Yep, I got from a Honda Monkey to a zx14r. I have 4 bikes under 400cc and 2 over 1000cc. 6 days a week I prefer to use my small nimble bikes. High revving is much more fun too!

I'M WITH YOU MAN!!! I had a 2001 ZX6-E and a 2006 R1 and a 750 cruiser and guess what.. I sold them. I'm going back to a 2006 Ninja 250 today that i'm happily paying 2 grand for tonight with only 3k miles. I never had as much fun to this day as I did on my first bike.. a ninja 250. I could care less what anybody thinks.. the point of riding should be enjoyment.

Hey CC, I followed your teachings and saved my money. Last week I paid CASH ($4,000) for a used 2009 Yamaha Vstar 1300. Only 9,000 miles and in also show room condition. Put new tires on it yesterday and it rides like new. Windshield, bags, low seat height, belt drive, liquid cooled. If you want a cruiser this one is hard to beat. Has all the stuff you need and 45 mpg. You steered us right CC. Now I have a great bike and NO PAYMENTS. All my cash can go into riding and upkeep (what little this bike will need). Pay Cash, Ride Safe, and Have Fun. That's what motorcycles are all about.

Being someone who is 5'5" small bikes are great. I love my 07 Rebel 250, 65+mpg, check the chain every 600-700 miles, oil change every 3000 miles and I've never been pulled over cause the speedometer is 3-4 mph off so 70 is like 66 that and insurance is dirt cheap

Agree with your points about the tiddler class (250cc or less). Fun, lightweight, not too much power to get you 'over your head', unless you push the limits. Never been a big fan of high power big bore bikes. With speed cameras, big fines, police enforcement increasing nowadays. It's not worth it. My younger brother on the hand, couldn't get enough of riding the big bores. He's had the roadbikes (ZZR), adventure bikes (Tenere 1200). Always pushed me to 'go big !!' for riding. Never felt comfortable about it. I currently own a KLR650 (soft power) to do backroad adventure rides, poking along at a relaxed pace to enjoy it. However, that's my current limit. Now that my brother and I are both are advancing in age towards our 60's, big heavy bikes nowadys don't fit in the picture as much. I relieved my stern reluctance to 'go big, justified my stubbornness in the mindset I had. We are now looking at lightweight dualsport bikes, in response to not being as strong in our youthful days, as to lifting heavy bikes. As much as my brother and I like the KLR650, it's still an elephant (weightwise) to pick up by yourself should it go onto its side. My philosophy has always been, if you cannot use 75% available power of your bike on the road most of the time, you've wasted your money. I'm thankful I have never come off my bike on the road, off road many times with scrapes and bruising. All part of what motorcycles are. A test of what man can do with a machine he uses. Safely.

My GSX-R750 is my first bike and it’s definitely fast enough for the streets. I don’t think I’ll ever get a ‘faster’ bike because you’re right - it’s not necessary. I might get a higher cc bike like those BMW cruisers or whatever but not for the speed.

My Grom is hands down the most fun bike I've ever ridden/owned BUT it is definitely a toy and not really what I'd call a 'real' motorcycle. It was an amazing commuter when I just had to ride about 8 miles to work but now that I'm commuting more like 25-30 on the freeway and the Grom is out of the question and is basically just a weekend stunt toy

650cc is the magic number, always has been. You can easily keep up with traffic here in the USA, including interstates. Below 650cc you might struggle and above 650 well it's just extra.

The new Ninja 400 or the old discontinued Ninja 500 or the cbr500r is good enough for the interstates as well, most 650s will slightly exceed 125mph which is not necessary

I would’ve kept my Z125 if I didn’t move out of the city. It was a blast to ride around a place where you barely ever go above 45mph. It’s not much fun on country roads especially when you feel like the engine is going to melt in between your legs cruising at 55mph.

I've got a 2012 Husqvarna Nuda 900 R and a 2019 Honda Monkey 125, both make me smile, both are great fun to ride. It's not about showing off, it's not about having the most horsepower or torque, it's not about having all the newest bells and whistles. It's about enjoying yourself, it's about how the bike makes you feel when you ride it. It makes no difference if people don't agree with your choice of bikes. You have nothing to prove. I would consider myself a below average rider, try to improve my skills, I don't measure myself against others in terms of riding ability or the bikes they do and don't ride. I do it for my enjoyment, that's it.

@Lassi Kinnunen correct the Monkey is expensive and I had to sleep on it before buying it, but it makes me smile, so up to me :-) hipster or not I don't care, "King Kong" is mine 😎 The PCX 150 we had was wonderful also, bought second hand, great bike, more powerful, more practical, but also heavier. Though for smile factor the Monkey wins every time.

I agree Chris Travels, but at the end of the day majority of guys do purchase bikes as a pure status simple. I myself, as I have gotten older, have realised who cares what people think, the feeling is better when you get what you really want rather than worrying what others will say or think. If purchased as a status I question if they even like bikes, any enthusiast I think will agree with you and I... and Cruza. I too have a monkey bike, and like what has been said, that potentially is a show off bike as I believe it’s the most expensive bike in the 125 class, or there abouts. But please, I purchased it for the pure looks. It’s an insanely good looking mini bike! That’s why I bought it, the rest is a bonus.

Sincerely, a 400 to 650cc is really all one needs as far as 60mph consistent travel, legit. Ninja 400 barely starts straining the slightest at 65 mph, most of your 650cc bikes ( versus 650, ninja 650, vulcan 650 s for example) don't feel the strain until the 75 or 80's. I'm about to order a 2019 cb500x ( 471cc) and where my rebel 300 ( a 286cc engine) would strain bigtime at 55mph, the cb500x must be pushed to about 85 to strain the same. I'm happy just cruising between 55 to 65 on streets, but I can take it on some light offroading.

I think you make a mistake putting the Acerbis Headlight on that bike. The way it mounts to the bike via straps is junk. I put it on my drz400sm and quickly took it off and returned it.

I recently bought a 2002 drz400s and cheap. Everything is great fun except for a wreck in the woods cause my shoulder a severe pain. I don't know how I will be able to ride the r1 next summer. I even joined a member only offroad club.

But he wasn't just talking about off road/Dual use bikes... He is also talking about sports bikes. No one on the street needs a 1000+ CC bike. 600 is more than enough. Hell even a 400 might be better on the street. You can have all the fun going up through the gears and still have enough top end to go n the highway!

i live in scotland and have ridden bikes for 10years, my zx10r is by far the easiest bike i’ve ridden on the roads, theres plenty of power if and when i need it, it’s a bit heavier so it feels more planted in the twistys inspiring confidence, but i 100% agree that on a track i’d prefer and get more out of a 600cc

I've got slow bikes but I feel much more vulnerable on them in the streets. I only ride them in the mornings on weekends. I don't take them on busy roads and definitely not highways. Too many fast cars try to bully me on slow bikes. Nobody tries me on my sportbike
