Cyclops is actually using optic blast and not lasers. They are more like really strong punches that can cut things depending on how strong he blast them but they are not heat based like lasers.

Previously on X-men: Xavier fell in love with Lilandra, a powerful psychic, and future empress of the Shi’ar empire during the phoenix saga. In the final episode, Xavier was outed as a mutant on live tv using a gizmo by that guy who’s in jail , and it nearly killed him. Lilandra beamed down and transported him away to try to save him. That’s the last time anyone saw him.

There are actually 10 episodes in this season, so two more to go. ;) I would recommend some episodes from the original show, but I know where this is going and I don't want to spoil anything that might reference a previous event. But... since you don't know much about Bishop, I might at least recommend checking out the episodes "Days of Future Past 1-2," "Final Decision" and "One Man's Worth 1-2." Bishop is a time traveler, who only appeared in 10 episodes of the original series, but both Days of Future Past 1-2 and One Man's Worth 1-2 are standout episodes for him and for the series overall, quite honestly. Final Decision is the episode immediately following Days of Future Past, Part 2 and a lot of what happens in this episode ties back to that one as well. As for Cyclops in the movies... yeah, he was the least utilized character in the films. Marsden had a couple of scenes with Patrick Stewart that were cut from X2 and outside of taking a nap for half of the second movie, a lot of people were annoyed with what happens to him in the third movie. But in all honesty, writers have been doing him wrong in the comics since 1986. He has certainly had his ups and downs and lots of creators have mismanaged him over the years. It only took 59 years for someone to figure out how to properly write him for the screen.

The way the writes use the animated cyclops is way better then the movies ever did. He uses his optic blasts to move faster, move out of the way of things and stop himself from falling. All the movies ever did was just shoot stuff. Also storm is way to op xD. Bishop can absorb energy blasts and shoot them back stronger. He is from the future so he is not always part of the team. The professor got shot by a human, but he is not dead. He needed healthcare that was not available on earth so he went into space with the Shiar to get healed up but the healing process will take a long time so he is out of the picture for now, but he humans think he is dead. There's also 10 episodes not 8.

In the finale of the original x-men cartoon, Xavier was taken by the Shiar for medical treatment to save his life. Publicly the story is that Charles is dead.

I like this show more than I thought I would; we all know what the cinemas have done with remakes and recent Marvel movies (yuck!). I'm an X-men OG, read the comics, loved the old show and now it's like getting to see old friends that have been away for too long. Hoping like heck they don't mess this up. Loving your takes on the D+ show though I find myself talking to my screen and answering your questions and stuff as you go, LOL. You on X? You have twelve thousand and change subs and if they all followed you on X (men? Bad pun) you'd get free advertising for when your content drops. To me, my X-men (97 reviewers)!

Cyclops has concussive blasts not laser beams. That's why he can use it the way he does. They have done Cyclops justice

Bishop absorbs energy shoots at him and he redirects/stores this energy. He comes from the future. Scott shoots concussive force beam, not laser. He doesn't make fire/heat only concussive damage that can pierce, cut or push. This sequel is more mature, more suitable for X-Men themes & issues instead of the old X-Men TAS which was toned down for 7 years old kids because, apparently, FOX thought all cartoon needed to target children at the time. The big problem from the movies is that they think X-Men is a protagonist's story instead of a team's story which narrates the mutants' issues. In that matter they made Wolverine the heroes in the live adaptation. They butchered Scott and Ororo, just to make Logan the only heroes of the saga. Their powers weren't developped properly and more. So, that's why many people hate Singer's FoX-Men because it's barely the X-Men!

As the original episodes are only like 21 minutes long, there are some recommendations. There are some separate recommendations after episode 5 by the showrunner which are helpful (though you more need them before episode 8 because I watched two of them after 5 and forgot about it by the time 8 came around). But like I wasted a Sunday morning just catching up on the originals.

I strongly recommend watching the last episode of the original show. But regarding Xavier: he is not dead. He was seriously wounded and couldn't be healed on Earth, so his alien girlfriend took him to her home planet where technology is advanced enough to cure him. But he is considered deceased on Earth and this is what the mutants decided to tell the world since they had the assumption that he'd never be back.
