Bobby Darin never got the serious attention he deserved...died too young...so many don't know how talented he really was. He was a performer who did bridge the gap between Big Band/Night Club (something else lost to the ages) and Rock 'n Roll. Bob D.

Bobby was terminally ill, on the verge of his strengths and physically almost unable to perform - other people with his condition would be even able to sing, not to mention the dancing and entertaining the live audience - and he still outsings and outperforms any modern artist at any time. True class, true legend.

Bobby Darin was the best, most charismatic relating to the audience. You could feel he was Mack The Knife in his performance . However , hats off to Michael Buble who I had never seen or heard for a beautiful intro and very respectful and talented rendition . He is no slouch , but Bobby Darin is the guy . Thank you to Michael Buble who was really just a name I had heard until now .

This was the song that flew him off the charts, after "Splish Splash." A very talented guy who played several instruments, piano, drums, guitar, plus acted in some great movies, esp. "Come September" where me met Sandra Dee whom he later married. What a talent! Died way too young at age 37 in the recovery room after his last heart surgery. Sad to lose such a talent so young.

Here I go. Not even a comparison, Buble is a good vocalist but Bobby was an extraordinary, even an unique, performer. Look closely when Bobby starts out, he's looking for the response from the audience. He is great at the beginning but becomes even greater when the audience responds with the clapping. He feeds on the enjoyment of the audience, true sign of an in touch great. Great loss, wondrous performer. Buble's performance rests on his musicians, Darin's performance is all his...

This is nonsense. Buble is communicating with his audience too, from the very start. Pay attention to what is there and don't let your prejudice cloud your perception.
@robertanselmo8906 Жыл бұрын
Very astute observation. I am a performer ( not my day job) and Mack the knife is my absolute best of my repertoire. It’s all about style and entertaining your audience. The song itself has a pretty basic vocal range. But it’s all about delivery… attitude… nuance… it’s a story that’s lyrically told.

Queen Elizabeth II, who'd seen every great performing artist (because of all the command performances she requested) said that Sammy Davis Jr was the greatest entertainer in the world. Stand-up, impressions, dramatic recitations, a very great singer, and probably the greatest dancer alive. Stupendous talent mostly forgotten now.

Bobby Darin greatest entertainer ever in my option and am so glad that Michael Bubble' stated that Bobby Darin was his favourite singer..... Michael does a good job of Bobby's song better than any others who have tried but still Bobby out shines them all by miles, even today long after his far too soon passing on December 20th, 1973. Bobby Darin the one of a kind multi-talented genius who always did things in his own style all the way with total brilliance.... May Bobby Darin rest in peace knowing we love, miss and remember him always. RIP

I have to say that Australia’s David Campbell does a fantastic version of both Mack The Knife, and Up A Lazy River. Take a listen and you’ll have to admit that it’s obvious he’s studied Bobby Darin’s to the hilt. David Campbell also starred in Dreamlover The Musical (which unfortunately I didn’t get to see as it didn’t get to Queensland.) I’m also a fan of Buble’s, and, Bobby Darin has been my favourite artist for decades.

To see Bobby Darin do this song in 1970 and still just nail it, WOW! No monitors, no props, no BS, just talent and style. Notice that he doesn't try to reproduce it exactly like the great recording, he took some chances and improvised. Bobby never quite got the acclaim he deserved, a true talent.
@BobAndersonMusic6 жыл бұрын
In this video, Michael said that Bobby Darin was his favorite artist of all time, hands down. He is simply trying to do a tribute to Darin and his Grammy winning song. This is a stupid question. It's like asking: who does Jail House Rock better than Elvis Presley. Obviously nobody would be the correct answer. Who sings New York NY better than Frank Sinatra...nobody. Michael is a wonderful singer and performer. He isn't trying to out do his favorite artist. Sammy Davis Jr. told me that Bobby Darin was his favorite performer. That says it all.

Considering that Darin died 2 years before Buble was even born, and that Buble enjoys a genre of music from way before his time, and saying that " This is a tribute to one of my idols" at the begining of his rendition, i'd say he didn't do half bad. Obviously not as good as the one and only Bobby Darin...but Buble already knows that as well, no need to be rude.

While of course, we all LOVE Bobby Darin, however, I also love that Michael Buble brings back a lot of the old artists and puts a bit of a spin on the song but doesn't spare any of the orchestration of the songs. I've seen him in person, and his orchestra is phenomenal. There's no one that can be Bobby Darin....this was Buble paying homage to him. He's keeping the music alive.
@leecooper42136 жыл бұрын
I like Buble a lot, esp in today's world, where no other singer has nearly such a smooth & powerful voice. HOWEVER, this particular song has NEVER been performed nearly as good as when Bobby did it.....He owned it & it showed - he had so much FUN when he sang it! And we all enjoyed watching Bobby have so much fun, while knocking out some very cool music! Sal Valentinetti (from America's Got Talent fame) sang this song (among other songs) & made it HIS own - and did a pretty dang good job of it. If you google Sal Valentinetti, you'll see that he's performed many covers - a few of BD's, but also several Sinatra songs. NOBODY will ever sound like Bobby (or Frank) - we fans remember them so clearly until it's sometimes hard to listen to others sing "their" songs without cringing. But we only have what we have today - and there are a few guys around that sound pretty good, considering they are attempting to perform such monumental songs (& tapping onto our memories & our loyalties to our favorite, deeply missed performers).
