Thank you for presenting this video. I have lived in Brisbane all my life and never heard of this ride. I'm a keen cyclist and now am motivated to do it. Thank you once again for a informative and educational program.

If you go to fitlers rest and follow the trails through the bush there is a sick opening to a range of different scenery. Definitely recommend trying

Great video with description. Did it a couple days ago from Yarraman too fernvale. Slept at Linville one night, then Esk. Great fun. Make sure to stop at blackbutt and fernvale bakery! Amazing food 👌

I never got to work this branchline as it closed before I ever thought of joining QR. The start of the line is towards the western end of Wulkaraka where the high voltage power lines run. If you were interested to see one of the last railway tours up the Brisbane Valley. Mike Condon produced a video called "Tracks In The Sun" cheers and Merry Christmas from Emerald.

Good video mate. Done this trail a couple of time but not since the Moore to Toogoolawah section was completed, I am keen to go back and do it all again now. Looks like a lot more concrete now too, bit of a shame.

definently a lot more concrete now, but still a lot of gravel grinding fun to be had. Thanks for the support mate!

Great Video Mate. Looks like you had fun. Any Considerations for Puncture Protection? E.g. Tubeless Sealant

Hey mate. I just carried spare tubes / patch kit / tire levers. I didn't get a flat at all, and found that the trail surface was actually really good and I rarely worried about getting a puncture

Oh WOW! What a lot of sugar-floss applied there! We rode this trail from Blackbutt to Wulkaraka in 2018 and all in our group agreed that it is the 'Great Queensland Joke'. You really gloss over its huge flaws in comparison with any of the rail-trails in Victoria. - 20% gully dips and climbs on narrow concrete paths - about 5-6 of them between Benarkin and Linville. - the interminable latched swing-gates which require dismounting to close or open; in two sections FOUR gates in ONE kilometre. - persistent steep climbs and descents while the road alongside is FLAT (it is a railway line FFS!) - routinely a very rough trail surface, not fine gravel but more often looking like just compacted railway ballast. - two barrier gates that were clearly designed to enable horses to step over, but made it impossible for people with fully-loaded touring bikes to get through, unless you removed all of the panniers. - a trail-head at Wulkaraka that drops you in a deserted station, with few stopping trains, and 5 kms of hostile main road to get to Ipswich Station. I will NOT be back.

Hey mate! looking at doing this trail with a friend. I'm fairly fit and have trail riding experience but my partner doesn't so much. How would you rate the difficulty for them? And if you had to take a stab at your total riding time, what would you say you did?
@rileymalt

Hey Hana, Honstly the trail is pretty easy going. Being ex-railway you will struggle to find a gradient larger than 5degree, besides the creek crossings. Hardest part is just long distance riding. On that note, i probably did around 8 hour riding days, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. Enjoy!

Thanks mate, the entire length of the trail is very flat with little gradient as it is ex railway. There are however some steep Creek crossings, yet most are now concreted and designed to be dismounted and walked. The main challenge i found was covering large distance throughout the day, but the trail can be split into a 3 day route to make it easier. Hope this helps!
