What do you actually get in the kit? Just the curved pieces, or all the studs cut for the size you order? The one I want would be 8' high shaped just like the one in this video. The two side walls would come out 8' and the back wall would be 12' I am also setting it on a raised Framed platform instead of just the one sheet of plywood you show as the base. What would that cost and what materials do you get? Thanks!

We only supply the curved components. Walls or finish is not included. You can find this info along with pricing here: www.archwaysandceilings.com/products/cyc-wall

We need to install a cyc set (45' total length, 11.5' tall with one 90 degree bend in the middle with about 1->2 inch elevated flooring). We currently use 12-foot wide seamless and muslin for our grays and green-screen respectively, but we need more than what they provide in terms of size and utility. Is there any material that does not require painting after every shoot or couple of shoots? If not, someone needs to find or create it, as the currently available alternatives are a productivity and health nightmare. Our issue is that all the materials we have come across all require frequent, ongoing repainting. The problem with that is that paint off-gassing during painting and for a few days after drying is toxic to various degrees (even the ones that we were told weren't turned out to be toxic upon deeper research). So, while it may not be problematic to have occasional exposure to low VOC or related paints, such as once every several years when you have to repaint your home (and hopefully can be out of the house until it dries, with any luck), research is showing that frequent exposure correlates highly with brain, blood and liver cancer and is generally not healthy, even in the short term, as it elevates liver enzymes and causes inflammatory response. Any recommendations or ideas? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Maybe the reason no one has commented on this in two years is because....sheez. If your afraid of your own shadow, maybe get a job in a garden or something? I’ve literally never heard of someone being so afraid to repaint a cyc. It happens ALL.THE.TIME. I get it...your life is VERY precious. Maybe find something a little less dangerous to do than film. 😂😂😂

@@dignon38 I noticed your comment. I had mentioned this in response to someone like you who commented earlier that there was ‘like zero risk of any health problems’ related to paint VOC’s. This is not true at all and numerous research papers, lawsuits, studies, doctors and others are very aware of this. It is unfortunate that many like yourself are still not aware yet. You should be made aware if you care at all about your health. A P100 is the minimum we require during application and 48 drying time before that studio can be used. We moved much of our studios to the newer wipeable surface techs. We find them to be much easier to live with at our studios and a time saver. I never minded the smell personally, but I work admin and related... so studio and related visits are maybe weekly for a couple hours and usually not at the smaller painted cyc sets. We did comply with the new recommendations... as should anyone given the research that have come out of these exposure related lawsuits. The one other issue that moving to the wipeables is that many of the younger crew guys in their 20’s-30’s still think they are invincible. The idea of risks let alone ones that accumulate over time... it was often hard to get them to wear the masks because the risk is something that they think is too far off or too little to worry about. We get sign-offs on everything and it’s great to be young... until you get older and they wish they’d not done this or that. Ah, to be young and foolish again... 5 years ago we had zero idea either. But our underwriter, HR and legal now require P100 masks plus a minimum of 48 hour segregated drying time on the two smaller studios that we are yet to update since they are used a lot less often. Here’re a couple of the easier to read articles plus one more in-depth for you that are important if you do care about your health and how well or poorly you age... Most of the big studios are very aware of the risks and seeing all of the long term illnesses among too many in our older set crews helps confirm what the research shows even with the lowest VOC and most “safe” products that in any event are much less frequently used since they are harder to apply and are more expensive and less effective... www.healthline.com/health/paint-fumes#pregnancy-risks time.com/5619823/paint-fumes-harmful-research/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK304433/

@@siobahnquinn7461 - Thanks so much for the feedback. I completely agree, as I own a few media labs and AV studios in NY, AZ and MA, and we migrated away from the weekly+ in-studio repainting of cyc's, drops and related set elements a while back. Each studio uses some combo of actively-ventilated dedicated shop areas and low-maintenance alternatives in place now. Sadly, some people like David Hall just don't know any better, as I assume (giving him the benefit of the doubt), that he doesn't have friends or associates that did this stuff for a decade or more and now have a wide range of liver, kidney, brain and autoimmune damage and disfunction. The liver spots on the hands, arms and faces of several that even don't have acute conditions are a tell-tale sign that live with-- several beginning in their late 40's to mid 50's. As soon as the research started coming out showing up to 1,700% increases in incidents of organ damage and immune disfunction due to even low levels of repeated VOC exposure, lots of major studios and other facilities stopped allowing their teams to be exposed like they used to be. It took us several months to find some good alternatives, but we did-- similar to the ones you recommended, based on how you described them. Seems simple, but (realizing it or not) some people effectively believe that something as small as a molecule, virus or whatever can't hurt them. Some others seem to think that the people selling paints and other related finishes couldn't possibly sell it if it were that dangerous-- despite the fact that they have all sorts of warnings and disclaimers on both their packaging and their MSDS sheets. There are a lot of people who are very ignorant about a lot of things these days, who think that their opinions trump reality. That's why so many have to learn so many things the hard way.

Omg, I wish I saw this earlier. Almost just finished mine and boy is it sloppy. It'll do ok but need lots of shoring up over time. I'm already thinking about trying again later with a corner and maybe just redo the whole thing with one of these kits. Gotta give this one a year or so first though. Please don't dissapear! This is a godsend service for small production people like me! "Affordable cyc wall systems" and the like are not affordable or convenient.

How stable is the 3wall on osb like that. How did you secure it? I want to build pretty much a replica of this but don’t want to have to tapcon to concrete. How stable is the framing and is there maybe any tips for ways to secure it better? Thanks!

Could masonite be used instead of drywall? Can the kit be set directly on concrete floors? What kind of paint is recommended? Please share videos or photos of clients who installed this kit in their studios.
@ArchwaysAndCeilings
@ArchwaysAndCeilings 8 жыл бұрын
+Sergio Hentschel Yes you can use masonite and yes you can set it on concrete floors. We come from a construction background so we tend to lean towards drywall when it comes to finishing but you can do it either way. 1/4" flexible drywall makes it easier if you don't work with drywall normally.
