I was 11...oh the memories, he was so beloved. My parents saw Bobby in Vegas in the late 60's, Dad said it was the best concert he'd ever attended...we had Bobby Sherman ,Bobby Ridel, I named my Son Bobby...

Bobby Darin was one of the greatest singers/songwriters/musicians ever. Sandra always loved him and Dodd is fortunate to have hm for his father. They were a fantastic family.

This is lovely, it's difficult to believe Bobby and Sandra are both gone now. I've seen a video of Dodd as an adult, he looks a lot like his father. Bobby was a terrific entertainer, and talent that we lost way too soon at age 37.It makes me so sad that so many of our favorite artists (celebs) are gone due to their over-use of alcohol, drugs and smoking. It's rather difficult to understand sometimes. Bobby had a heart problem and did not abuse drugs (although he did smoke occasionally), and died after his second surgery to replace a faulty, damaged heart valve from rheumatic fever as a child. Sad. And Sandy had so much going for her, it's difficult to see how she fell to alcohol and smoking early on, but they are both addictive and insidious drugs, and can affect anyone at any time if you happen to have an addictive personality and over-indulge, plus being a child actor can have dangers, always having to look and act a certain way, and it may have affected her adversely. I miss them both. They were a part of my impressionable young years!

I would imagine that the parental incest suffered by Sandra may have played a part in the breakdown of her life.

IMO, Sandra became an addict due to the SA that she suffered, as a small child, with the full knowledge of her mother, at the hands of her perv stepfather.

My uncle Demetrios mavromatis was working as a waiter that evening. He a Greek immigrant had moved up from busboy to waiter around this time. He met my father a waiter immigrant from Denmark there and introduced him to my mother. Every new years eve they would work at the ambassadors coconut grove and gather the party favors and bring them to us( his 5 kids too) the Joy in my heart was never forgotten. As a child there were many occasions where we had the opportunity to go to employee holiday parties. I remember feeling as if I entered another world or country. I found a postcard of the coconut grove at a yard sale and treasure it. By the 1970 s with the celebrities going to Beverly Wilshire, Hilton century plaza etc....( My dad and uncle also worked at these places up until 2002) the ambassador lost it's glamour. The brown derby across the street no longer had customers. Donald Trump bought the ambassador stating he was going to bring back it's glamour but failed to understand that by then the area was too dangerous for the wealthy and famous to want to even be in that part of town. Trump had a giant garage sale. Many of those items we already had in our home. My father and uncles would bring home silver NOT silver plated utensils and pitchers. My uncle was there when Robert Kennedy was killed but working another party. I cried bucketful of tears when the ambassador closed. They used it to rent to film and TV productions and owned by the Los Angeles school district. I worked there as a substitute teacher. Thankfully they kept some of the famous landmarks. The coffee shop is now the teachers lounge and outside the library is a small museum in glass. They built a food garden that the students and teachers tended but after a few years that stopped. They tried at this time to bring back neighboring Perrinos with a big spectacular reopening. By the next day there weren't any customers and it closed for good within a few weeks. By uncle Demetrios would get $100 in the 50s to move nat King Cole's piano in the coconut Grove. 100$ in the 50s paid your rent for 2 months. Nat King Cole told my uncle that while he could perform there black people couldn't come to see him perform. My uncle told EVERYONE he met including us children about this injustice. Decades later at the century plaza the black employees complained to my uncle and I about the I'll treatment towards them by Natalie Cole ( nats daughter and lookalike) Her condescending behavior towards fellow black people would've made nat King Cole very disappointed

Mr Bobby Darin, the perfectionist all the way….. A genuine human being from humble beginnings who shared his God gifted talents with the world, we his adoring fans love him for being himself….. Bobby is the only entertainer who can touch the inner depths of your soul and make you cry…… Bobby has this warm emotional rich soulful and heart felt depth to his voice that I have not heard from any other person in the music business before him or since for that matter…. His diction and clarity of words always gave Bobby the edge on and set him way apart from others in the music business….. Bobby is the greatest ever in my book and no one, no one comes anywhere near close nor can they…. There will only ever be one Bobby Darin for he is unique and in a class all on his own. thank goodness for that…. A giant of a man who is still missed, loved and remembered today even after over forty one years…… Rest In Peace Bobby my friend I miss and loved you dearly.

Women have always worked. In the home or at their outside careers. She seems so natural with herself and their son. Thank you so much for this. His live performance at the Sands was short but sweet. Love his rendition of "I have dreamed" He was my Dad's favorite....and became mine as I grew up. Love Tony Bennet too. If I ruled the world 1964 is a great performance. God bless us all.

I have always loved this interview, but I wish the guy would have let Sandra talk more and I really wish we could have heard Dodd talk a lot more. I think he did say "I stay drunk" so Sandra was afraid of what he might say next. I was 5 when the interview took place and I have always loved Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee.

Interesting insight there from Sandra Dee. When the guy asks her what Bobby dislikes, she immediately says "Dishonesty." As everyone is no doubt aware, a year or so after this recording when he found out his mother wasn't really his mother he completely spiraled out of control.

I hope Sandra did not have to pawn those beautiful jewels she wore to the club after he told her he wanted a divorce the next year. I hope her granddaughters have them now. One of her granddaughters looks just like their grandmom. Sandra, was cute as a button. She had a rough life after Bobby, never remarried, stayed loyal and raised their son. So sad. She was young too when she died, not even in her late 60's. Dodd looks like both of them, more of his dad. Great Man, Dodd turned out to be and a family man too.

What did little Dodd say? Surely something shocking for the 60's lol. Funny to see this as they got a divorce the same year (officially early the next). Things are not always as good as they seem! I guess any modern feminist would react to the reporter's question whether she would cope filming being both a female and a mother!
