Well done, as a cyclist we never know what the driver is thinking, you'll have to forgive the cyclists emotions (since he is nervous with the heavy and large vehicle behind him). If more drivers were as thoughtful and conscientious as you, the roads would be much safer.

Most HGV drivers do try to keep a safe distance and safe planing around cyclists mainly due to drivers are held to account for there actions better than cyclists are held to there's. And are trained. Not to say there are the odd bad but rear HGV driver out there.

You done everything right with the cyclist Luke. They just don't understand how long it takes to overtake when fully loaded. Like you said, he realised in the end and at least he recognised that fact and I have a feeling he was shaking his head at car that over took both of you.

There are many cyclists who dont consider other people, but some of us do. Im very passionate about trucking, it runs in the family and I also cycle on public roads. I always make a habit of pulling over to let vehicles pass, especially trucks. I always try to ride on country roads with very little traffic. Cyclists do have a bad name, but good cyclists do exist and I hope people appreciate us!
@danwok7 жыл бұрын
bishplis do you not understand English? Luke stayed behind because he was fully loaded. It would of took 1/4 mile to overtake. If you can't see far enough ahead and he committed and then something came the other way ,the cyclist would of been in danger. He done the right thing staying behind.
@danwok7 жыл бұрын
What are you getting at? It's doesn't matter what you drive. If you are a twat and dangours then that's that. The important thing here is Luke done everything right to keep the cyclist safe. It's called experienced and consideration for other road users. Not all lorry drivers are arseholes.

Can I simply say I think your a very good truck drive mate! A VERY good truck driver. As a cyclist I find trucks can be scary on the road, and seeing a clip like this (despite the cyclists mood nodding at you), it was very nice and good of you to wait. So thank you! Often cycling if I see built up traffic or a truck I will pull over to let them pass when I can.

Good driving. As with others, he may not have appriciated the distance it would take you to pass safetly. He probably could hear and see it was clear, where as you could not and was "confused" Like others, I too would pull in to let a HGV pass safetly, if I was unnecessarily holding everyone up. Not every trip needs to be a strava segment to beat! Sharetheroad.

cyclist don't like it when a big trucks drive slow behind them because usually they do it to mock them, cycling on the road you have to deal with hecklers people honking for no reason and cars driving very close on purpose. so you were just chilling behind probably giving him a stressful situation

right, disclaimer im a cyclist but im not an inconsiderate muppet with it. he had plenty of options to pull in, spend a little more than 15 seconds to let you pass but no, he tanks off at a rate of knots trying to hold a speed which he thinks helps you to pass and overcooks it, ramps up his heartrate, runs out of steam and then wobbles his head. he should be grateful for the interval session ha :)

James Whyte literally push. I'm in neutral on the breaks. If I brake to hard we both stop, if I don't brake enough the I slide forward (due to weight pushing out) and then I come if the paver meaning tarmac goes all over the floor. They literally push you 👌

He was shaking his head because he also thinks 3 minute segments are kinda short for video editing. BTW. Why on earth isn't there a sign cyclists can ignore the light at 50:10 ? The road is too narrow for 2 cars. But a bicycle and a car is not a problem. They'll be out of the way quicker. And this situation is very recognizable. I indicate they can pass me. Come on then dammit! But then they stick behind me because they need to turn left or or right. I can't see that. Nobody likes cars being stuck behind a cyclist.Including the cyclist himself.

One less cyclist :D No, I made a point of keeping away from him. I was watching him all the time, If he fell of, I'd of stopped in time, Then laughed.
@AlexGreenwoodUkulele7 жыл бұрын
Hehhehe, I think we all would have laughed, to be honest. But yes, some cyclists, like myself, can get a bit fussy with a lorry behind us, and us cyclists can never know if a driver is paying a good amount of attention. There's a difference to how close you can be with paying attention like you were here and if the driver is paying sloppy glances. I'll trust your insight, and besides, no one knows the capabilities of your lorry like you do, so I truly understand where your justification sits. :) Just bear in mind some are very cautious. Three second following gaps are recommended for cyclists and any vehicle, but as long as you know you can stop if he comes off, I'm happy with that. :)
@liamp26197 жыл бұрын
This. I reckon he found it quite stressful having you drive that close behind him. You clearly did the right thing in not overtaking (hence the thanks/thumbs up) but it would have been better and safer to stay a few meters further back and give him more room. Yes you may have stopped but he can't be sure of that and it's really scary being followed closely by an HGV - a cyclist can hit the deck in an instant if the front wheel loses grip or punctures.
@galaxy58017 жыл бұрын
Should've drove over him 😂

We have laws and rules when it comes to motorist and cyclist. If you hit us and run over us we can sue you and throw you in Jail. The Feds has a new law that requires commercial vehicles and all vehicles to approach, pass and clear the cyclist by 3 foot.. So from the looks at everything most motorist would pass the cyclist putting the rider and everyone else in danager and you need to realize that the cyclist is not responsible for the accident you cause.
