Thank you! I am both amazed and ashamed to say that the "short term" gorilla tape extension has been in place for 7 years now with no repair! Granted it only sees a few hours of use a year, but still. Gorilla tape is serious stuff. 😄😄

Seems like a lot of work to use this thing. I also have a X590. I am just using a sweeper with mine. It pivots on the hole in the plate on the tractor, and I don't have any issues with it swinging wide when turning. I also don't have to get off the tractor to dump my load. It has a pull string to dump. No motor, no gas and no extra noise with it. It does a great job for me. My sweeper also has a dethatcher on it. This thing really make keeping up with the yard easy. Love this new model JD. I have a few other accessories for it. 30" mechanical tiller and a 500lb (loaded) plug aerator. Arm rest, brush guard and mulch kit. I have added rear LED running lights to mine. There is a guy on here with a video showing his LEDS. They are installed in the rear reflectors and look OEM installed.

+Ralph L No question, there is some extra work compared to just hooking up a sweeper. I had a sweeper before buying the cyclone. The sweeper did OK, but it would fill up pretty quickly. I ended up spending about as much time running over to dump it as I did actually sweeping. Now, I only have to empty the cyclone once or twice. So, for me anyway, the actual time to clear the yard is significantly lower, but it takes longer to setup and tear down the cyclone, thus making the total time about equal. One additional benefit I get is that my leaf pile is smaller and more readily "compostable" as the leaves have been mulched by both the mower blades and the cyclone's impeller. I am loving the x590. Looks like we will be getting a final snow storm this weekend and then it will be time to remove the snow thrower and get ready for mowing season. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 2 жыл бұрын
It does make reversing easy, but the down side is the tail swing when you turn. If you are trying to navigate a tight inside turn near some trees, for example, you can't go all the way in or the trailer will swing out and hit the trees. You just need to be aware of your surroundings. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this video! I made use of your tips to do the same transformation of my MDA to an X390 48" Accel Deep deck. I used hand tools to minimize the possibility of removing too much material and get the best fit. Due to numerous configurations at the discharge of the JD decks and changes to the MDA design/attachment plates, I did need to buy the new model plate to eliminate drilling into the deck to use the old one. Dense foam swimming noodle material is really good for filling any gaps. Like you said, there was satisfaction in making the old MDA useful.

I guess the Cyclone rake is a good product but..... I made my own leaf collection system out of my little dump trailer, by putting sides an a "breathable" top on it. Bought a piece of flexible Hose ( the most expensive part ! ) to go from my bagger deck pipe to the trailer. Wish I had taken pictures of it to show. Worked like a CHAMP !! Whole thing cost me about $150. Just trying to give a few "do it yourselfer" people an idea. I made it with a door on the back to be able to dump the debris from the yard. I couldn't always blow wet leaves obviously, but that never posed a problem for me, I worked when it was dry. The high lift blades that came stock on my Craftsman 24hp 48"cut did the job beautifully, and when I tell you I had leaves, I HAD LEAVES. I lived at the base of a Mountain in Ct. I know the Cyclone Rake is a little pricey and I'm a cheap sucker with a few good ideas !! LOL ! I hope this can help someone out. I actually tried to patent my little invention through Davidson, they tried to steal my idea so I said forget it. I gave my unit to my neighbor when I left Ct. I enjoyed using it so much I did 3 peoples yards. He STILL loves it !!

Davin Desborough I might be a bit late to the party, but I should mention to you something about those X5 series (I have a X530), if you begin to notice the machine's top speed feels far less than when it was new, or there no power in reverse, replace the plastic pedal bushings (part # M152776), and adjust pedals to be all the way up when attaching the foot pedal to the linkage. Parts are $10 from a Deere dealership, and it works wonders!

Can't help you with the pine needles but my leaves are about 6 inches deep over the whole lawn. This happens about twice to three times a fall season. Mulching alone won't do the job. But, raising the deck after the mulching and letting the blades blow the cut leaves works great. Sometimes I go over twice but it's at a fast pace.

sure you can build one but you need to buy the gas powered vacum, to really suck up all the needles stones butts, and unseeing just the hose to clean up corners and under decks, the mower deck plugs up with crap with out it as it cant blow large a mount of leaves at a time with out it, sure the deck will blow a lightly spread yard and i do mean lightly, it is the vacum unit that cost the most

@@williamajthompson9166 the deck boot from Cyclone will need to be customized in any case, they don't come specfic to any mower deck. Maybe he wanted the Cyclone not the John Deere vac. Plenty of people use Cyclone Rakes with John Deere Mowers or Tractors.

Looks to me like it's not doing a very good job of picking up everything. Since you did remove the mulching baffle earlier, I'm assuming you have mulching blades installed? If I'm not mistaken, it's recommended to use "High-Lift" blades when using this system. That certainly will make a big difference on the effectiveness of cleaning.

I like to leave my deck at its highest setting so that the grass has more surface area to absorb sunlight. I've been trying different ways to deal with leaves this year. I bought a bagger and then a lawn vacuum. The lawn vacuum picks up almost everything but it only clears a 24" path. I'm thinking about trying a sweeper. Have you tried a bagger on your tractor before? I was wondering how it compares to using the Cyclone Rake. I'm thinking about putting a blower between the deck and the bagger, similar to the Cyclone Rake setup but I'm wondering how much it will boost performance.

Yes it does suck debris off ground, but your mower blades help by lifting wet and embedded material off the ground.

