Colin Lewis remembers his teammate Tom Simpson on the anniversary of his death

On the eve of the longest and possibly hardest stage of la centième, Giant of Provence awaits the riders on stage 15. Exactly 47 years ago today Tom Simpson tragically left his life on Mont Ventoux and tomorrow will be the 8th summit finish since that day.
I had the pleasure and honor of interviewing Tom Simpson's roommate during that 1967 Tour de France - fellow British rider Colin Lewis.
On the eve of stage 15 where the Tour finishes on Mont Ventoux after 242 kilometers, Colin takes us through that terrible day when he and Tom Simpson woke up ready to race and only one of them came home. If you have a few spare minutes while watching the échappé flounder for 200km during the stage, I highly recommend you give this a watch.

That's right. It was recorded in 2014 but we just brought it over to KZbin. The story is still timeless though.

Yes he was, at a time when Brits were seen as the under dogs in cycling, he took them on and beat them. On their soil on their terms. He sadly died, wearing the flags of his county on his shoulders.
