Ya, that should be done by the dealership when taking ownership of the bike. They charge enough for prep fee’s, it should be part of the prep prior to you leaving the dealership.

Anyhow I rode it back to NJ from Lancaster wasn’t a bad ride home , but man when I loaded me and the wife on I knew something was wrong . I did the same thing read the manual and wow 40mm adjustment !! . She rides perfect now . Thanks for your excellent videos !

@@midwestvenom1 I agree that the service dept should handle, but those requests need to come from the salesman handling your deal as the service dept still needs to get their mechanics paid, regardless of who is paying. The salesman handling you should grease all the departments for you though (to your point) to make sure the bike is ready for you. Every time I buy a new touring model, I try to get at least one thing from each dept for free.

Your salesperson should have told you to adjust the shocks as soon as you got home. I agree with others below that it should be part of the pick-up process. I added a chopped tour-pak to my new CVO and had to add another 15mm to my weight according to the chart. So the tour-pak was more mm's than my weight. It seems to be working well for now.

John, This is one of the absolute BEST upgrades you can perform on your new bike: Give George Quay or DJ Korzen a call. They are the owners of PRO ACTION Suspension in Beaver Falls, PA. Order a pair of their FABULOUS rear shock absorbers….. and install them on your bike ASAP. This will make a great upgrade video on your channel…… but beyond that you will not believe just how GREAT these shocks are until you try them. Of my 40+ years wrenching on Harleys…… these shocks are hands down BETTER than even Ohlins…… guaranteed. Tell them that J. Mac sent you!!! 😎🍀🇺🇸🇺🇸

Hey my guy! Love the video. I’ve got a 24’ cvo street glide with about 2500 miles on it. I’m a suspension fanatic. I live in Arizona and the roads are all bad here. I set my bike to what the owners manual said and I felt the back end still bottom out in some areas and areas where the asphalt had erosion the bike would become very deflective. I ended up adding 50lbs of preload and found that plus loosening the dampening a click or two made the bike handle small square bumps much better and g-outs as well. Made the bike feel very balanced front to back. Thanks for the video!!!

Hi John, thanks for this detailed video…. I bought the Kemimoto Delux Cup Holder last week from Amazon, to my door in less than two days, great…. Install did not go well. The tightening long screw pulled right out of the round through piece as I tried to tighten the knob. The round through piece had not been threaded deep enough to hold the bolt. I had to redrill the piece and retread it to properly take the bolt. You are not the complaint dept but perhaps Kemimoto needs to know. Thanks I like the Cup Holder.

This is an excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate how to adjust both the right and left shock. I just bought a 2024 Street Glide and this weekend we put about 500 miles on it and I felt as though my spine would compress with each bump in the road. It was painful. I'm about 250lbs and mine wasn't set for anyone that size. The dealer should probably ask that question and at least pre-set them at the same time they are setting up the key fob.

Thanks for video John , definitely needs adjustment after delivery . So maybe dumb ? But if your a 50/50 rider passenger rider and adjusted for both weights , what happens when you don’t have a passenger and don’t change adjustment ??As this is a pain in the a** to do every time you change weight . I just adjusted for me and a passenger , I only had set for myself with no gear or extra passenger and was bottoming out almost always . 😮

I had the same question. I set mine for a bit heavy on the right side and when wife rides; I adjust the dial on the left by hand basically all the way up. I'm not sure that's the right way - but that's my plan.
@nevillegreg18 ай бұрын
Amazing! Folks that have been riding for a million years don't check the preload before going out on a ride on their new bikes or after loading the bike up with significant different loads - sorry but you should have known this already, especially being into the 'performance' bagger thing. And more amazing is that for a so-called premium brand/model like HD tourer, still in 2024, requires a tool to adjust pre-load. At least none of this is necessary on a truly premium model like the Pan America S as the bike adjusts preload/ rebound automatically for you, including when loads change - and of course, also changes suspension settings to match changes in the ride modes (eg. going to Sports mode also stiffens the suspension as well) - and yes, you can override the change from controls on the handlebars. I know, not everyone wants to ride a trail bike, even though the PAm is a great sports/tourer with just about all the modern tech and truly premium. And I haven't mentioned, 150hp out of the box.

I bought a RG CVO Saturday and paid $995 service fee. I didn't even make it home and the front tire low pressure light came on. Then I found out about the shocks needing adjusting. Mine too had no preload at all and the rebound adjustment was on the softest setting. Not good for a 260 lb rider. I got everything squared away myself even though the dealership should have done it since he charged me for setup. I did call the dealership and told them about both issue and that they need to do better in the future.

One thing to note. In the manual on page 48, note 5 instructs to add a preload distance of .59” to accommodate the weight of the tour pak. Then use the left side knob for cargo weight. My tour pak stays off most of the time but for an upcoming trip, I will use it. If I understand the manual, I set the right side for my weight + .59” and then adjust the left side knob for my gear and luggage.

Setting up the sag is absolutely the 1st thing anyone should do on a motorcycle. However if you are bottoming out you may need a stiffer spring.
@cmdr.sypher18204 ай бұрын
My ST came set for 250lb rider. Set my sag about 30mm. And it was 8 mm I’m 195lb. The front forks were not even the same preload on one fork was 4 turns the other a little under 5 lol. Harley says the dealer should work with purchaser to get this shit right at delivery. Never happened on mine even after I said something. After setting bike was much better still setting dampening empirically.

I believe the answer to my question is no, but figured Id ask anyway. Will this mod I suggest adversely affect YOUR product ?
