Luckily, the dropped valve did not do as much damage as it could have. Got the heads apart and assessed them and what needs to be done and also got them welded back up and ready to hit the machine shop. Dropping them off at Coats Racing Engines tomorrow for some much needed love. Looks like it is gonna need two valve seats, a guide, 8 intake valves and heads resurfaced. Hope to have this hoop-tie back together in a few weeks!

You guys definitely get it done. On a budget no less. It could have been a flawed valve. Or it could be fatigue. They're only good for so long when you are running extreme. I wouldn't run even decent stainless valves in a high rev big boost motor more than two seasons on a shoestring budget. This channel is the best, I love the level of competition. Man oh man you make competitive runs most of the year. Fast as hell and the chassis is dialed. Other people have to get involved. Racing is expensive but it can be done at top level wisely. Turbo John and his crew are as impressive as it gets for a team. You have guys spending 10 times as much that can't be consistently fast. Or fast at all.

With the intake valve gone the next intake stroke of the next cylinder sucks the shrapnel into the intake then it's free to go down any cylinder until it's shut down.

I’ll put money on. The seat fell out. Valve hung up. Piston took out the valve. I bet that’s what happened. Kinda what it looks like. Or the valve coulda said. No more slappin up and down I’m done and just snapped off.

I have a set of aluminum hemi heads I needed to get checked out, took them to company X to get them checked out. Company X said they were junk and I'm thinking aluminum heads can be repaired. These were the first set of aluminum hemi heads from company X I guess they thought I was going to leave them with them. N0! HELL NO!. I got another company to look at them and found their wasn't anything wrong with them. I'm sitting here looking at your video and thinking to myself if anything was wrong with them I can fixed them myself depending on the damage. Thanks!

Thanks. I run Clark solid copper gaskets. Only water is in the heads to prevent hot spots and cracks. This car is usually pushed to the starting line and after a pass.

I don’t see any reason why it would’ve broke the valve other than just bad metal. You know what I’m sayin, when the metal came outa the furnace it had a flaw. I’ve seen several different things happen to valves and H-beam rods because of a casting or machining flaw. Love how you all do your own work 💯

I don’t think the valve was the cause of the problem. From past experiences I would would say the insert dropped giving the valve no choice too either bend or snap. Just a view from an ageing mechanic that spent a bit of time engine rebuilding, wouldn’t hurt to get your head repairer to give the other inserts a tap test to see if any others are loose. May have been a bit hotter in that cylinder? Injector ok? Thanks for the great vids have been a bit time poor to be able to watch them of late, keep up the great work.

It's insane how parts go flying in the engines when something brakes. It had to have gotten pushed back up the port then sucked down. Imagine when they brake at 7000rpm. That piston is going up and down 116 times per second..........That's crazy

Fuck if you had a Hemi, I'd send you a set of one of our old heads for free. Straight honesty. We have two older sets from BAE that we upgraded from that we're never going to use again and I don't have the energy to play fuckery with turbobullet and shit so they're sitting in sealed bags in our parts room at our shop.

Hey big guy sorry to be a bother with questions but would it be a good thing to maybe bite this situation in the butt while u have it apart a d put some manley hd valves on intake side and a good set of titanium valves for exhaust side (best for heat and boost) and maybe a good set of nextek springs and some stud girdles? I dont remember if you said you had a nasty cam and if it was a roller or solid or hydraulic but figured maybe throw some good valves and springs in it repair the head valve guides and valve seats put it all together and it should be rock solid and reliable for pass after pass after pass of 40+lbs from that big 102? Just a question is all please dont take offence I am trying to learn still and we had a BIG roller with a 4-7 swap in my nova and a decent set of girdles and we only had to adjust valves about every 4 passes and most of the time only a few actually had to be adjusted it i know it's a diffrent beast then the ls based engines but just a thought while you had it out bto have a good day
@TurboJohnRacing
@TurboJohnRacing 5 жыл бұрын
These are pac 1226 springs, it’s a solid roller with a little over .700 lift so it’s not too radical. Luckily, I don’t have to adjust valves often on mine. Now Randy’s is s different story!

How in the Hell does a chunk of valve end up in another cylinder???
@johngrabowski2957
@johngrabowski2957 5 жыл бұрын
Valve breaks on the intake stroke of the bad cylinder, immediately followed by, what should be the compression stroke. With no valve (it broke) it just blows the air back up the intake tract taking the debris with it. That air, and debris is available for whatever cylinder is on its intake stroke to ingest. It’s actually a bit more complicated than that, but that’s the basic idea. Hope that helps.

I’ve seen crazier. Like piston and ring stuck in the throttle blade threw a LS3 intake. At full throttle. You kill one cylinder. You usually kill at least 1 or two more from the debris.
