Hi Mr. Urban Monk! I'm in the process of purchasing a real beautiful 1981 GS550T with less than 11,000km. The bike is super clean, however the person tells me that it has a hole in the #3 piston due to a stuck throttle and high rev's leading to overheating. The spark plug for that cylinder is melted so lots of heat there for sure. I'm purchasing the bike for basically what he'd get for scrap. Sounds like a similar situation to what happened to you. Was there any other unexpected damage once you for into the engine i.e. valves etc.?

Thanks for watching! No, no other damage in my bike. Rebuild was fun and now I have a beautiful cafe racer. These are great bikes. Be sure to watch my videos to see where to get new rings and piston. I went with used piston and it still works great.

@@UrbanMonkTV I'm debating whether to buy one used replacement piston or four used or new ones. Being cheap I'm leaning toward a one used. Will see once I open it up. Intend to document it on my utube channel.
