It is shame it lasted ONE season. (1980 does not exist in my mind. Even as a kid who loved scifi, it turned me off.) I wish someone can do to the original BSG what they did to Star Trek TOS a number of years ago. Go over all the special effects in the show and upgrade them with present day effects. Also removing recycled space scenes and creating new ones. But, keeping the story and actors untouched. That would be awesomely cool.

there was a couple of reasons why it got cancelled...and this is what I read. George Lucas was pitching his idea for star wars before 20 century fox gave the go ahead..they all turn him down, United artist, paramount Disney who would eventually own it,MGM and universal, but due to the huge success of star wars ,every studio wanted their star wars, Disney the black hole..but when universal launch Battlestar Galactica ,fox took them to court it was nicknamed ironically the star wars trials..as it was to similar to star wars universal lawyers argued that it wasn't and star wars is similar to other films, i think if i remember they still made the franchise but only for tv and not the big screen until it was resolved, eventually it won on fox favour, but by that time universal was gonna cancel it due to poor ratings that's why battle star Galactica 1980 ended just in time for the empire strikes back..which is kind off ironic if you think about it.

Always wondered why in most SciFi movies and series they place the bridge of the large ships in such a vulnerable location when there are cameras and screens and in space direct visual is of very limited use anyway and you'd mostly rely on various sensors. Even on WW2 battleships the actual command center is buried deep within the heavily armored citadel and the exposed bridge is mostly used when not in combat so why would a spaceship from future have an unprotected bridge with huge windows sticking out just begging to be blown to pieces?.

Well this old dreamer has seen a lot of the galaxy and I've heard as many stories about the "IM" controversy as I have about people who don't like cylon cooking. My Colonial Viper had the IM switch but other models had a different label. In the academy we were told that eventually the Viper would have an independent weapons selector and the control stick was to be site of a toggle switch or button. My honey had an inverse mode, or reverse thrust which came in handy on a hot landing or trying to shake off cylons. But I don't think the IM and the reverse thrust were really thought through and again, other models didn't have the IM label but still retained reverse thrust. Remember too that Tylium was hard to find and the war started before a modern stock of vipers could be built up - I think we all had prototypes of one sort in the colonial wars.

And that the war was concluded when the Earth people developed satellites that emitted microwave frequencies that jammed up the Cylons. Then, the few dozen thousand Colonials left just integrated into population of Earth humans. I mean, that is just basic knowledge about the most recent events in what is often called "Pan Terrestrial History". But, what about the newer models of humanoid Cylons? It is known they were working side by side with the Colonial Warrior forces to "clean up" the remaining Cylons of the old order. But, do you think any of them migrated down to Earth and blended in with the rest of the Colonial humans? In your opinion, of course. I don't expect you to be certain one way or another.

How the times goes by, must be 44 yrs now when i watch this in cinema. Yes, following the big success of Star Wars everybody wants to make money with this SciFi, like Star Trek the Movie, Disneys the Black hole and this... They glued three episodes from TV together and brings that in theatres, 1. Battlestar Galactice and 2. Attack of the Cylons, in Sensorround sound system. The TV show wasnt here in german TV that time. my friend and i were so impressed about (14 yrs old) and ordered the Soundtrack (record)... Today i am shocked how cheap it looks, i mean the stages, clothes, the cheap TV acting...only the SFX are great, but for to save money they used the space fights and explosions ever and ever again, repeat for repeat. And i never understand why the helmets have so many lamps INSIDE. My wife loves Star Wars and all that stuff but when BG was in TV last year here we tried to watch but...naa, impossible. One episode and we were off.

They just could not make up their minds which Battlestar Squadron Sheba was assigned to in this episode. At one point, the helmet she's wearing is from the Pegasus, and a few microns later, she's wearing a Galactica helmet.

Good episode. Original Battlestar was the best.

Me and my Trekkie friend tried watching this when it debuted but I don’t think either one of us ever made it thru an entire episode. Just smacked so much of Star Wars which we generally despised because of its comic book space opera image.

Noticed the fighter design was also used in the last Battlestar Galactica series, with the druids looked like humans. The new fighters were destroyed so they used the old viper design in the new movie series.