Sorry for the late response. As Wayne mentioned, you mower blades help lift everything off the ground. There is absolutely a vacuum effect under the deck, but it works far better with the blades spinning. The impeller also helps to further mulch what is sucked in.

Thank you for making this video. I have a 2016 x590, and Cyclone is offering their *20th Anniversary Edition* unit for sale right now, and I am itching to pull the trigger on it~! One concern I do have is as I have 1.6 acres of lawn, can it handle a full bag of spring green grass, even if fairly dry? It would still be quite heavy? Or, would it kill the Cyclone Rake?
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 7 жыл бұрын
I don't use it for grass, but it will handle a lot of weight. I fill the bag with pine needles and leaves. Be sure to stay on level ground when it starts getting full as the weight of the cart can really fight your steering if you are crossing a slope. I have the double wheels to spread the weight a bit more and keep it from sinking into soft ground. I have never had the rake bog down. The only issue I have is that the top mesh will sometimes get blocked by leaves. I think this is something they have improved since I purchased mine long ago. Thanks for watching!

As for the tape, I needed to use it and I couldn't wait for a new hose. The funny thing? I am still using the taped up connection. I have not had to touch it in 3.5 seasons of use. Gorilla tape is good stuff. :-)

I have a x590 purchase of a snowblower vs. straight blade plow?! Have you any comments or advice between the 2 mode of moving snow!? Toronto Canada snow is sporadic and moderate not as severe as Buffalo!!
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 5 жыл бұрын
The big decider for me is that I have a 300' driveway. Trying to push snow that far isn't going to work, which would mean lots of pushing off the side of the driveway, which will take a lot longer. With the blower, 4 straight trips up and down the driveway and it's done. Does not take long at all. It also is much better than a blade would be in really wet snow. If you have a reasonable driveway and the snow is mostly light and not deep, a blade is fine. If you get deep, wet snow like we do, I would say blower all the way. There is also the fact that I will never run out of room to push snow as the blower takes it up and over any snow bank. Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck this winter!

you need to oil the hinges on that bagger!
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 7 жыл бұрын
I might consider that if the hinges actually were used frequently. As it is, they are folded and unfolded about four times a year. My fear is that oil or grease would just attract all the dust and dirt and make things even worse. In any case, thanks for watching and commenting!

Im still using the same mtd yardman thats in your video but want to upgrade to a x570 or x584. Are the x500’s much larger? Im 6’3” and its a tight fit on the mtd.
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the x500 is a larger frame and there is a good bit of room. I am 6'3" as well and have no issues with it, even in the winter when I am jumping into the cab with full snow gear on (see my other videos to check that out). It is so much nicer than the Yardman (as one would expect). Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions.

What is the sizes of the holes on the two meshes to block the leaf on top. Which size on grass works better for you.
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 7 жыл бұрын
I use the larger of the two sizes, but I can't really say how big the holes are. I currently have it stored as I have finished the cleanup for the year. I imagine the smaller size might work well for grass. I only use it for leaf cleanup. Thanks for watching!

I believe you are asking if the blades need to be engaged while using the Cyclone Rake? If so, then the answer is yes. The mower blades do the initial cutting and help lift material off the ground to be vacuumed up.

I am thinking of the tractor like yours, Why did you not leave the mulch kit and try that first? Or did you want to use the cyclone? I see you have the XL version - is that appropriate size for the John Deer XL590? Thanks
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 8 жыл бұрын
+gaewing The reason I use the vacuum is that I have a lot of pine trees and the vacuum helps suck up the pine needles. Just mulching does not touch them. Also, I get a lot of leaves a the peak of fall and it would just be too much to mulch. The x590 is a much bigger tractor than my old yardman, and it handles the XL just fine. It;s been a few years since I have looked at the cyclone rakes, if there is a bigger one, the x590 would probably handle it with ease. Thanks for watching!

Do you know if this will block the x590 sleeve hitch? Or if we can just use the sleeve hitch instead?
@DavinDesborough
@DavinDesborough 6 жыл бұрын
I have never seen the sleeve hitch mounted on a x590, so I don't know. The leaf vac is a two point connection, so I don't see how you could safely hook it up to a sleeve hitch. I think it would put too much side to side torque on the hitch. The mount is two bolts that are easy to remove seasonally. I have to take the mount off to install the plate weights in the winter.

The mulching plug on the JD Deck? I think it is part number M131094. It is what came pre-installed as I ordered the deck with the mulching kit. I removed the spring loaded chute from the deck and removed the support arm that is installed in the plastic. That allows me to exit easily from either side of the tractor.

Can't you just mulch the leaves back into the lawn? My buddy's dad is a farmer and goes on rants about people removing leaves as they fertilize the soil, etc.
@DavinDesborough

I mulch all year. In the fall, however, there are just too many leaves and pine needles. I fill that cart (as in full) about or nine or nine times a season. That is a lot of leaf matter.

I used to work at Woodland Power Products. The company that makes the cyclone rake. I worked here for over two years. The product I believe was good quality but the atmosphere in that place is hellish. I've seen so may employees get screwed but no one said anything because we all got families to take care of. Ever since they hired a child abuser this establishment went downhill fast. Morale was a constant battle.

Поскольку я перемещал это от старой косилки к новой, я должен заставить ее работать или заказывать новые детали. Это дорого, но это сэкономило много времени на протяжении многих лет.
