Hello Werner and many thanks for watching and following along. Wow we just watched this one again! It's crazy that this was only about 5 months ago and now here we are in Mexico still working our way south. It's been one heck of a ride so far and all is good. Cheers from Mexico, Ron & Petra!

@@rex758 at the moment we not exactly sure of our route going through Central America. If we stick to our current plan, after Guatemala, we'll cycle through El Salvador and touch the bottom of Honduras before entering Nicaragua. However, this is some time from now. At the moment we are staying put in our current location until after Christmas and then we'll be back at it. Taking is slow. ~Ron

Haha. Hallo Technoviel.

Great videos. I planned to do something similar last year then COVID hit, so am planning for next year. Starting in Deadhorse, to Fairbanks, then East into Canada and make my way down to the start of the great divide mountain bike route and follow that to Mexico. Debating about flying into Fairbanks and taking the bus to deadhorse just in case I have any bike damage on the flight, but after watching this video and a couple others I may just change it and fly into deadhorse. Figure if anything major gets damaged that I can't fix, there will be bike shops in Fairbanks, but I think I'll take the small risk and fly directly into deadhorse. Anyway, great videos...learning a lot about places to camp and the general landscape.

Hello Figaro! Yeah our plan was to start also last summer (2020) but COVID messed that up. We also planned on cycling through Canada after arriving in Fairbanks; however, the US/Canada border was closed when we flew to Deadhorse so we committed to taking the Alaskan ferry from Valdez/Whittier to Bellingham, Wa. This is fine because we are now thinking down the road to start at the top of Dempster Highway and cycle down the Great Divide too. If you ask us, we would suggest to just fly into Deadhorse and start from there. Personally, if we took a bus or shuttle north and then cycled back down, that would have probably been a huge motivation killer. Unless of course you go full on CIA style and have a darkened blackout hood over your head so you can't see what you're in for. :-) We just posted this on our BLOG yesterday and you may find some of the information useful. Please check it out. Thank you for following along and happy adventures to you. ~Ron & Petra | The Dalton Highway Blog entry: pedalpowertouring.com/general/bicycle-touring-the-dalton-highway/

How much money have you budgeted for the trip? How many miles do you average per day? I'm planning on starting this trip next summer hopefully!
@PedalPowerTouring

Hello Jeff and thanks for the questions. Everyone's budget is different, so we'd rather not get into that here. Some folks we've met get by on $5 a day and others are spending over a $100 a day. However, we did met a young woman a few weeks ago that is saving up to do this trip and she is figuring on $30k a year. She asked us what we thought and if that was good. We told her that is more than what we have budgeted for the two of us. During our last long trip (2013 - 2015), we spent a little more than that for 25 months and it covered everything from flights. trains, visas, shots, etc... We try to get in 40 - 50 miles per day, but there are shorter days and there are longer days. Last night we did 69 miles which for this trip is our longest day yet. During our previous trip (2013 - 2015) we averaged 42 miles per day overall. If you would like shoot me a message at pedalpowertouring@gmail.com - We can get into more details there if you like. Are you planning on cycling from top to bottom or just cycling the Dalton Highway? ~Ron

@@PedalPowerTouring thanks for the in depth response! I look forward to watching every video you upload from this trip and I wish you guys the best of luck! I plan on cycling top to bottom and figure I may be able to do it in 9 months if I really push myself. If not I’ll plan on 15 months because you know as well as I do, you don’t really want to be finishing in the winter months down there. What are your route plans for mainland USA and the rest of the trip?

As a Rum Man I find it quite refreshing as well mixed with just about anything after a hard days work. Not being a Beer man but having lived in Germany I never recalled Radler. So I had to look it up. The story I read corroborated your story. I don't know why I doubted it. Probably never heard of it cause it is associated with bicycling. As in pedal cycles and I'm more associated with Motor Cycling. On a side note. Watching you guys going up and down the Hills, Mountains and Valleys, loaded down with a squad worth of gear strapped to your bikes, I'm comfortable with my decision to not accompany you on your trek. All that gear would have been dragging the ground on my bike.

Hahaha Rudy you’re a funny man! Yes Radler is a real thing! We take our beer serious and would never try and steer our friends wrong! Being a motorcycle guy myself, this would be much easier to do, but me good wife won’t learn how to ride one herself! You are always welcome to travel along if you ever find yourself wanting a good workout! Until then happy motorcycling! ~Ron
