Happy Canada Day Johnny nice ride again be careful with those people walking on the bike path thanks.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Of course I'm careful around people on the paths, at no point would I put a pedestrian in danger (if they do something stupid like step out in front of a moving bike without looking that's on them...). Ideally these shared paths should not exist, cyclists and pedestrians need to be on separate paths IMO as when it's busy it gets far too crowded to safely accommodate both.
@liamliam71914 жыл бұрын
I just started riding again after taking a 15 years hiatus and looking at your videos we take similar paths, I hope to bump into you some day since you and other youtubers inspired me to get out and explore the hidden gems in our city.

Johnny, found your video's few days ago, we watch about 3 daily, this one absolutely woke me up big time after seeing another video about walking downtown on a Friday night, great video too, but I don't stay up late anymore. Plus I don't get out with a bad leg so the video's are amazing for me, and for so many others not getting out, LOVE the narrated video's, and the CC is appreciated by many. Thank you for doing what you do. There's a great little park with a few houses just North of Riverdale Park, and going through that zoo during the Cabbagetown Festival seeing that river and the bridges, it's amazing. This video will certainly bring Memories back for my Dad who used to bike from Jackson's Point to Waterfront and swim in the Don later 40's early 50's. I do miss the CC in some video's though, I need some kind of earplug to be hooked to the TV for those ones. The 2 most interesting streets for newbies to Toronto, Queen Street, and Mt. Pleasant. We watch KZbin with Netflix, WAYYYY more interesting than any TV shows, I wish more would just watch educational and informational KZbin. Where the Viaduct overcrossing the Valley they used to swim there, and called it Bareassed Beach, that's what the older senior told me. His brother biked from Barrie to Keswick.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Great comments and thanks for sharing! I think the CC should improve a bit as I've since started using a better microphone in my newest videos. Glad you find these of value and you're right about KZbin, I watch it more than Netlfix & Prime these days too!

I was a bike courier in Toronto in the late 90s and when I wasn't working I loved to ride the mountain bike trails that were all through the Don Valley. Just make sure your dog doesn't go in the Don river. Mine did , lost all its fur and almost died.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
That's neat. I saw a documentary about Toronto bike couriers that I think was from either the 90's or early 2000's. It was pretty fascinating. Good advice about keeping the pups away from the river. Thanks!

Hey Johnny, is that a KHS Urban Soul single speed you are riding? I have the same bike (2015 model). Love it.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Indeed it is, it's either a 2014 or 2015 model as well. I've rode the crap out of it, of all the bikes I've ever owned (including some rather expensive road bikes) this is my favourite. I bought mine in 2015 (but it might be a year older model wise). Who needs gears anyway?
@timothyli7584 жыл бұрын
I recognize the headset and grips, which are same as mine. I bought the 2015 model in 2016 at Bateman. You are a strong rider 👍. I saw you stop and continue in the middle of the uphill ramp at Seaton Park. This is hard with a SS. I usually have to gather a lot of momentum and can barely make it.

I was anticipating something like that happen. Anytime there's a narrow, blind turn like that it's best to be prepared. Sure enough some idiot was barreling down the middle of the bridge instead of keeping to his right... I really want to know what's going through the heads of others who are so oblivious to everything around them they'll pull stupid crap like that and not learn their lesson the first time they almost kill someone. Oh well.

@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
It's an automatic thing, youtube scans your videos and if there's a copyright match based on the music you will either not be allowed to make the video public or give up all ad revenue to the copyright holder. It's easy enough to edit out, just annoying to re-upload and fix it. It happens to anyone who makes videos like this.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
Uploadng someone else's music on YT is like a child taking candy from a stranger. I appreciate the offer but that's a big no-no for KZbinrs. The rights holder will often turn around and copyright strike the channel and claim their revenue. I'd only be comfortable using a paid service.

That trail is more hair raising that the city streets. So many people all over the trail, riding on the wrong side or two abreast, just standing around adjusting their shorts or walking bikes. Hehe. No awareness whatsoever. Also, people pushing such a hard gear that their swaying momentum makes them stray into the middle of the trail as you pass! I don't know if they know how their gears work, or if they are broken or just can't be bothered to change gear.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
ha, great observations and on point. I think gears are a mystery to a lot of people who own geared bikes. I switched to a single speed when I got this bike but I certainly understand how to use them (and not be a jackass on the trails).

It looks like a proper cycle path, lots of bikes, not sure it's really suitable for pedestrians.
@JohnnyStrides4 жыл бұрын
100% agree, but the city calls it a "recreational trail" and even though there's a sidewalk that runs alongside it (and often boardwalks in the beach area) people still insist on walking on it... it's not properly thought out IMO.

waterfront area and the lakeshore area is effing nuts. especially the weekends. normal people, males and females, turn into neanderthals. ride defensively. always yield. look over your shoulders. make eye contact. when riding near cars treat all cars as if there are people ready to get out. always.
