure it has more quirks due to the highly tuned engine, compromises to reduce weight etc but its worth it. It is that much fun

@@donkeizluv I'm certain because I've owned the MT07 and I've worked as a technician and I've seen the horror show of reliability that is some of KTM's bikes. @Frank_Torre8 ай бұрын
@@donkeizluv I just think the 690 can't be that great given it's a KTM and the fact KTM are having to update it next year to compete with the new Ducati Hypermotard Mono. But as for comparing the MT07 to the 690 here, they're totally different. One is full on supermoto which can do offroad, while the other is a naked bike that can pretty much do everything on road. As far as if you turned a MT07 into a offroad machine I do think the KTM would be better due to weight savings. That said if you build both to be a commuter/touring bike I feel the MT07 would be a better option, plus it would come out cheaper with the MT07.

@JRodSMX8 ай бұрын
As someone who owns both, my vote goes to the 07 for street use. It cost way less money and the cp2 engine is phenomenal and proven to be extremely reliable. It has the power where you want it and where you will be using it 95% of the time. Don't let brochure specs fool you, power delivery matters more than a peak number on the dyno. For the price its a great the 07 is a great bike. My 2023 690 SMCR was a little dissapointing. The powerband is focused in the upper rpm, which sucks for a bike that is suppossed to be a supermoto and not something meant to go fast in a straight line. Instead it just feels too much like a 690 duke instead of a supermoto and thats the most disapointing thing about it. If you want a SM I strongly suggest sticking to a proper SM instead of a street bike disguising itself as one. If the bike didn't call itself a Sm I might have a different opinion of it since it would fall into the naked bike category. Unless youre looking to get into actual Supermoto: meaning the motorsport that combines road racing, dirt track and MX into one sport and also want to ride the same bike on the highways often, the 690 is a weird option. Also I have had allot of reliability and quality issues with my 690 in the 4700 miles I have ridden it. The 07 has been bullet proof for the 67k miles I have ridden it. I worked as a mechanic for 10 years and we had many of those lc4 ktm engines destroy themselves. I cannot say the same for the Yamaha CP2 engine. I wish Yamaha would put that CP2 engine into a wr450f frame. It would be awesome.
@Alien992.28 ай бұрын
I agree on the MT-07 reliability. Not on the other stuff tho. I owned a 07 and changed it for a 690. ECU mapping airbox mod and the 690 is such a fun bike. Way lighter and more torque. Better suspension, better brakes. I can literally do everything on this bike, i couldnt on the 07. Light off-roading, track, skids and jumps. Yeah try that on the MT07. The MT-07 is a good beginner bike and a good bike to keep and drive around in the city and twisties. If you want a performance supermoto with long oil intervals, i dont think you can look past the 690.

@@Alien992.2 My 450 runs circles around my 690 in every way, so I cannot relate to your feeling on its performance as a supermoto. Its horribly slow on a supermoto track due to the size and weight and the power being focused in the upper rpm makes it feel gutless down low. Hurts its performance coming out of a corner and in the dirt sections. If you want a street bike disguised as a SM then I understand where you are coming from. For me I prefer my supermotos to be good at what they are named after. to each their own I suppose. Not to mention you have had to spend almost double the money to make it perform that way over a 07. Seat Concepts seems to have a monopoly on seats for these bikes....to Canada, the XL comfort is $800. Someone needs to add some more affordable competition. Or lobby KTM to give a better seat in the first place. Seat Concepts has likely made a fortune of these bikes. Alternatively, you can get a Chinese version of the Airhawk and add gel or honeycomb foam and you've got yourself a solution to the long ride pain. Get the square Airhawk, and don't use the air bladder as you will lose all feedback to the bike...which is dangerous IMO. Might be ok for a cruiser bike, but not a Supermoto where you have to move around.

It all boils down to what are you uaing the bike for. Mission drives gear. My personal preference, if i could only have one bike, would be the smcr. But that is comparing them in a vacuum. And i dont want just one bike lol

I thought this might happen. Bye bye MT-07 , Hello KTM 690 SMC R! 😂

I have a '23 690 SMCR. Great bike. You say you want to tour on yours. No freaking way I could do that. It's a hooligan bike. Highway riding on it sucks. I also have a '22 KTM 890 Duke R and '23 Suzuki GSX-1000GT+. If you want a really sporty touring bike get the Suzuki GSX1000GT+ or a Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX. I had the kawi also. The GSX is basically a comfortable GSXR. Just my suggestion. You do you. Keep the videos coming.

I’ll be looking forward to all the “My KTM is in the shop AGAIN” videos. 😂😂 I’m just playin’! Food for thought: manufacturers oil change interval recommendations are only to get you through the warranty period. If you plan on keeping it long term, cut those manufacturer intervals in half. Real talk though, you might want to hold on to that MT-07.

I wonder if just the gearing is different, 690 has 15/46, mt07 has 16/43. That means the mt07 should have more low end.

All this hype about Japanese reliability is becoming a bit to much tedious, ad nauseum. Yes, some people want long term reliability. But, some just want a feel good bike for the now, the present. You will not be riding your 200,000 mile bike in your grave, and you will have missed out on some awesome bikes, too. And, also, the reliabilty of the European brands have come up really well of late. An interesting fact is that nobody buys a Ferrari for reliabilty, but get get a Toyota Corolla.

It depends how short, there are chicks about as short as 5'4" that ride supermotos like a boss. You only need one foot to hold the bike up at stops.

@@markaldersey2663 I mean, when i was 5'6'' i rode a Derbi Senda, seat height 900mm.. It's ''only'' 15mm taller.. You could lower it a tiny bit? Is possible. Different seat maybe Edit: 16 years Old
