Nice to see a Whyte bike being serviced! The bike I'm working on is a UK Marin, which I believe was made in the UK by the people who became Whyte when Marin was bought out and became crap. Since then I have bought - and loved - a couple of Whyte bikes.

Similarly, using planks of wood and a hammer to fit the cups might not provide the right precision and could cause the cups to sit unevenly, affecting the headset's performance. Using the proper tools, like a headset press and cup remover, ensures a clean, secure fit, preventing potential damage to both the frame and the headset components.
