Hey! We actually had not a single flat tire! YES! The head lights on my bicycles in the video are two "Edelux I" from SON (Schmidts Original Nabendynamo - YES - it's the name of the company!). By now I've replaced the two "Edelux I" by one "Edelux II" :-) Viele Grüße aus Hamburg!

LOVE this video. I want to do this soon. Is July a good time? Also did you bring your own bikes or rent? If you rented can you give me contact info? How about accomodations? Easy to find on a daily basis? Any planning info appreciated...thx..
@soundZ9 жыл бұрын
Yes, July is a good time for traveling in that region. We brought our own bikes. I think it's impossible to rent bikes for traveling in Tadshikistan or Kirgistan. We had our accomodation with us: our tent :-) There are SOME accomodations along the route, but not enough... so I wouldn't recommend to go there without a tent.
@techwise713610 жыл бұрын
Did you arrange this yourself or did you have a guide with you? I am going to be in Kyrgystan for a few years and this is a must do for me? Did you rent these bikes there or are they yours? Any info appreciated. Love this video!!

Hey Joao, have a look at the 2nd part of our video: Cycling the Pamir Highway (M41) - Kyrgyzstan Dushanbe: June 28th Osh: July 16th :-) We had some technical problems with my rear derailleur (took us one day), we stayed 2 days in Khorugh and I think there were 2 more days withous cycling because of stomach upset :-/

Awesome video - I'm looking for a video solution like this. How do you attached the camera on the bike and how do you get it that steady? GoPro, i assume... Is it possible to do this solo, have you done a lot of camping?
@soundZ8 жыл бұрын
Hello Jürgen, no it's no a Gopro this time. I don't like the GoPro case... it's ugly :) You can find all the components in use in this google doc. It took me some time to figure out what works best. However: My solution is not exactly what people would call "lightweight" :) docs.google.com/document/d/1nV_MIW1BXvvyZygWrv7lwv2Yf6GsssvtXxRvezlJiJQ/edit?usp=sharing I think it's possible to do this tour solo. Yes.
@nuenn8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, "lightweight is overrated" ;-) - Thanks for the Contour 3 hint, I've found the gopro to wide, with an annoying batterylife. May i ask you for an equipment list ? ... and two Edelux ??? 8-)
@soundZ8 жыл бұрын
I replaced the two Edelux I with one Edelux II - as you can see in the Iran video for example:) The Contour ROAM3 is a good camera, but I think Contour LLC is dead:-( They don't produce new cameras and the last update on their website is exactly two years old. The ROAM3 has an internal battery, because of this I'm always on tour with two (or three) Cameras. One replacement camera instead of replacement batteries. Strange new world! :) And I have a small camcorder with me - for all the other shots... so it's a lot of equipment.

Amazing video! I have a question though: is the part by Afghanistan safe? And could you swim in the Panj if you wanted to?
@soundZ7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The boder to Afgahnastan was safe at daytime in 2013. You see, my information about the situation there is quite old and useless today. Swimming in the Panj River: I wouldn't reccomend this. First: It's a border river and you might get in trouble. Second: It's a quite strong and fast flowing river - you have to be quite a good swimmer. And third: I guess it's pretty dirty - you might get ill and that's no fun! However: There are some small lakes beside the river. You can swim there!
