Library tribal is funny. Pretty much all the scrolls, tomes, etc. are artifacts so Codie would probably be used as moral support in the Command Zone.

If you wanted to you could have Zirda, the Dawnwaker as your companion! Obviously you’d have to cast it before Codie hits the field, but it will reduce the cost of Codie’s ability. And since cycling is also an activated ability, you can reduce those costs, sometimes to the point of free!

"Abilities you activate **that aren’t mana abilities** cost {2} less to activate." Codie's ability is a mana ability, so Zirda does not work with him. Also Zirda can't make anything free: "This effect can’t reduce the mana in that cost to less than one mana", so no cycling for free.

jeskai ascendency + codie is a match made in heaven. instead of just cascading once per turn you get to cascade after each spell.

@@justinshatto5053 1. Tap Codie 2. Cast an instant or sorcery 3. Jeskai ascendency triggers, untapping Codie. 4. Repeat by casting the cascaded spell.

@@GarrettKearns You just have to get Jeskai Ascendancy in play before you play Codie. So, that's basically a near infinite combo. You tap Codie and gain 5 mana. You cast a 1 mana spell, draw cards, untap Codie. Since you have 4 mana left, you tap Codie again for a net of 1 mana to cast another 1-mana spell, which you most likely have then do it again. I guess it stops if you ever don't have a 1 mana spell to cast. Add Song of Creation for more fun.

The delayed triggered ability created by Codie’s second ability will resolve before the spell that caused it to trigger. That ability will resolve even if the spell is countered or otherwise doesn’t resolve. I thought this would be important to note regarding Faithless Looting and cards like it.

I'm building a Reading Rainbow deck with the Prismatic Bridge as commander, playing exactly codie and worldspine wurm as nonland permanents in the deck. My only one mana spells are djeru's resolve, emerald charm, dream grip, twiddle, chain stasis, claim the firstborn, and serene remembrance. This way, when i cast a 2 drop off of codie's ability, i always cascade into a spell that can untap codie for another activation, or into serene remembrance to shuffle the other one drops back into the library. With lots of copy spells to stack multiple codie activations, and lots of other 2 drops. The bookwurm plan just gives the bridge something to do every turn. If I can sacrifice it to a costly plunder or fling effect consistently, the bridge can keep playing it out of my deck every turn.

First upgrade I did to this deck was to replace Defiant Strike with Pull from Eternity after the deck got shut down with a Render Silent when I was trying to go off. The Codie effect trigger still pulls Living End, which is then trapped in exile forever.

My Codie/Living End deck features Peer Into the Abyss, which makes you draw half your deck and pay half your life. It's a great way to get whatever hand you want and dump a lot of creatures into the graveyard at the same time.

Note that when you cast brainstorm Codies trigger will resolve first, so you either have to cast brainstorm before you cast the other spell. Or preferably as a response to the trigger. The reason you'd want to cast it as a response is, lets say that you either; don't have an extra blue for brainstorm, or have only 4 mana available to you activate Codies ability. I'm sure there's a few more reasons but in the most common cases this is true. Also Codies ability also you to use it for cycling since it doesn't say to only use it to cast instant/sorceries. I'd also suggest the other brainstorm type effects for consistency. Edit: Sorry, just got to the part where he speaks about more brainstorm effects but the points still stand. Also have a good day!

This could work, but you could hit living end after casting any spell with a mana cost above 1. I really wish his ability only let you get a spell with a cmc of 1 less then the spell you just cast. That would make him much better.

Mitch I love your content, but damn it man. I had a janky cycle deck from ikoria that I was going to rebalance with Codie at the helm for exactly this combo. I was so excited for this combo but now I know that the first time I sit down with this deck someone's going to be like "oh so it's just the commander's quarters deck" and that is just super disheartening when you're kind of banking on the element of surprise so that people don't pithing needle living end or remove your graveyard in response to activating Codie off an Opt or something. This is not the first time this has happened. As I said I love your videos but leave some good (budget) ideas out there for the rest of us to discover XD

Pithing Needle is ineffective at stopping this combo. It would stop you from Suspending Living End, but would not affect hitting it with Codie's ability. Codie's ability is a mana ability, so it also cannot be shut off with Pithing Needle.

I really like Cordie as you can have basically a one-card combo with him if you have Entomb and a creature in hand. By entombing Razaketh then you get Living End off of Cordie's ability and then cast the 1 mana creature sac it to Razaketh to get life // Death cast it sac a land to get Dockside sac land to get Emiel to make infinite mana cast Cordie sac him to get an x spell.

I like the design of commander decks, build around a single non-commander card. Unlike other decks, where you feel like a pilot who controls a complicated machine with different options, these decks look like auto-piloted, and you feel like playing a little bit another game.

There were a number of cards that drew and also returned to deck (top and bottom) cards from hand. The idea is to spin into it, and if you draw it, spin it out (or get it into your graveyard where a number of spells shuffle it back into library).

My one issue with this kind of strategy is its pretty janky and manages to be weak to both targeted removal AND boardwipes. It's pretty much boom or bust and likely to bust. But that said, you technically CAN play your permanents until codi comes down, and if you wanted, you can run the same companion that mitch ran with kenrith.
