When you're in Flanders in Belgium its fine to speak Dutch - it is their first language after all ;-) Just don't try it in Wallonia - French will prevent blank looks then...

I was going to say the same, 30km was still Flanders

In flanders we speak Dutch as well. They understood that perfectly ;-). I hope at least somebody responded with "You're welcome". And it's true what you mention about the bumpy cycling lanes. We've been complaining about those all our life. Somehow the Dutch know how to do this better.

Depending on which part of Belgium you are in, "Dank u wel" / "Dank je wel" works perfectly fine, the Flandrian parts speak Dutch, the Wallonian parts do not (secretly they do, but will never admit it 🙂)

@5:32: that looks like the Duvel factory / depot, a great Belgian landmark, but indeed at that time you are discussing Belgian roads / cycling paths and these can be horrendous indeed. There was this huge (not kidding!) pothole on the E19? going South to France 19 years ago. It scared the hell out of me. Last time we went o France (2019), IT WAS STILL THERE! Halfway through Belgium, a song pops up into my head every time... Its is Mike Oldfield: "Never going to get to France"...

When you are riding that long. What is the average speed of your bikes. I am new to cycling and my average speed is around 17-18 kmph and avg cadence of 67, which I have maintained for maximum of 3 hours non-stop in almost flat road. Haven't yet tried longer than that. While I am riding I have seen people just breeze past me effortlessly, I don't know how long have they cycled in that speed. But it felt like I need to improve my speed and endurance so that's why I want to know what speeds and cadence should I expect to maintain when riding long.
