Kidneys are one of the important organs that helps in body regulation and it is exceptionally important when it comes to cycling, or any kind of endurance sport
Does cycling cause kidney failure? Why is rhabdomyolysis always associated with spinning/cycling? how do we properly hydrate ourselves while riding? drinking too little water and too much water both are causing problems. can patients having kidney failure take up cycling? can people having single kidney take up cycling?
I Interviewed a nephrologist, Dr Thye Yuen Lin, who is also a cyclist, to answer the questions.

This is great.✨️.simple short and very informative..worth sharing to those out there who not only like cycling but aslo those who likes heavy sports. Care of kidney is very important and it is good to at least have an idea even towards the little sign like pain so early prevention can be taken.❤️i love this interview..keep it up.

Thanks for doing this! Hoping to see more of these ❤. I too pop the electrolyte tab in my bottle as I have been told that can prevent muscle cramps, but it has little effect on me. I am trying magnesium tabs and rubbing perskindol cool gel on my thigh and calf muscles before each ride, so far it seems to help. Got to manage it and be mindful on energy output every ride.

cheaper option would be get a bottle of ribena (concentrated), then mix it with water according to the sweetness of your liking and add one/two pinch of sea salt.

haha dr thye told me she makes her own electrolyte drink too by blending orange and adding salt. whichever suit us as long as we know we are getting sufficient electrolytes for our rides. knowledge is power! 💪

Does low sodium level lead to cardiac arrest?

Sodium is important for muscle function. So having too low sodium can affect muscle including cardiac muscle. Talk to your cardiologist if you have concerns about this. 🙏🏻

Hi, it really depends on how well you can tolerate. before i pick up cycling, i was rather active and sporty but i could only do 15km-20km on my very first ride. it really depends on your fitness level. would advise you to go with a friend whom you can trust and cycle in places that are safe to do rounds or laps - like in your neighbourhood.
