Thanks! Over the years I've gotten better lights, better camera, and better at editing. Wish I could go back and improve these earlier videos, but they serve their purpose and are a snapshot in time. Glad they are helpful to you. Andy at Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions has also done a GS1000 top end rebuild that may be helpful to you, if you haven't already become aware of his channel.

May i ask what reference you were using for all the specs, tightening sequins etc? I just started a gs750 build and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Weŕe there any bolts holding the cylinder head in place or was it only a matter of prying it loose? Thanks for the videos!
@UrbanMonkTV

There are two bolts on each end of the head. The rest are nuts on studs. I think I've read that the cylinder bank on newer (80s) have a bolt holding it on, but my 78 didn't. Just carefully pry off once head is removed. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your reply! I got it! Iḿ following your videos to do a first time project on a 1977 gs550. Your videos have made it an enjoyable project and not a headache. Replacing piston rings now. Thanks again!

Hey urben munk could i change my cylinder and headgasket with the engine on the farme??
@UrbanMonkTV
@UrbanMonkTV 6 жыл бұрын
Johann Rasmussen Yes, you could. I pulled the engine out of the frame because I was painting the engine. There is no need to remove the engine if you only want to rebuild the top end. Enjoy your project!

Took me a while to get time to sit down with my service manual. Manual says standard is 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) and service limit is 0.2 mm (0.008 in). Manual calls it "Cylinder Head Distortion." Hope that helps.

So I just got two gs model bikes on a trade 1 750G and a 550L I’ve been watching your videos although I cleaned the carbs and got it running but roughly. So I bought a Haynes Manual and downloaded a manual on line and boy so the online manual say I need the wrong spark plug one was dead so I ordered 1 good thing it was the wrong one. So I refer to the Haynes Manual and the one that’s in there is different I have a nkg b9es and the manual says b8es. The question is what is going on with this bike. I had noticed your carburetor was totally different then the one on my bike. Is the Haynes manual going to be reliable with bikes this old where should I get a good service manual

The one is a 650g btw not a 750

Usually the manuals cover multiple model years and configurations. If your bike is newer than mine it'll have constant velocity (CV) carbs. I believe B8ES is correct. Did you download manual from Bike Cluff website? That's a pretty good resource as is thegsresources.com. Hope this helps!
