This song made the "Filthy 15", a list of the supposed worst of the worst songs that were corrupting children in the mid 1980s. The list was created by a group called the PMRC who wielded a lot of influence in Congress because Al Gore's wife, Tipper, was it's founder and leader. In response to the attacks from the PMRC and widely publicized Congressional hearings the RIAA agreed to put "Parental Advisory" stickers on certain albums. The albums with those stickers became "forbidden fruit" and the kids wanted to hear them more than ever.

Many girls back then dressed like her and the colorful clothes, quirky clothes and hairstyles. Check out more of her songs/videos. Her singing style is like Dale Fozzio from Missing Persons and Gwen Stefani (No Doubt). With the in and out high pitch sound. Also the colored, punky hair and clothing style. Brad and Lex. The song is about "masturbation" without saying the word "masturbation". It was included on the Parents Music Resource Center's "Filthy Fifteen" list, due to its sexual lyrics; this led to the creation of the Parental Advisory sticker. Lauper told The Howard Stern Show she recorded the vocals while she was nude. She has stated that finding a copy of the gay men's magazine Blueboy lying around in the recording studio provided the impetus for writing "She Bop". "She bops, he bops, and we bop. I bop, and you bop, and they bop" in other words, everyone plays with themselves, or at least most people, even if they claim they don't.

It's a song about sexual gratification from a woman's point of view, made into a poppy song... When I was a kid, the sign that said "Uncle Siggy's Master Bingo" went over my head 😂 (Sigmund Freud was a psychoanalyst who theorized about size...) and the housewives embodied the conservative knobheads who spread misinformation about 'hairy palms' and 'going blind' from sexual gratification... Cyndi Lauper was brilliant making this song & video... and no one objected to it(!) the way they did Olivia Newton John's 'Physical' 😂

Suddenly “She Bop” was on the Parents’ Music Resource Center’s “Filthy Fifteen” list of songs that they said should be banned, like “Let me put my Love into you” by AC/DC. Oh, c’est la vie. I had no idea what that song was about back in the day, but I'm all for it. Most 80's bands back then trained me to ignore lyrics as being nonsensical or pointless, and just jam out to the sound. Especially Duran Duran. Like, I dearly love "The Reflex" to this day, but have no idea what Simon was going on about, and honestly I don't ever want to know.
