I've got this exact 1.2TSI engine but in the Polo. My car has a loud rattle at cold atart ups that lasts for about 3-5seconds then all sounds good. I've been told it's normal by some people saying its just the oil pump circulating and other people saying it's either my timing chain or my chain tensioner. It's got 96k on the clock. I haven't had any warning lights or stange behaviour performance and reliability. I put a video on my channel of the rattle noise.
@CycloneCyd4 жыл бұрын
Hi VS TV, "I've been told it's normal" - bollocks! pardon my French 😂That's defo chain rattle. You wouldn't expect any warning lights. EITHER the tensioner is losing adjustment overnight. That means it's letting out residual oil pressure. OR the oil filter is. The non return valve is in the oil filter. What make of filter is that? Can't see any markings. Get yourself a bottle of this amzn.to/2W9xmAI a tub of this amzn.to/2WzI8PR and one of these amzn.to/35EPJkd. Mann are the BEST filters. Use the flush and drain the oil, then replace oil and filter as per my video - don't forget to flush a half litre through like I show you. Then report back if it still does it.

Well done sir. I have 2017 Golf TSI 1.4 150HP car and it has service intervals every 2 years/30.000km which concerns me about my car’s health most of the time. It’s getting serviced at VW authorized service and they use Shell Helix Ultra AV-L 0w-20 oil. I had also Golf 1.2 TSI and it was serviced every 1year/15.000km. Should I really concern or these engines could get well with longlife service intervals? I wanted to get your opinion, cheers!
@CycloneCyd3 жыл бұрын
My opinion is that long service intervals are a sop to fleets to reduce the "cost of ownership". Once the car is out of warranty the OEs no longer care. Change oil every 5-7,000 miles or twice a year. Check out Honest John - he gives the same advice.
@purulence6663 жыл бұрын
@@CycloneCyd Yes sir, I was also thinking the same. As a standart daily driver, I will let them set my intervals to 15.000km/1year from now on. Another interesting thing is, I found out they use 5w40 oil for fixed service in authorized vw service for my car. Do you think it’s a good choice after 0w20 longlife shell ultra helix oil? Because I remember they were using 5w30 in my home country while I had 1.2 TSI golf back then.

Cheers,some good tips on this video,just changed the oil+filters on Golf Mk6 Tsi.The only thing I did different to you,was I used a Pela 6000 oil extractor,so I didnt have to get under the car.Someone compared the extraction method with the old fashioned drain method you used here,on this engine,and the difference was only an eggcup of oil more removed with drain method,so I will keep using the extractor for now.Wanted to ask if you think there is any reason why the bonnet insulation could not be removed on this car?As mine has began to sag into the engine bay,and worried it will cause engine problems.(seems to be a common problem with the Golf`s.)

Hi do you the timing chain change interval for this engine? Thanks
@CycloneCyd2 жыл бұрын
There is no change interval for a timing chain. the timing chain should last the life of the engine (car). If you follow OEM service intervals it should last 100-150,000 miles (this is what the OEMs consider to be 'life' for a car) If you change the oil every 5-7,000 miles or twice a year, then unless you are unlucky the chain should last 100s of 1000s of miles.

My understanding is that the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 TSi engines all take the same quantity of oil as specified in the video, 3.6 or 3.9 litre depending on age. If you're still unsure, refill with 3 litre, run the engine for 10 mins (a short drive). then let it stand level for 10 mins and check the dipstick and top up 1/2 litre at a time till it's half to 3/4 way to max mark. Recheck after next drive.
